Update: Vazquez Denies Marquez' Claims
By German Villasenor (January 16, 2005)

Frank Espinoza, manager of IBF super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez, has stated that they have not been in any negotiations to fight WBC / IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in February, despite claims to the contrary from Team Marquez.

It had been reported in a broadcast interview from Mexico City with Marquez and Nacho Beristain during Friday night's Telefutura telecast that Vazquez would be Marquez's next opponent.

''There has never been any negotiations regarding Vazquez vs. Marquez. This fight is not going to happen,'' Mr. Espinoza wrote to this writer in response to the previous report.

Marquez thus remains in search of an opponent to make up for the aborted Manny Pacquiao rematch which was supposed to take place in February.

Vazquez expressed after his last fight (a fifth round KO over number one challenger Artyom Simonyan in December) that he will be back in the gym very soon as his next fight will take place in March against an undetermined opponent at a place TBA.

Let JMMarquez challenge Barrera. That would be huge...or unify with either WBO champ Scott Harrison or WBC champ In Jin Chi.

Maybe they didn't want to get overshadowed by the Pacquiao-Morales announcement?

Poor JMM. From being the avoided one to avoiding juan and now back to avoided one again. He can't blame anyone but himself or nacho.

what? no fight for JMM on February 26? come on guys, the guy is supposed to get peanuts in that fight, now he gets nothing... what discrepancy in his purse in his "should have been fights"... from $750K to just around about some peanuts, then now zero... poor WBA and IBF champion...

No . . no . . . Bro he is not being avoided here :D the truth is team JMM is simply trying to make noise and get noticed to make it appear that JMM is OK without that Pac rematch . . . but that was all just imagination. Why would JMM go down in weight and fight Vasquez for smaller amount money while he has his mandatory challengers lined up :D

JMM should give the No. 1 contender "Rocky Juarez" a shot at the title, this will be a good sell if this happen, and maybe the guys will take even on a very short notice ...

for now he is on the outside waiting to get in ...

That's right Bro. JMM is outside of the picture at present . . . and that should give him ample time to make up his mind if he really wanted to mixed it up with Pac again.

Being thrown out and being dropped like a "hot potato", JMM and his team should realize that they just lost their power to negotiate . . . next time Team Pac can stick to their "take it or leave it" stand especially if Pac suceeds against EM.
