STERN FINED $3 MILLION FOR LEWD CONVERSATION WITH GIRLFRIEND
FCC says shock jock’s sexually themed discussion in bedroom violates indecency regulations
Hollywood — The Federal Communications Commission yesterday levied its largest fine yet against controversial broadcaster Howard Stern for a sexually explicit conversation he had with his girlfriend during intercourse. According to the FCC complaint, Stern was copulating with his long time girlfriend Beth Ostrofsky in his Long Island home on November 8 and was heard by a neighbor telling Ostrofsky “you’re a dirty whore, aren’t you?” and “why don’t you turn around and take it from behind.” The FCC immediately took action after receiving the complaint, imposing its first ever fine for words not broadcast on TV or radio. “Mr. Stern’s indecent language at home is a serious offense,” stated FCC Chairman Michael Powell.
Many civil libertarians were up in arms over the fine, claiming it set a dangerous precedent for government regulation. But Powell insisted it was a natural extension of the FCC’s powers and the only way to keep Stern, who has run afoul of FCC regulations on numerous occasions, in check.
“Howard Stern needs to learn transmitting his thoughts over the publicly owned air is a privilege, whether he’s doing it into a microphone or whispering into his lover’s ear in his bedroom,” Powell said at a press conference announcing the fine. “Our repeated fines for his radio broadcast have not taught him that respect, so more drastic measures have become necessary.”
But Stern said the fine is just another example of hypocrisy by Powell and the FCC.
“I know for a fact that Oprah Winfrey talks like a dirty whore in bed with Stedman, but the FCC does nothing against her,” said a livid Stern. “Just because she’s ‘beloved,’ according to Michael Powell, Oprah gets to beg Stedman to give it to her up the ass with no fine. It’s outrageous.”
Stern added that once his contract with Viacom ends next year and he starts broadcasting on Sirius Satellite Radio, he’ll be moving his home as well. The multi-millionaire will purchase a condominium Sirius is building in one of its satellites where he’ll reside and be free to talk filthy to his girlfriend without intervention by the FCC.
Several Republic Congressmen have already proposed bills to extend the FCC’s regulations to space, however.
