I hope you didn't pay more than 10 bucks for that fight. Fights in Telefutura and ESPN FNF are way better than that lineup.

But what the hell, it's a slow friday night.

Johnston vs Quinonez are having an equal fight.

Quinonez was KD in round 1, so Johnston is probably ahead.

Round 8 was a flip coin.

E=MC2
01-27-2006, 10:58 PM
Round 9:

Steve is pressuring but eating jabs of Stevie.

Stevie seems to do better than Steve in exchanges.

Good body punching by Steve.

Another flip coin round.

Round 10:

Both fighters in terrrific shape, great conditioning. Both are throwing a lot of punches -- 60+ punches per round.

Stevie opens the round with a great combo. Steve starts to use jab more effectively. Steve is showing a sign of fatique.

Steve is eating Stevie's jabs.

A great exchange at the end of the round.

Stevie wins round 10.

Round 11:

So far this is a very equal fight in terms of punches landed.

Steve is using huggy bear tactic, reminding me the best of Ruiz.

Jonston (Stevie) is dancing, ducking, and counterpunching.

The round probably goes to Stevie.

Round 12:

Steve (Quinonez) actually landed many more punches last round, much more than I realized.

Steve is attacking agressively. Good, versatile punching by Steve. Good combo ala Manny. Stevie is down. No official KD.
Very close round. Steve lunches a furry of punches at the end of the fight.

Round 12 goes to Steve.

They are showing Mike Tyson surrounded by a punch of gay folks. Mike is all smiling and waving and kissing.

Oh, wait, maybe that's not Mike.

118:110 for Stevie
116:111 for Stevie
116:111 for Stevie Johnston

Right outcome, though Quinonez landed more punches. It seems that the scores should have been closer.

Hill-Brudov.

Hill wins rounds 1 and 2. Not much landed.

Close round. I think for Brudov.

Is Brudov legit or some bum that was put in there, so that Hill reclaims past glory?

Round 4:

Close round for Hill.

Just looked up his record, looks like a bum, the best opponents of his were 5-0 and 12-7.

Hill is cut.

I think Hill is like 40 years old or more, so looks like a bum that's there to make Hill look like a Cinderella story. Still, I am rooting for Hill because he was a very good boxer in his time.

Roun 7 close, Hill was running the entire round.

Round 12 for Brudov. The rest for Hill who was running and
jabbing and making Brudov look like a fool.

Hill was woobled quite well by one of Brudov's punches.

I have it 8:4 or 7:5 for Hill, though Brudov landed more power punches throughout.

Judges have it 118:110, so they scored it 10:2 for Hill, which seems off to me.

Hill is the new WBA champion. This is a great achievement for the 42 year fighter.

Congratulations to Virgil!

Virgil actually looks like Will Smith.

Good thing for him. Definitely the oldest champion out there and must be one of the oldest beltholders ever.

Paper belt or not, it's an achievement considering the fact that he won a WBA belt in 1987. Almost 20 years ago.

Who said it was a paper belt? That's a real belt for sure!

I mean paper because it looks like Brudov was untested. I'll get to it when I see the fight.

True. Brudov has never fought anyone in the top 20. If he had more experience, he would have done a whole lot better.

I get the impression that this was similar to Gatti vs. Branco. A rugged ex champion vs. an undefeated, but untested fighter for a vacant belt.
