View Full Version : Winky-Tito On For May
borikua 01-19-2005, 11:07 PM January 19, 2005 - Even though the respective camps don't want to officially confirm it yet, sources directly involved with the situation have informed **********.com that Felix Trinidad Vs. Winky Wright, for all extensive purposes is already a done deal. The fight is expected to take place at Madison Square Garden on HBO PPV May 14 . Several weeks ago we reported that Klitschko-Rahman was pencilled in for May 14. Hopefully Klitschko-Rahman is now taking place May 21 on HBO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING with the Trinidad-Wright replay as the televised undercard, and not on HBO PPV in April or June . Wright's attorney Jim Wilkes had "no comment" when we spoke with him moments ago. Felix Trinidad Sr. said that " Winky will be the fight, but it's not going to be official until Don King announces it." Contracts will be signed shortly after Wright takes care of a couple of issues with his manager and friend James Prince. The official announcement is expected early next week. BT will continue to keep you updated, until then stay tuned to our front page for all the latest information in boxing.
QueenCity 01-19-2005, 11:10 PM It would be great if that thing does end up being on regular HBO.
Chups 01-19-2005, 11:11 PM I wonder what the final purse for each fighter is now.
FrankJack 01-19-2005, 11:14 PM I hope this goes down, it'll be an ill fight. I'm a Tito fan, but I see Winky winning this one.
reebox8225 01-19-2005, 11:30 PM I'm glad this is going to happen, I think it will be a great fight.
jswa17 01-20-2005, 01:19 AM Nice picture, Borikua!
that body shot must've heart :D
NiGe2011 01-20-2005, 02:43 AM Who do you guys like in this soon to be fight? I think that Winky will give Tito a REALLY tough night but am not positive that he will be able to pull out the victory. I will say this, he better not try any of that dropping the gloves stuff against Trinidad, just ask Ricardo Mayorga!

THE BACHELOR PARTY IS BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tri4ben2 01-20-2005, 07:47 AM Horray!
It looks like Wright decided that it is best to be the short money on a big fight then the big money in a small fight.
Also, I am glad that Klitschko-Rahman is not PPV. I didn't want to have to choose.
you have to think of ordering a PPV btwn tito or klit? whowa.
Kimmy 01-20-2005, 12:04 PM I think maybe Wright was just haggling for more money, i think the fight was always gonna happen. It gonna be a great clash of styles and i think come fight time it could go either way. I think Tito`s inactivity in a long hard fight might be the difference here. We`ll wait and see!
Dark Destroyer 01-20-2005, 12:05 PM Amazing fight with two amazing fighters, i cannot wait at all. I don't think there are many fighters that are as explosive and exciting as Tito.
BrooklynBomber 01-20-2005, 12:08 PM I am happy this fight gonna happen. Although does not Vitaly fights Rahman on a same day
PRboxingfan 01-20-2005, 12:37 PM I am happy this fight gonna happen. Although does not Vitaly fights Rahman on a same day
They are both on HBO and I doubt that the suits will put both these fights on the same card. Look for Vitali-Rahman to move to another date. This fight shouldn't be on PPV, either. I won't pay to see Vitali fight.
adeelr 01-20-2005, 01:58 PM Trinidad v. wright should be a great one, if tito knocks this guy out he will be able to prove that he has still got it, however wright is a difficult fighter to fight. He has a decent amout of agility, he is hard to hit, he has good speed and a possibly a better chin than trinidad. Trinidad will have to set the pace of the fight and try to go for the knockout after 7 or 8 rounds are over if he is able to take control.
In just about every fight titos opponent has had a better chin than him. i actually think his chin at 160 was better than at 147 or 154. i think that if winky works on his defense (stays away from that turtlelike defense) he will have a better chance but i dont see him winning i say tito late ko or tko.
tracylee 01-20-2005, 02:08 PM It would be great if that thing does end up being on regular HBO.
Hell, HBO, Showtime, ****e, FSN, ESPN..I dont care anymore...as long as it actually happens! I'm tired of all these fighters changing their minds all the time..just get in the ring and fight.
I dont think that Winky can win this one; I know he has good defense and long forarms that make body shots damn hard to land, but if anybody can find a way around (or underneath) that it's Tito..cant wait to see this fight!!!!!! :D
BiggestBoxingFanEver 01-20-2005, 02:35 PM I prepict tito over winky by KO. Winky's "thing" that he has on other superwelters is reach. Tito has a longer reach plus power.
Reach + Power = Nighty-night
What's up with Tito fighting all these Super Welters? Well, I already know the answer to my own question. Take some fights that aren't as risky as true middleweights for about the same money.
Come on, I want to see tito vs taylor. Tito vs Strum. Tito vs Hopkins 2. Hopkin vs Taylor. Eastman vs tito. Vargas vs Taylor. Forrest vs anyone. Mayorga vs anyone.
Like tracy said, real fights that actual happen!
trinidadpr87 01-20-2005, 03:10 PM I think if tito beats winky(which i think he will)than he should fight sturm and than see if he could handle hopkins this time.
m00ks 01-20-2005, 03:17 PM I think Sturm can get a UD against Tito if he moves around. He's got a killer jab and long arms. If he trades he'll get KTFO.
tracylee 01-20-2005, 03:42 PM I prepict tito over winky by KO. Winky's "thing" that he has on other superwelters is reach. Tito has a longer reach plus power.

Well finally some action starting Friday! Showtime is doing some good (if not better) at filling the void left from FNF (but there is gonna be some trouble with the scheduling cause FNF is coming back)..and then of course there's Sat's fights to look forward to.
I too want to see Forrest return to the ring! I remember he was supposed to make a 'come back' a few mo's ago, but got injured during training (I THINK) so maybe sometime soon he'll show up somewhere; it would be very cool! ;)
chingon28 01-20-2005, 03:48 PM winky has a real good defense and is pretty fast. trinidad always has trouble with fast boxers. i would take winky in this one.

cmason 01-21-2005, 07:22 AM i'm a fan of winky but at 160 tito is too strong. i think winky will get stopped. i think the first time tito hits him the realization will set in that he should have stayed at 154.
hmm im not so sure, think winky has been one of the most underated boxers over the past 5 years. Good match up I see winky by points.
tri4ben2 01-21-2005, 08:24 AM That is what they said when Winky fought Vargas about 5 years ago.
Winky was always in the fight and took Vargas's power very well.
I expect the same in the Winky - Trinidad fight.
mark my words mates, winky will catch zz's, not the win.
MikeHunt 01-21-2005, 02:07 PM Winky beat Vargas that night he just got screwed.......But I like Tito in this matchup.
Not Toto you fool I SAID TITO!
Kimmy 01-21-2005, 09:03 PM Winky signs to face Tito!
By Karl Freitag
*********.com can confirm that WBC/WBA super welterweight champion Winky Wright has signed to step to middleweight to face superstar Felix Trinidad. No other details are confirmed, but reports out of Puerto Rico have the bout taking place on May 14 in New York City.
