IMMINENT RUPTURE WITH TOP RANK
Juan Carlos Gubi
Box-Latino.com
January 14, 2005

Manager Ignacio Beristáin, surprised when declaring that "an imminent rupture with Top Rank comes", so that continues promoting so much the world-wide champions Juan Manuel and Rafael Márquez.

It explained that in days last it observed that the contracts of these with the mentioned company had concluded; nevertheless, "there is a clause in the contract of Juan Manuel who wins until May, reason why must make two fights more for the company", that would be in February (Israel Vázquez) and May (In Jin Chi) tentatively.

"I am going to say whom will face Juan Manuel in February as in May as much and will be everything, whereas Rafael no longer has obligations with the company", affirmed.

It was interrogated to him on if already the rupture were definitive and responded that "in principle yes... despite we are open to negotiate and to listen to supplies, but in case of not having agreement, we will begin to work by our part", established.

The forced question was if annoying him that has fallen the lawsuit between Márquez and Pacquiao, to which it responded "of no way... we we thought that that fight was worth more of the 750 thousand dollars that offered, because we could not accept that if to Pacquiao his proxy offered 900 thousand dollars to him, the champion could not gain less".

It explained that the company Top Rank directs to Israel Vázquez and Dominican Joan Guzmán, possible adversaries of the champion pen FIB and AMB, Juan Manuel Márquez, the 26 of February in Fertile valleys, EU, within the function that the Puerto Rican heads Miguel Cotto, super-light champion OMB.

Beristáin discarded of entrance to Guzmán, because "we did not gain anything if we accepted that fight", but indicated that if Vázquez, present champion superrooster FIB accepts to raise of division, "would be a good rival".

i think it's nacho's job to find the best fight out there for his fighter. jmm has entrusted his career to this man and they are the ones alone who can make or break his career. however, it seems like they can't get the best possible fight there because nacho does not have a businessman's attitude and most of his decisions are subjective. jmm should probably fire nacho as a managar and let him concentrate on his training only.

I agree with you Jose and besides nothing has been signed yet. All of this maybe bla bla bla after all but I agree that nacho must concentrate on his work as a trainer and forget about managing the brothers' career because he sucks as a manager. My opinion.

Hey anybody can answer my question?

Why is Pac vs. Morales 12 rounds? There's no belts at stake right? (its not a championship fight)

This is just my opinion (or guess) as I am no tech expert in boxing.

1. None of the alphabet guys are sanctioning this fight,
So their rules of 12 rds for a championship fight and 10 for non-title bouts need not apply?

2. This is considered a mega fight (like Pacman vs Barrera)so the promoters want to give fans and pay per view customers more reason to buy?

3. While no official title is at stake, both Pacman and MOrales are considered peoples' champion or contender by the boxing world, thus it is in that respect a "championship" bout?

whadayathink?

no, no and no

Its a 12 round belt ebcause the Promotor will get a title like the IBA or WBU to sanction it.

Among the three I'm leaning towards the second one, but I still think it's bullcrap the way the rules are. Of course I wanna see 12 rounds of it...but

Pacman is peeps champ at feather not superfeather (where they will be fighting) and Morales is not a peeps champ. If he was, Barrera took it. So the 3rd one is a long shot. But thanks.

OK, that was informative. So who sanctioned the Pacman Barrera 12 round fight? Coz in that case, Pac should have been given a (minor?) belt then, right?

Going back to topic:

I think JMM is not ducking Guzman, Nacho was right when he said that Guzman is a waste of time for JMM...high-risk, low return! It's funny because it was the same thing MAB and Erik camps were saying why they didn't wanna fight JMM. Now it's JMM's turn to do the talking!
