MORALES REVEALED A WOMAN CAUSED HIS DOWNFALL; VOWS NOT TO COMMIT SAME MISTAKE AGAINST PACQUIAO

Admitting for the first time that his most recent loss to Marco Antonio was due to his liaison with a woman, legendary Mexican warrior Erik Morales yesterday vowed not to commit the same mistake when he takes on Filipino ring hero Manny Pacquiao when they trade leathers on March 19 at the MGM Grand Garden and Casino in Las Vegas.

Morales, speaking to the Mexican press, admitted that one week of passion with a woman had cost him to lose concentration while training for his rubbermatch with Barrera, which eventually led to his heart-breaking loss to Barrera last November.

"It's all about training hard. Get good people around you. Get ready to fight, study the fight, know what you're going up against and then you go at it," Morales said in an interview with Darren Nichols of **********.

Morales has also welcomed the fact that for the first time in his 12 years as a prizefighter, he has not been installed as the favorite against Pacquiao, indicating that it takes so much pressure off him.

"I will not have to worry about Pacquiao, a boxer who is prepared to win and someone who has already gained the confidence of the big television networks through his performance," Morales added.

When asked what he plans next after the fight with Pacquiao, Morales said, "We're going to try and surprise some people. Get this fight over and talk about what we want to do next."

Morales is guaranteed $2.5 million to face Pacquiao, while the Filipino ring idol will get $1.75 Million. Both fighters will also earn from pay-per-view uptake, according to sources.

The reason he lost is that broken nose he suffered in the first round. Tough break for Morales.

The reason he lost was Barerra wanted it more..

LittleBigMan

I don't agree with that. They both wanted it badly, Morales just forgot to fight his fight. I don't blame him really. He outboxed Barrera in the 2nd fight and they didn't give it to him so what is he supposed to do?

Barrera has Morales' number, period.

In the second fight, Barrera fought far too timidly...giving rounds to Morales.

If Barrera steps up against Morales....Morales will lose every time.

I don't see it. Barrera cannot box with Morales, no way

Mr. Ryan

I was one of those guys who didn't believe Morales was as good as they were saying until the first Barrera fight. I think Morales is simply not as good as Barrera. Barrera just seems to have his number.

Morales did not outbox Barrera in the second fight....Barrera GAVE those rounds away.

Barrera is faster than Morales, & possess a FAR SUPERIOR left jab.
When Barrera steps forward & punches (with commitment) off his jab....Morales can't get anything done.

I agree 100% sensation. Barerra, when he fights like he did in the first and third fights, is the better fighter. I also think that Morales has taken the greater beatings from the trillogy and in other fights too! Barrera is simular to Evander Holyfield in the sense of his great comebacks from seemingly being shot and done. I think he recuperates over time well. I fear in Morales` case eventual burn out might hit him. About 3, 4 yrs down the line.....SHOT!

They say that behind every man's success is a woman. Not the other way around! ;) Previously, Morales was saying he had an off night (which is becoming the most convenient excuse for a loss these days!) ;)

Now he's saying a woman caused his downfall! People are coming out with the most wild, if very colorful, excuses! What's next? Really now, Erik...

Did you miss the 3rd fight? I have had to use this quote so many times, Jim Lampley said it the best during the third fight "Marco Antonio Barrera is seperating himself from Erik Morales" Marco's corner also summarized most of the fight up in between one of the rounds saying "Your making a mess! Your the master"

I mean cmon. Barrera is better than Erik Morales. How is it not obvious?

Morales came into the fight thinking that he was the bigger man & the bigger puncher. He thought that once he connected with a big right hand he'd KO MAB but that didn't happen. MAB came to fight & hit Morales with some great combos early to get his respect. When Morales realized that he wasn't going to KO him him he seemed discouraged. That sick uppercut MAB landed in the 2nd changed fight.

Barrera is the better boxer and Morales is the thougher warrior. That's why their bouts are always entertaining.

Should they fight a 4th time, it'll be a tossup. It will also be interesting to see in what weight they fight, as Barrera says he doesn't feel comfortable at 130 and Morales is thinking about going up to 135.

Barrera is the better boxer? Is that a joke?

It's not a joke. It's the truth. And quite an obvious one. Barrera is the better boxer because he can adapt his style depending on the rival. Did you see the way he destroyed Hamed? He just changed his style from brawl to box and the Prince could do nothing to hurt him. Also, MAB knew the only way to beat Barrera was to fight inside and that's why he has come victorious in 2 out of 3 fights (he won the 1st and lost the 2nd, imo)

Barrera would never take the punishment that Morales took from Jesus Chavez and even Carlos Hernandez. MAB would dispatch those two with ease, like he did with Paulie Ayala. Maybe he's not as entertaining to the crowd, but he's definately more cerebral than el Terrible.

Don't get me wrong, I love Eric and I actually think he will beat PacMan. But I get the feeling he has trouble adapting to every rival. For example, he could have boxed with Jesus Chavez after the 2nd round and scored a rather easy UD without getting hurt, but he chose to brawl again. He did score the UD, but got hurt more than he should have. Same with Carlos Hernandez.

Anyway, those are my .02

Thats BULL****. Even in the second fight, the rounds Barrera won were NOT EVEN CLOSE. The rounds Barrera won in the third fight looked the same.

Yep....I have to agree. However, Morales is more of a spent force than anyone really realises. Review videos of his fights from 2/3 years ago...He's not the same commited fighter. He used to fight with intent. He commited his weight to every shot. Not now!
Barrera too, is declining. But what do the fans expect....Eternal youth?

Manny is now the ascending star....Cotto is now the ascending star. The older stars have shone....they are now waning! That's life!

A True Champ can't let those things get in his way

Barrera won...Fair and square...Barrera is the better fighter...
ONCE AND FOR ALL! All that hard work from Barrera and morales is tryin to say his better but tha girl got to him.

What the **** is up with Morales...he's acting like a little kid...If he had some respect and wasnt so arrogant...He would've had more fans....

Jim Lampley-i met him right after the morales-barrera III fight
and he was saying because of Morales's arrogance he didnt know what barrera could do to him...He said BARRERA IS BETTER!
