Why are so many fights today, hold in Vegas, or in that area? Frankly, I think Vegas sucks, and more fights should happen in New York, cause the crowds are 100% better their.

View Full Version : Do you think Vegas is the best place to hold fights? IwatchBoxing 02-16-2006, 01:07 PM Why are so many fights today, hold in Vegas, or in that area? They have a tons of attractions over there, not just the events, gambling and all other stuff. Holding an event in Vegas will generate more money than any other place in the US. And plus, who wants to watch a fight in NY during the winter? Crowd doesn't have anything to do with it. People from across the country will travel to Vegas to support their fighter. I haven't seen a pro fight there since Ivan Robinson-Demetrius Ceballos.....& that's a crime on my part. RAESAAD 02-16-2006, 01:42 PM This is true. Bombardier 02-16-2006, 01:42 PM I wish they had more fights at the Venetian. Last big one I remember is Hopkins-Echols II. Looks like a cool place. They have a canal on the second floor, for god's sake. jabsRstiff 02-16-2006, 01:43 PM Excuse my ignorance but where is the Blue Horizon? North Broad Street...in Phila. Pa. RAESAAD 02-16-2006, 01:45 PM North Broad Street...in Phila. Pa. Thank you kindly Jabs. Bombardier 02-16-2006, 01:48 PM Question for you (slightly) older guys: why did they stop holding outdoor fights at Caesar's Palace? When I see those old Hagler fights, or all the other classics that took place there, it almost gives me chills. With the way the lighting hits the ring and the stands it's pure magic. I thought I heard that Wynn was planning to tear down Caesar's soon, so I guess there's no chance of them bringing that back. But what made them stop in the first place? jreng1 02-16-2006, 02:09 PM I agree with IWatchBoxing. They need to have big fights at Madison Square Garden again....if they're "huge" fights than they are automatically placed in Vegas all the time. Save for if it is supposed to a hometown fight like RJJ/Tarver 3. jabsRstiff 02-16-2006, 02:21 PM I could be wrong.... But don't the Vegas casinos host those bigger fights without charging the promoters ? If that's the case, & I'm a promoter....that's a monster incentive. srl#1fan 02-17-2006, 02:50 AM Go see a good fight at the Blue Horizon and u won't want to go anywhere elseI've heard alot of great things about the joint but I still don't get it. I've been to 2 major boxing events in Vegas and I just don't know how it would compare to that atmosphere, can ya please elaborate on what the Blue Horizon is any more different than the big-time fights in Vegas? jabsRstiff 02-17-2006, 08:36 AM I've heard alot of great things about the joint but I still don't get it. Well, as you said...you've went to major boxing events. The Blue doesn't have major events, just super-solid fight cards......in a tiny (not a bad seat anywhere- balcony is the best), decayed building, that reaks of boxing history & old-school charm. The fans are generally knowledgable, friendly, & incredibly enthusiastic. Also......if a "homeboy" gets a gift decision, the fans will boo the hell out of it, they won't nutlick the local. blockhead 02-18-2006, 11:50 AM vegas has a shady image that rubs off on boxing, i think that having so many fights in vegas is detrimental to the image of the sport. josenoway 02-18-2006, 12:02 PM honestly, i think vegas is a great place for boxing. your average boxing fan is male, into sports, into girls, into wagering, into food. vegas gives all of that, sportsbook, strip clubs, nightclubs, gaming, buffets, etc. you can come for the fight, stay for the entertainment. stack some $$$ on your fighter, and when he proves you right, you hit the tables, try to double it, then go blow it all on booze and women. Chups 02-18-2006, 01:47 PM VEgas is great! Specially for the west coast fans...LOL :D |
