At Featherweight, does the Clones Cyclone stand a chance? One of my favorites in a bout I think would have been a lot of fun.

View Full Version : Erik Morales vs Barry McGuigan GForce22 01-24-2006, 08:10 PM At Featherweight, does the Clones Cyclone stand a chance? One of my favorites in a bout I think would have been a lot of fun. GH number6 01-25-2006, 06:56 PM Morales comfortable ud win.McGuigan was good but not even close to being in Morales class. It would be a good fight to watch though. paul750 01-25-2006, 07:21 PM 1985 McGuigan might do it, he was relentless. BlueBlazer 01-25-2006, 08:37 PM If Chris Eubank's older, fatter, shorter brother can beat Barry... BlueBlazer 01-25-2006, 08:38 PM If Chris Eubank's older, fatter, shorter brother can beat Barry... But I know, I know. Barry was just out-hussled by Pete, and they were fighting two-minute rounds which didn't suit Barry's pressure style. I think Barry gives Morales a heck of a fight, this would be an awesome match-up! machotime 01-25-2006, 08:42 PM 1985 McGuigan might do it, he was relentless. Not really. He was good, Morales is on a different page. Yogi 01-25-2006, 08:52 PM Not really. He was good, Morales is on a different page. The 1985 version of Finbar McGuigan was on a terror at that point in his career (in addition to beating Pedroza, Finbar handled Juan Laporte easier than did Pedroza, Chavez, Sanchez, etc.) and even cracked the top six in the p4p rankings when the year was out...Morales has had the better career obviously, but at their respective peaks I think McGuigan gives Morales a hell of a close & exciting fight and just may be able to pull off the upset. If a rough & tough pressure fighter like In Jin Chi can lure Morales into the trenches (which other fighters have done with Morales, as well) and give him such a hard fought fight all throughout...who knows? Yogi 01-25-2006, 09:25 PM Not really. He was good, Morales is on a different page. P4P rankings for Dec of 1985; 1. Marvin Hagler 2. Hector Camacho 3. Michael Spinks 4. Donald Curry 5. Thomas Hearns 6. BARRY MCGUIGAN 7. Milton McCrory 8. Julio Cesar Chavez 9. Pinklon Thomas 10. Larry Holmes And I'm just looking threw my boxing magazines from Morales' Featherweight tenure and the highest I can see him ranked in the P4P rankings is this ranking in June of 2003; 1. Bernard Hopkins 2. Roy Jones 3. Marco Antonio Barrera 4. Oscar De La Hoya 5. Kostya Tszyu 6. ERIK MORALES 7. Floyd Mayweather 8. Ricardo Mayorga 9. Lennox Lewis 10. Vernon Forrest Just an example that some of the "experts" thought, at their respective Featherweight peaks and according to their p4p rankings from each's time, McGuigan & Morales were on the exact same level/page. srl#1fan 02-21-2006, 02:00 AM P4P rankings for Dec of 1985; 1. I'll go with the Irish, I'd rather be ranked 6th behind the likes of Hagler, Hearns, Curry, and Camacho I mean RJJ and DLH are you kiddin' me(lol) these guys are not exactly fighters. More like strippers. moy22487 02-21-2006, 02:10 AM I'll go with the Irish, I'd rather be ranked 6th behind the likes of Hagler, Hearns, Curry, and Camacho I mean RJJ and DLH are you kiddin' me(lol) these guys are not exactly fighters.
