View Full Version : Kotsya Tsyzu: Aussie Or Russian?
Mr. Violence 01-16-2005, 10:22 PM I noticed that most Australians claim Kotsya as their own,he's even called "The Thunder From Down Under"...BUT Russians claim him as theirs too, it's like watching tug-of-war. I know he is of Russian heritage, but he now proudly calls Australia his home. In a battle of nationalities what do you consider him? Aussie Or Russian. Your opinions please. :D
Chups 01-16-2005, 10:41 PM Whatever he prefers...if he indeed says that he's Australian then so be it.
Eyeh8you 01-16-2005, 10:44 PM this is when you know no good boxing has happened in a while, ridiculous threads like these!

****...this is the thread of the day...look at all the other threads they are all alike...and about the same fighters too.
Mr. Violence 01-16-2005, 11:00 PM and as a matter of fact most people don't know what to consider Tszyu either.
davico 01-16-2005, 11:06 PM He has been quoted as saying that he is an Australian who is also Russian. He lives and trains in Australia carries an Australian flag to the ring and calls himself the Thunder from Down Under. I would consider him Australian. I really don't see why so many people have a problem with KT being called an Australian when there are a **** load of fighters who fight as American and British who are in exactly the same situation, or in fact don't even live in the country they claim they are fighing for.

Why? Because it's not about Trinidad, PBF, Judah or Pacman?

bonafuwa 01-17-2005, 01:35 AM ****, I like this thread! At least it's unique, not some overrated, underrated boxers crap. Enough of those.
To me, Tszyu is Russian. His style, demeanor, everything just says Soviet. He might be an Australian citizen or whatever, but he's Russian.
Sue_B 01-17-2005, 01:47 AM Australian. Just like in the US there are people who have an ethnic heritage but since they are born here or made a citizen than they are called American. Same goes for Zoo he is Australian. :o

You guys do know that Kostya Tzysu isn't white, right? His mother was a Korean/mongolian and his father was russian.

His granfather on the father's side was Korean. The rest of his family were Russian.

...I tend to agree with this assesment but would also add that Russians have a right to think of him as their own and be proud that he is theirs.
ejk22 01-17-2005, 12:03 PM He was born in Russia but raised and still lives in Australia.
Mr. Violence 01-17-2005, 01:14 PM actually i saw a picture of Tsyzu's dad he looks full blooded Asian...i guess his dad is one of those Russians who have a lot of Asian blood.

Lol, that's for sure
Tzysu is a perfect example of what Russia is becoming. There are a lot of Korean people in russia nowadays. Did you see the olympics? Everyone on the kazakstan team were korean...it was odd...you think some russian guy is gonna come out for a country that used to be part of the soviet union and some 6'5" asian guy comes out.
