View Full Version : Best rise from canvas win.
bonafuwa 01-20-2005, 01:53 AM Hey guys, what fighter do you think rose from the most savage knockdown to win a fight? I don't mean some flash knockdown like most of Trinidad's, but a knockdown that would have put most fighters to sleep?
My picks: Larry Holmes vs Earnie Shavers - man that right was brutal. Holmes got up, amazingly, and went on to win a decision.
Julio Diaz vs Julian Letterlough - Diaz was clocked with such a huge left hook, his head slammed against the canvas. How he was able to get up I don't know, let alone win the decision.
Fire away boxing experts.
Sister Sledge 01-20-2005, 01:59 AM Samon Sorjataurong's come from behind KO of Humberto Gonzalez was a great one.
bonafuwa 01-20-2005, 02:03 AM Samon Sorjataurong's come from behind KO of Humberto Gonzalez was a great one.
Preach on sister! Ain't never heard of those fighters before but I agree :) You seem to know your ****.
Atman 01-20-2005, 02:07 AM Echols vs. Brewer. Echols survives being damn near out on his feet for half a round and knocked down twice to stop Brewer the very next round.
Solo322 01-20-2005, 03:05 AM too bad he didn't win, but vargas gave us a hell of a fight when he got up after the two knockdowns in the first against tito.
{BrownBomber} 01-20-2005, 03:18 AM Samon Sorjataurong's come from behind KO of Humberto Gonzalez was a great one.
how about carbajal-gonzales member that one.
{BrownBomber} 01-20-2005, 03:19 AM The best one I remember has got to be Moorer-Cooper.Both men down great action fight.
One of the best rise from the canvas fight I have seen, where both fighters where knocked down for several times and got to slug on is:
Michael Moorer vs Bert Cooper
The best one I remember has got to be Moorer-Cooper.Both men down great action fight.
Darn, you said it first! ;) :D
At least we agree! ;) :D
jabsRstiff 01-20-2005, 07:30 AM Holmes-Shavers....
Holmes took the biggest punch form the biggest puncher, in the 7th rd.... & went down like he was shot.
Yet, he took over gain in the next round...
Holmes also looked like he was a goner when Renaldo Snipes leveled him in the 7th rd, also. Yet, just like in the Shavers fight....Holmes roared back to score an 11th rd. TKO.
tri4ben2 01-20-2005, 07:54 AM I am not as old as some of you, and I realize that Danny Williams did not go down, but in the first round, Willimas took some pretty big shots from Tyson, one of the biggest hitters of all time and he came back to win.
Boxerdog 01-20-2005, 07:58 AM Foreman vs. Lyle
Italian250 01-20-2005, 08:09 AM Gerald Mcclellan knocked Nigel Benn not only down, but through the ropes and out of the ring. Benn rises at 9 and comes back to ko Mcclellan and puts him out of boxing forever...
Verbl_Kint 01-20-2005, 08:10 AM I would have to say Trinidad vs Vargas.
jabsRstiff 01-20-2005, 08:27 AM Gerald Mcclellan knocked Nigel Benn not only down, but through the ropes and out of the ring. Benn rises at 9 and comes back to ko Mcclellan and puts him out of boxing forever...
Good one !
.....& don't forget, Benn got knocked down again in the 8th.
LuKahnLi 01-20-2005, 09:03 AM Benn looked out on his feet throughout the entire fight.
Gatti vs. Rodriguez is a good one.
LuKahnLi 01-20-2005, 09:04 AM Some others are.....
Wladimir Klitchko vs. Davaryl Williamson
Markus Beyer vs. Danny Green
LuKahnLi 01-20-2005, 09:05 AM I would have to say Trinidad vs Vargas.
Whatchoo talkin bout?
Tito had already floored Vargas twice before Vargas floored him.
jabsRstiff 01-20-2005, 09:11 AM The ultimate = Moore vs. Durelle
Moore was down FOUR times, before coming back to stop Durelle.
pinkpanther 01-20-2005, 10:20 AM Has to be Benn V G-Man
tonytucker 01-20-2005, 10:34 AM What about Alex Stewart when he fought "can't remember his name".They both kept knocking down each other and when it finally looked like Stewart was finnished, he gets up and knocks that other guy out.WTF and WTF-that was an insane fight!. Later brother brolog.
jabsRstiff 01-20-2005, 10:36 AM What about Alex Stewart when he fought "can't remember his name".They both kept knocking down each other and when it finally looked like Stewart was finnished, he gets up and knocks that other guy out.WTF and WTF-that was an insane fight!. Later brother brolog.
Ezra Sellers ?
Toller 01-20-2005, 10:57 AM Thompson KO'ing Rothmann last year. Amazing fight and a great comeback by Thompson.
BrooklynBomber 01-20-2005, 12:01 PM Will I be the only one to say Tito vs mayorga. Also Wlad vs Brewster :(
BrooklynBomber 01-20-2005, 12:03 PM The ultimate = Moore vs. Durelle
Moore was down FOUR times, before coming back to stop Durelle.
Holy ****. Never saw that one.
!!Captain 01-20-2005, 12:42 PM Mesi vs. Jirov
Although Mesi didn't win by the way of KO, he still survived that fight. I don't think he should have been awarded a decision though, he nearly died in there.
Hey guys, what fighter do you think rose from the most savage knockdown to win a fight? I don't mean some flash knockdown like most of Trinidad's, but a knockdown that would have put most fighters to sleep?
My picks: Larry Holmes vs Earnie Shavers - man that right was brutal. Holmes got up, amazingly, and went on to win a decision.

Do you mean Julio Gonzalez vs. LEtterlough-if so that guy got kayoed like three times in that fight and he kept getting up at the very last second...amazing fight-I make the mistake all the time.
Bowe v. Holy 3, Bowe was floored and basically out on his feet, in the next round Holyfiled although completely spent was on the attack about to finish Bowe when he was hit coming forward...you have to slow mo it to see the actual devistation of the shot but it was huge...the third fight often gets left out of the trilogy talk and it was easily the most brutal fight of the three!
Mr. Ryan 01-20-2005, 01:42 PM Arturo Gatti getting off the canvas to KO Wilson Rodriguez in Madison Square Garden was something. Gatti was down early, both eyes swollen shut, and lands a monstrous left hook that removed Rodriguez from consciousness. Brilliant.
Mr. Ryan 01-20-2005, 01:45 PM Holy ****. Never saw that one.
The Mongoose was down 3 times in the first round, once again later in the fight, and rises to KO Yvonne Durrelle and keep his Light Heavyweight title.
adeelr 01-20-2005, 01:54 PM what Ali vs. Henry Cooper the punch that knocked ali down was brutal if it would have any body else it would have been imposible to come back and knock the guy out.
jabsRstiff 01-20-2005, 02:01 PM what Ali vs. Henry Cooper the punch that knocked ali down was brutal if it would have any body else it would have been imposible to come back and knock the guy out.
....or if the guy's trainer cuts his glove open in between the rounds.
dansweeney 01-20-2005, 03:45 PM foreman getting up to kayo lyle was unreal, foreman fell like a ton of bricks.......... twice
Foreman vs. Lyle
With out doubt thats one off my favourit fights, big geoge was knocked down hard twice but came back and knocked the **** out Lyle.
I was just about to mention it.
SweetScience 01-20-2005, 03:58 PM Rosario vs. Ramirez II
Ramirez takes a beating and comes back.
tnf1400 01-20-2005, 04:57 PM buster douglas's win over mike tyson
jack_the_rippuh 01-20-2005, 05:15 PM Byrd getting up to beat McCline
tonytucker 01-20-2005, 06:54 PM Ezra Sellers ?Yes, I think that was the guy.Later brother brolog.
tonytucker 01-20-2005, 06:57 PM Darrel Wilson when he looked completly out of it and came back to stop Courage Tsabala. Courage run out of gas in that fight. Later brother brolog.
dansweeney 01-20-2005, 07:00 PM atwa66 against tyson jr
trinidadpr87 01-20-2005, 07:04 PM atwa66 against tyson jr
lol funny ****. :D
rapidrio 01-20-2005, 10:23 PM Hey guys, what fighter do you think rose from the most savage knockdown to win a fight? I don't mean some flash knockdown like most of Trinidad's, but a knockdown that would have put most fighters to sleep?

Tony Lopez vs rocky Lockridge I...thats why it was fight of the year! It wasnt the best...but it was SWEEEEET!
Silverfox 01-20-2005, 11:24 PM I witnessed one of the greatest fights ever, back in November 1973.
Arnold Taylor fought Romeo Anaya for the bantamweight title. Taylor was being smashed down repeatedly, yet rose each time, to eventually go on to knock Anaya out in the 14th round. That fight was the epitome of everything that a boxing fan craves in the sport.
Again, it demonstrates too, the ability of a great ref who is capable of assessing damage to any fighter. Yet, Taylor looked very much the loser after the fight, so badly battered & swollen was he.
It got the 'Ring' magazine's fight of the year award.
oldgringo 01-20-2005, 11:39 PM Although these guys didn't get off the canvas, they were great "comebacks" regardless.
Chavez/Taylor - Chavez clearly being outboxed and on his way to his first loss KO's Mel Taylor in extremely controversial fashion in the closing seconds of the 12th round.
Peden/Campbell - Campbell was starting to impose his will on Peden and hit him with a devastating bodyshot. Dumbass Campbell doesn't put it together when Peden folds over in pain, and instead of attacking Peden...he drops his hands to showboat and gets KTFO. Great stuff.
Sister Sledge 01-20-2005, 11:39 PM how about carbajal-gonzales member that one.
Yes I do. Carbajal was very good and provided a lot of good memories.
rapidrio 01-20-2005, 11:43 PM Yes I do. Carbajal was very good and provided a lot of good memories.
Now there`s a Trilogy not enough of us talk about. Great fights
Sister Sledge 01-21-2005, 01:00 AM Now there`s a Trilogy not enough of us talk about. Great fights
Yeah, these little guys really brought recognition to the lighter weights. It's too bad they never fought Ricardo Lopez.
Tha Greatest 01-21-2005, 01:56 AM Not the best one but one i just rememberd
Jack Dempsey-Luis Angel Firpo
Firpo knocked Dempsey out of the ring, he comes back and knocks him out in the same round
oo ya and De La Hoya-Valenzuela
DLH gets knocked down in round 1 but comes back n knocks him out
The Golden Boy 01-21-2005, 08:12 AM Carbajal - Gonzalez. Flash in the 2nd but Carbajal was really hurt in the 5th. On top of that until he was knocked out Gonzalez looked like Carbajal's punches weren't even affecting him. I think the reason the trilogy is not often talked about is because the 2nd and 3rd fights weren't even close to the level of the 1st.
LuKahnLi 01-21-2005, 08:53 AM The ultimate = Moore vs. Durelle
Moore was down FOUR times, before coming back to stop Durelle.
How can I forget that one?
MikeHunt 01-21-2005, 01:58 PM I vote for Larry Holmes twice.
1st against Renaldo Snipes and then against Ernie Shavers.
Silverfox 01-21-2005, 11:25 PM Thompson KO'ing Rothmann last year. Amazing fight and a great comeback by Thompson.
You are kidding...right?
I have watched almost all of Sebastian Rothman's fights. This, due to the fact that he is South African and so am I. From the outset, I rated him a paper tiger.
He has the most pathetic jab in the game and telegraphs his right every time.
It was only a matter of time before a half decent fighter took him apart. He never had much of a chin anyway. Only his fitness stood him in good stead. I doubt very much, that he will fight meaningfully again.
I congratulate Thompson for carrying on and winning a title at his age. Good for him!
tommyhearns804 04-05-2006, 09:12 PM George Foreman vs Ron Lyle period. The other people that were named were good fights but guys like Trinidad had poor chins.Seeing him knocked down isn't a shock. But Foreman had one of the best chins in boxing history. To see the man down not once but twice in the same round and then right before he knocked out Lyle Foreman was being rocked big time..Just watch the fight and you will see why i picked these warriors.
flipside 04-05-2006, 09:18 PM corrales-castillo definitely
Kid Achilles 04-05-2006, 09:20 PM Foreman's chin is overrated. He was seriously rocked by Ken Lakusta, dropped by Jimmy Young, and that was not all exhaustion that made him drop in the 8th round against Ali. It was good but nothing on the level of Chuvalo, McCall, Tua, Tex Cobb, Baer etc.
DiegoFuego 04-05-2006, 09:20 PM corrales-castillo definitely
I second that. Corrales down twice, comes back 30 seconds later and ends the fight. This after 9 and a half rounds of non-stop flush-landing punch trading. Insane.
AintGottaClue 04-05-2006, 09:41 PM gotta be castillo-corrales, corrales doesnt have the best chin so getting floored twice by a big puncher then getting up and being the first person to stop the iron chined castillo was amazing, lucky for the JLC fans tony weeks stopped the fight so your boy still hasnt been down
Larry Merchant 04-05-2006, 10:07 PM def May 7th 2005 Chico was in the best fight ever
R.Winky Wright 04-05-2006, 10:25 PM too bad he didn't win, but vargas gave us a hell of a fight when he got up after the two knockdowns in the first against tito.
yea hi saw that fight, he would have one if he wasn't getting bagged. THANKS TITO!!!
Left2body 04-05-2006, 10:30 PM def May 7th 2005 Chico was in the best fight ever
2nd that it was one of if not the very best fights and come backs I ever saw. 2 hard knockdowns not flash knockdowns and he still wins.
The other is probably Gatti vs Rodriguez, I also saw that one. Others out there might remember better comebacks from old times but those 2 are the best I've seen.
GordoMillones 04-06-2006, 12:13 AM Torres Vs Cotto
flipside 04-06-2006, 12:31 AM how come a lot of people dont have the corrales castillo fight as the best comeback win from a KD vargas lost right? corrales won in big fashion JLC was lucky he didnt die with the way he looked after those punches from chico and tony weeks stopped the fight JUST the right time
i dont want to hear people saying it was not a correct stoppage
READ:PERMANENT BRAIN DAMAGE
mECHsLAVE 04-06-2006, 01:16 AM Mickey Ward coming back to KO Sanchez after not only being down, but losing every round big. Merchant was yelling for the fight to be stopped and awarded to Sanchez he was dominating Ward so badly, and BOOM Ward KO's him in the same round with a brutal left to the body.
corrales-castillo definitely
about damn time! I was gonna say until i finally saw ur post.
flipside 04-06-2006, 01:54 AM about damn time! I was gonna say until i finally saw ur post.
hell yeah most definitely did you read my follow up on that?
hell yeah most definitely did you read my follow up on that?
Sure did bro, hit the nail right on the head.
When I clicked on the thread I figured corrales would have been mentioned within 5 posts, then 5 ****ing pages went by until I saw urs. Then everyone started saying chico
Smashing 04-06-2006, 04:25 AM i havent read the whole thread...but i remember Nigel Benn getting a real beating, smashed thru the ropes and hit with a savage punch while he was down from the G-man....and we all know what happened next..
deuce_drop 04-06-2006, 04:39 AM castillo-corrales I
corrales knocked down twice with a point deducted for spitting out his mouth piece, then wins by stoppage in the next exchange...awesome always.
another i'm not a 100% sure but i think it was eubanks-watson II and eubanks got dropped, beat the count, and with the very next punch of the fight he knocked old boy out cold to win. i've only seen it once but it was truely amazing. it's a great clip if you can find it.... i only saw it on vhs....
yrrej 04-06-2006, 06:45 AM Holmes/Shavers....
Superman RJJ 04-06-2006, 09:46 AM Has to be Benn v McClellan, Benn was knocked completely out of the ring and still beat him
THE REAL NINJA 04-06-2006, 11:32 AM cant really think of one but the look in roy jones eyes when he went down in his fight with Lou Del Valle and the smackdown roy put on him the rest of the fight
BloodClot 04-06-2006, 11:49 AM I saw this match about 2-4yrs ago..Teddy Atlas fighter called Kid Kosovo MF knocked his opponent don like twice then got KD like 4 times annd then got up And Tko the guy..... Anyone remember this fight?
Jarlaxle 04-06-2006, 12:04 PM The ultimate = Moore vs. Durelle
