View Full Version : In boxing, is being tall overrated? N P 01-16-2005, 09:15 AM ... or not? elveiel 01-16-2005, 09:24 AM Sometimes, some people go on about a 1 inch reach advantage like it will make all the difference  Being talls good but so is being short, it depends on your style. spinksjinx 01-16-2005, 09:36 AM Being tall is good for outside fighting and being short is good for inside, each serves it's on purpose. It will be harder for a short man with a short reach to bounce around the ring popping the jab than it would be for a tall man. But easier for a short man to duck and keep his head down and moving forward.... Uppercuts work well with short people. gravity62 01-16-2005, 10:25 AM That ass is nice! leff 01-16-2005, 02:04 PM I dont matter much exept in heavy where you can weigh what you like. In the other classes the shorter fight will be the compact and stronger fighter. ejk22 01-16-2005, 02:07 PM If you are tall and can box by using your size to your advantage yes it makes a big difference. Someoner like Valuev who has the ability to dominate has the size but does not have the skill or the boxing sense to dominate. Sue_B 01-16-2005, 02:08 PM tall fighters have a longer reach ELPacman 01-16-2005, 02:29 PM Not if your Vitali Klitscko... whdempsey 01-16-2005, 09:11 PM Being short and having a small reach can be an enormous advantage if you're smart enough. If you're not though, you get ****ed up. bonafuwa 01-17-2005, 01:28 AM Being tall is definitely overrated. Most tall fighters in the heat of battle forget to use it to their advantage - like Morales vs Barerra III. Tall = don't fight on the inside, use your reach and jab. TyrantT316 01-17-2005, 07:51 PM effectively utilizing what God gives you is the best advantage possible... grayfist 01-17-2005, 08:39 PM I can't recall any really tall fighter other than Lennox Lewis who had huge success. Primo Carnerra was pretty tall, but his name is and was mentioned with knowing grins, whenever championship caliber tall fighters are discussed. Some trainers I have talked to have as much regard for tall fighters as NFL/AFL scouts have for tall running backs. :o psychopath 01-17-2005, 09:02 PM ... or not? :D Hey Bro height doesn't have anything to do on a fighter being under or over rated. Over rated is people, organization or an institution giving a fighter so much props and credit more that what he really deserves. HYPED. A case of his reputation being bigger than his real accomplishment. Peace. valero 02-02-2011, 04:30 PM Lol you guys. |
