Hennessy Sports would like to make it clear that only the WBC middleweight title will be on the line when Howard Eastman challenges undisputed middleweight king Bernard Hopkins on February 19th. There has been some confusion over this matter following an announcement last week by HBO – and subsequently Hennessy Sports – stating that the WBA, IBF and WBO titles were also up for grabs.

“We would like to apologise for this misunderstanding,” said Hennessy Sports head Mick Hennessy.
“It was never our intention to mislead anybody.

“Our understanding at the time of our announcement was that all the Championships would be contested.

“We have since learnt, however, that Bernard Hopkins is only prepared to stake the WBC title he has been mandated to defend.

“If this situation changes we will keep everybody updated.”

Hennessy added: “This is no way detracts from the fight.

“At the end of the day the two best middleweights in the world are facing each other and that is what counts

That is a str8 up ***** move by Hopkins. If he loses, he still keeps the WBA/WBO/IBF belts, bad for boxing.

Wow, that's kinda lame. If he loses, he's still the champion. Maybe it's an insurance for future fights?

Pretty ****ty by B'Hop. Would he have to give all 4 organisations a slice of the purse if he was defending them all?

Good move, Howard Eastman doesn't deserve all the belts if he could beat Hopkins, which I don't expected it will happen.

LMAO, i was thinking the same thing.

If Eastman wins he should get it all, if you beat the man you become the man.

Yes. Probably about 10% of his purse, so I don't blame him.

exactly, this is a financial decision no security blanket for hopkins. if he loses he will lose the WBC and the ring title to eastmen. to my knowledge he will be stripped of the ibf and wba titles because they strip any champ that loses, defending the belts or not. not sure about the wbo, so if hopkins loses he will pretty much lose all his belts

but we all know that AINT' HAPPENIN LOL

Yes

Thats why he is doing this. Its no different than Jones only defending one of his belts or Tszyu only defending one of his.
