View Full Version : Pro's and Con's: Pacman vs El Terrible
AIR_KENG 01-15-2005, 10:47 PM Pro’s and Con’s: The Destroyer versus El Terrible
As much as everybody wants to see the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez rematch, we will rather see a good, if not better, classic match between Erik “El Terrible” Morales and Manny “The Destroyer” Pacquiao.
And as always, every classic battle between 2 of the most exciting fighters of the present time is preceded by much speculation and debate. So toi set things staright, let me sight some pro’s and con’s between these two great athletes.
I have divided this into categories so here goes:
POWER: These two are pretty much at par with regards to punching power. Manny is regarded to have the most devastating killer punch in boxing pound for pound, but on the contrary, he has yet to knock his opponent out with his right. His left is getting so much hype that people tend to underrate the power of his right, which also posseses some power as he displayed in the Barrera fight.
Erik on the other hand, has shown great and balanced punching power in both hands. He can knock opponents out with either hand and does so with tremendous precision and smooth style. Though he does not have that nasty killer blow that Pacquiao has, he greatly makes up for that with some brutal 1-2.
Advantage: DRAW
SPEED: This is quite obvious. With his fast-paced, come-what-may approach, Manny surely wins this category. His handspeed, footwork, bobbing and weaving all complement his attacking style and the early barrage of punches.
Erik is a slow-paced fighter, which may ezplain why he does not have such remarkable handspeed and footwork as Manny does. But it well fits his style of play.
Advantage: MANNY
SIZE AND REACH: Again, this is quite obvious. Erik is going to be the biggest opponent for Manny and may very well be a big factor in the fight. Erik is 2 inches taller than Manny, and has a whopping 4 inch advantage in reach. So this can greatly help the cause of the Mexican sensation.
Advantage: ERIK
ACCURACY: Due mainly to contrast of styles, Erik wins this category by a distance. With his think-now-attack-later approach, he will surely be more accurate in this fight. Manny is usually the aggressor in his fights and will still be in this one so it will probably spell a high number of total punches but very low landing rate.
Advantage: ERIK
STAMINA: This one is a close call. We know both fighters can go the distance. They have been in 10-12 round fights before and made it through. But I have to hand this out to Manny. With all that bobbing and weaving, he displays greater stamina than practically all of the fighters he faced.
Erik also has great stamina, but just like in his two loses to MAB, he tends to show fatigue after he is bombed with a barrage of punches. But this is still a close call.
Advantage: MANNY
EXPERIENCE: Erik’s 3 fights at 130 lbs to Manny’s none. Erik’s 149 championhip rounds to Manny’s 46.Whew! That’s a lot of difference! Experience is backing up Erik’s side without any question. He is more comfortable at the weight class and shown that by being the champion, before losing it to eventual champion, MAB. It will definitely be an advantage for him since he is well adsjusted to the weight class and will need less polishing compared to Pacquiao who is still fighting at 130 lbs for the first time.
Advantage: ERIK
HUNGER: I will have to give this to Erik once more. Coming off a loss, he will surely take it on Manny to regain his rightful place as one of the best, if not the best, featherweight in the world.
Advantage: ERIK
MINDSET: Erik is such an emotional fighter. He looks into battles as something personal and that is something he should win. That explains the hunger he has. But if he is not able to get over the MAB loss and rather take it on Manny, to prove something that he can beat the boxer that beat barrera, then it could a weakness. He displayed that well enough during the Barrera fight, he became too emotional and it became his downfall. Right now, Manny fights for flag and country, and not over some heated rivalry, so I will have to give this to him.
Advantage: MANNY
TRAINER: Not that I am too much credit on reputation, but his success and experience speaks for itself. Freddie Roach is undoubtedly the best trainer in boxing industry today and Manny respects him like no other. Having the best trainer surely gives advantage to a fighter.
Advantage: MANNY
TRAINING TIME: with both fighters starting early on, they should be in tip-top shape when they face each other.
Advantage: DRAW
Well there you have it guys, a split draw on paper. But certainly hope the real outcome won’t be this way. It should be ERIK or MANNY. No more no less. I just wish all the best of luck to both fighters and to all the fans.

excellent, excellent thread...it's exactly what we all needed to sum up the story on these 2 fighters.
ELPacman 01-15-2005, 11:50 PM Yeah it's about time someone makes a Manny thread that makes sense. I was starting to get annoyed myself with all the pointless, let's just talk about Manny threads that really were pointless. This information is pretty accurate though I'd have to say some of it can go either way. Stamina is based on how well the fighter trains. Comparing the Manny vs MAB to the Manny vs Marquez was like two totally different ones. Manny looked really tired after the 11th. Hey wow, I just realized, vs Marquez was Manny's first full 12 round fight ever. That's amazing. Anyways, other than that, I think were in for one heck of a fight. The best thing when it comes down to it is that both fighters will have plenty of time to prepare and are going to be in the best shape they can be when they meet. Let's just remember what a best shaped Manny can do to you(vs MAB :) )
OMG, so funny, watch this, http://www.funpic.hu/swf/numanuma.html
JaNnO 01-16-2005, 12:07 AM i think manny's average round per fight is 4.8. most of his fights rarely went beyond round 6.
Tha Greatest 01-16-2005, 01:45 AM U know what i think
Pacquiao will start attackin rite away and that will shock erik like in tha barrera fight then he'll get frustrated cuz pacmans a southpaw, erik's gonna have a long night.

Manny always starts out firing, with the exceptuion of the 3K battery fight where he test-fired his right on that poor thai boxer... well, anyway, morales-pacquiao is a fight of the year nominee, that's sure...
JOM'S 01-16-2005, 06:01 AM on paper both figthers have their advantages but sometimes advatages on paper becomes the total opposite come fight time ...
but i think only two advantages on paper will stick come fight night Manny's Speed and Erick's Size advantage ...
Air Keng's post makes a lot of sense indeed. Just to add...
Morales main trust is his reach and uses it from a distance where he is more dangerous. From my experience of watching Morales' fights, he throws more accurate punches from a distance where he could measure his opponent well. Morales also attacks effectively when you face him with your head down, he could dig you down in volume. On the other hand, when he fights close, the upper cut is his most lethal punch. But what is most admirable on Morales' offensive ability is when he sees an opening and hurt you, he would follow it up with fast combinations and no matter how you counter, he will stay on top of you to continue those volume of punches. Morales connecting punches from a distance and punches coming from the top because he is usually taller than his opponents were always easy for the judges to see, that is why he would usually get a decision. We could readily see such scenario on his victories against the smaller ones like Ayala, Chavez and Hernandez.
For Pacquiao to counter Morales' deadly arsenals, he need lots of head and feet movemen plus good defense, fast hands and staying close to Morales.Pac must make a relentless attack every round to throw off Morales from his rhytm. I usually see Morales having trouble fighting at a close distance especially when his opponent has quicker hands than him. He also has trouble dealing with relentless attacks but never to the body, only to the head. When Morales' engaged with In Jin Chi, the Korean would always force him to engage closer that allowed Chi to connect with clear shots to the head in most rounds, that is the reason why his fight with Chi was really competitve than expected. In his last fight with Barrera, Marco avoided a fight from a distance and would always engage Morales toe-to-toe, even though Morales would always be on top of Barrera up close, Barrera had the quicker hands, that is why Barrera won. One good thing that Pacquiao must do that he could follow from Barrera is that Barrera would first allow Morales to throw his deadly right, upon avoiding Morales' right, Barrera would immediately struck a left hitting Morales defenseless.
I believe with Pacquiao's speed, he could beat Morales better than what Barrera showed. The more danger here for Morales is that Pacquiao has powerful fists than Barrera and more relentless than Barrera. Pacquiao's ability in cutting the ring and speed would force Morales to fight close and toe-to-toe with Pacquiao. Besides, when Morales feels the painful blows of Pacquiao, his Mexican machismo instinct would come out and would really slambang with Pacquiao toe-to-toe, such match for sure would go Pacquiao's way.
I believe Morales has never seen such a fresh yet powerful and faster top opponent than Pacquiao. I never saw Zaragoza, but I saw Morales' fight with Ayala, Barrera, Hernandez, Chi, Espadas twice and Chavez and I could simply say no one comes close to Pac's power and speed. Barrera and Ayala might be more skillful than Pacquiao but Pac is getting more dangerous now with his improving skill that only complements his power and speed.
Pacquiao by late stoppage or decision.

MexicanBoxer 01-16-2005, 06:27 PM One thing that people misunderstand about mann is that one he throws his straight left he leaves himself wide open for an uppercut. anotherthing is that Erik fought Barrera and didn't box him because he just didn't like berrera but with pac man i think he will box him and at times they will exchange. OH YEAH HEY MANNY DIDN'T LOOK THAT PRETTY AFTER THE MARQUEZ FIGHT EITHER HE LOOKED PRETTY FUKED UP 2.

I believe this as well. I highly doubt Morales will exchange with Manny. He said it himself that he respects Manny's power and obviously won't make the mistake to trade with someone stronger than you and has put everyone in his title fights on the floor. He said it himself that it will be more of a technical fight and that he's going to prepare very hard for it. I think he's going to do some research as Team Pac will be doing to find flaws within each other's defenses. I think Morales will review the Barrera fight over the Marquez fight because even Morales knows, the Marquez fight was almost like saying Manny's right hand was broken the entire fight that night(and never in the past fights). So it will be a technical fight though I think after the 1st rd of sizing each other up, technicality will go out the window and it's going to be one of the best featherweight fights we'll ever see!!! :D

i think morales didn't mean what he said. how can he respect pac's power when he hasn't tasted it yet? this was apparent in his recent interview when he said he wanted to know who is the stronger puncher between them. besides his machismo mentality is his weakness, so all indication point to him going toe-to-toe with pac in the early rounds.

{BrownBomber} 01-17-2005, 03:00 AM Pro’s and Con’s: The Destroyer versus El Terrible
Wow this is great! But u forgot the main thing, they both have power and what do need to take that power....... a strong chin and that goes to .....Morales easy. Still i think Manny has a very good chance. U can analyze the size of theis booty holes if u want but it all comes down to fight night. Who will be the better that night? We have to wait and see may the best fighter win.

i just had the urge to at least put in a fair analysis of the fighters and what i thought of them. booty holes? i was quite objective, i think, and i somehow know some boxing so i am not that stupid to include it... but on the contrary, nice of you to point out... i will be including such comparisons when i write some more of these posts, hehe...
p.s. i didn't say who was going to win, i am leaving that to destiny...

Didnt mean anything in a bad way bro.Your post if they r this good r welcome to my eyes anytime. We need more of this, really.
Yes u can tell u know boxing cause this thread is great.keep up the good work.
P.s by destiny u r saying Pac wins right? Just a hunch bro. ;)
Dondon_Ampalayo 01-17-2005, 03:33 AM i dont thing erik would be that foolish to mix it up with pac in the opening bell, but pac will surely hit hard and waste no time. if and does erik get hurt, he'll probably mix it up coz he wont let his pride be bullied like that. pac should put him away no later than the sixth or seventh round, else erik will dance him away. forget about the granite chin. dig the body and remember, erik easily gets his face swollen, so work on the jabs.

ok, i did misinterpret you. i'm cool with that. can't say what destiny is going to do, but certainly hope pac wins. destiny is reletively different from hope...

he will not mix it up, but he does not have a choice... pac's not going to sit there and let erik dictate the pace of the game... but size does matter, so erik will probably put pac in a relatively farther range...
SalvaDominicano 01-17-2005, 10:54 AM not so sure.. if they bang it out they both have a good chance at catching each other. in the last mab/em fight, every time they went toe to toe erik looked much stronger physically. mab mostly boxed and found openings the whole fight.
AIR_KENG 01-17-2005, 11:01 AM i agree he looked stronger but also look more tired... that's what barrera's speed did to him and that's what gave him openings... much like the MAB-MP fight, MAB was caught waiting for pac and he erased his defense with his right then hit MAB in the face with his left... typical pac strategy...
SalvaDominicano 01-17-2005, 12:03 PM hmm.. morales wont be stupid tho. he better work on speed cuz he has the power already.
jpboxer3 01-17-2005, 12:10 PM I think Pacman should secretly hire MAB as a sparring partner.I mean, thats the best sparring partner out there if your getting ready to fight Morales. The crazy thing is,MAB just might do it since he hates EM so much, especially after EM threw a water bottle at his father.Seriously though,if Pac just watched tapes of MAB-EM,he'l realize that the blueprint on how to beat EM with ease is quite simple.
chingon28 01-17-2005, 12:21 PM i think some people expect too much from manny. he will fight a good fight but come up short against a determined fighter that doesnt know when to quit. im not saying morales is going to fight a dumb fight its just that he is not going to be intimidated by a one dimisional fighter. erik is a slugger but people underestimare his boxing ability. he is not stupid he knows that manny can knock him out. he is not going to go in there and trade punches. he will box manny and look for the knockout is he sees it. i hope manny does not underestimate eriks power cause he might get knocked out.

That's a very expensive sparring partner. What he's going to make in the EM fight will last him a few hours of training with MAB. LOL :D

i think Pac missed a chance to spar with another guy who is definetly the next best thing to MAB as sparring partner,
INJIN CHI was in Cebu before Pac left the Philippines ....

buddy if you have seen the press conference for the fight you would have seen that Manny was very respectful of EM, not making any prediction of KO, this just show that what you are hoping for the PAC will under estimate EM will never happen...
THIS WILL BE WAR...

It would be tough to spar with a potential opponent. You don't wanna give away too much of your secrets...

i agree, pac usually is outspoken when he knows he can beat the opposition easily, or when he does not have much respect for his opponent. he showed respect to morales and i think is being cautious not to fire the mexican too early... he might not have enough when he gets into the ring, hehe... anyway, bottomline is manny respects erik, and erik respects manny. period.
ELPacman 01-18-2005, 07:50 AM In the press conference, someone asked Manny a question and Manny replied there will be a knockdown or knockout in the fight for sure. He wasn't saying who though he said, he knows Eric has power though so does he, so he won't be surprised.
cmason 01-18-2005, 08:06 AM Air Keng's post makes a lot of sense indeed.
Pacquiao by late stoppage or decision.
i was going to post here but i think this just about covers the fight. being a morales fan i agree the worst thing he could do is stand toe-to-toe with pac, the power and speed of manny would be to much. for all his (considerable) skill, morales does tend to engage in wars when he could just box, the old "fight like a mexican" mindset. if he can establish his jab and get his right hand working from distance i can see morales winning, but if pac controls the pace like he did against barrera, he will win.
morancito 01-18-2005, 07:38 PM I'm a Filipino and I think manny is much stronger and can punch harder than Morales...Pacman will KO Morales in the 4th round!
This is the kind of clueless posts that annoys me. El Terrible has never been knocked out and his one knock down came on a quesionable call by the ref in the first Barrera fight. Yes, Pacman is hits like a mule. But Eric has shown he has a granite chin. So for someone to think he'll get knocked out in 4 rounds is kinda stupid.
Oh by the way, I'm Mexican. :)

there is nothing like a rivalry between two nations... but don't take it too seriously though, just enjoy the fight and let's see who wins... by the way, i am also a filipino, hehe...
morancito 01-18-2005, 10:08 PM Mexico has its most heated rivalry with Puerto Rico. Also Cuba in the old days.
But this Manny vs. the three headed Mexican monster (MAB, EM, JMM) could open space for a good rivalry between Mexico and the Filipinas.
Sister Sledge 01-18-2005, 10:53 PM As good as Manny is, I've seen him KO'd twice and knocked down several times. I don't think he has a great chin. Morales is as tough as they come and is a bigger fighter.
I think we all know that Erik will be able to take Manny's punches for twelve rounds if he has to, but will Manny be able to take Erik's power? I don't know, but I think this will be a big factor in the fight. Styles make fights, and Barerra just didn't have a good style to beat Manny and would probably always lose to him. Erik may not be as fast as Manny, but he has better fundamentals. Manny fades down the stretch and I see Morales catching up to him by the 9th or 10th round.

though i agree that erik's chin is more proven than manny's, let us consider when was the last time manny was KO'd or knocked down. that was long before and the manny today is totally different. he might not have the strongest chin but surely makes up for that with his defense. manny's defense only gets better and better with every fight. morales is slow for manny and does not have a remarkable handspeed, so manny could probably block erik's punches at any time. on teh other hand, i strongly disagree that manny fades late in a fight. if he fades well in a fight, then what do you call erik's? vanishing in the later rounds? as many fights as i've seen manny, he is still making that patended bobbing and weaving style even in the 12th round. if that's fading for you then i'll be fine with it...
Sister Sledge 01-19-2005, 01:05 AM How could JMM come back to get a draw after he was down 3 times in the 1st? M-Pac faded. I can't say this is the case for most of his fights, but it was against JMM. Serikzhan Yeshmangbetov put M-Pac down back in 2003, a fighter with a 3-6-1 record, so did MAB and Nedal Hussein. He was kayoed by Medgoen Singsurat and Rustico Torrecampo. Morales has faded of his bout at lighter weights, but he has done well at 130 and I can't see this as a problem. I can say one thing, M-Pac has only fought one very good fighter, so the pressure will be on him to step up. We know what Morales will bring. Manny is going might be in trouble.
Clay AikSkins 01-19-2005, 01:16 AM Eric's bravery will be his downfall. He will try to box but the 1st time he gets cracked.....provided it's not a lights out punch. He will stand and trade it is what he does. He has neither the hand speed to out box Paq nor the power to keep Paq off of him. Don't get me wrong I like Erik and think he is a great fighter. I give him major props for taking this fight. But unless Osama Bin Laden kidnaps Paq's family I see no way Erik can win.

he did not fade in the later rounds during that JMM fight, actually he kept on attacking JMM until the end. it is not fading out because he was not able to connect because of the counterpunching of JMM. fading out means you stop attcking and you are able to connect in anyway. they both finished the match strongly and i guess they did not fade out. ok, i agree with the knockdown by hussein and Serikzhan Yeshmangbetov, but MAB? that was a slip, clearly... did you watch the Medgoen Singsurat match? manny was obviously not in shape, i was so disgusted i that fight because he was not given the proper training and nutrition. be looked fat during that fight, so i won't count that as a legitimate KO on pac, he just wasn't in top form. and on erik fading out, he did at 130 in his last fight... and correction, i guess we can say pac has fought at least TWO good fighters, MAB and JMM...
Clay AikSkins 01-19-2005, 01:27 AM JMM will never fight Paq again. He knows he defied the odds to survive in that fight so he priced himself out of a rematch...good luck paying your bills this year JMM.

Yes, excuse me, he did fight two good fighters, but he was being outclassed by JMM for about 10 rounds. Your telling me a bigger stronger fighter with a better resume can't do the same. Let's not for MAB also lost to Junior Jones.
Clay AikSkins 01-19-2005, 02:01 AM well i don't see how it can happen. After all PAQ beat MAB up...MAB beat ERIK up...so logic tells us.....PAQ beats ERIK up.

Got a point there sister.
torvix2000 01-19-2005, 03:19 AM JMM-Pac showed that under the most intense counter fire, Pacquiao will still be able to land a lot of his power punches on his opponent.
Marquez only landed 10 more punches than Pac. If Pac can do that to a "perfect" counter puncher like JMM, then we don't have to wonder why Pac was able to pulverize MAB.

MAB? Are you halucinating friend? :D that's right officially DAMN ref Cole called that slip a K.D. but right there on that night during the course of the fight the panelist reviewed that segment over and over again and right there they declared that a Ref's mis call. Including that KD that Pac dealt MAB which again the ref called a slip. :D Common man let's deal with reality. Watch that fight over and over again watch that first round incident and listen to the panelist while that thing is being replayed in a slomo. :p
AIR_KENG 01-19-2005, 07:17 AM Yes, excuse me, he did fight two good fighters, but he was being outclassed by JMM for about 10 rounds. Your telling me a bigger stronger fighter with a better resume can't do the same. Let's not for MAB also lost to Junior Jones.
you said it yourself, fighitng styles make the difference. JMM is far more better than erik in terms of counterpunching so manny won't have any problem with that. MAB and manny have almost the same style and that should be a concern for erik. yes, erik is much bigger and stronger than JMM but on the other hand, he is much more slower than JMM. pacquiao had problems with marquez because he was constantly moving, erik does not do that... there goes my point...
Clay AikSkins 01-19-2005, 05:07 PM Sister I am sure you are the expert on nut hugging. If you are so sure that Erik will win perhaps you can put some money where your mouth is...that is if you can get those nuts out 1st.
m00ks 01-19-2005, 05:21 PM Yes, excuse me, he did fight two good fighters, but he was being outclassed by JMM for about 10 rounds. Your telling me a bigger stronger fighter with a better resume can't do the same. Let's not for MAB also lost to Junior Jones.
You said style makes fights and you throw MAB's loss on the table  . Jones got raped by Morales because the latter was quicker and JJ just didn't move when EM threw those overhand rights galore. He got tagged e-v-e-r-y single time.
morancito 01-19-2005, 06:39 PM Thing is, JMM not only gave "problems" to PacMan, he took him to school for 10 rounds. Marquez soundly outboxed Manny as soon as he figured the Filipino out (around the 3rd. round) Marquez made PacMan look like a one-dimensional fighter, showing off a lot of Manny's flaws in the process. You don't think Morales will watch that video?
m00ks 01-19-2005, 06:50 PM Thing is, JMM not only gave "problems" to PacMan, he took him to school for 10 rounds. Marquez soundly outboxed Manny as soon as he figured the Filipino out (around the 3rd. round) Marquez made PacMan look like a one-dimensional fighter, showing off a lot of Manny's flaws in the process. You don't think Morales will watch that video?
1) Marquez didn't outbox Pac for TEN rounds. You're as bad as Guy Jutras.
2) Manny fought one-dimensional, Pac consistantly trying to finish JMM off with one hand and failed. Should be a different story come the rematch.
3) Morales can watch that fight over and over and over again. He can rewind, fast forward, put it in slow mo but he ain't Marquez and counterpunching ain't exactly teh basis of his style. If Morales bases his training on that last fight, the heck would happen if Manny would use two fists?

thing is, JMM took (as you saw it) 10 rounds to match what manny did in 1 round. he was outboxed alright, that's undeniable, but it is also a fact that counterpunchers usually outbox fighters who comes close and wants to fiight toe-to-toe. that's the maic of counterpunching. alright, erik is going to watch that tape, but do you think he will change his style just because of that? you can't be a power-puncher all your life and then switch styles that quick in 9 weeks... in response to your view as to manny being a 1-dimensional fighter, trying to finish off JMM only with his left, well i can say that that is what you call, "killer instincts"...

1. OK so he outboxed him for 8 rounds out of 10 (after the first 2) I prefer the term "took him to school", because that's exactly what JMM did to Pac.
2. I don't know. Should it?
3. Guess we'll just have to wait for March 19th.
torvix2000 01-19-2005, 08:14 PM I'll repeat this post:
JMM-Pac showed that under the most intense counter fire, Pacquiao will still be able to land a lot of his power punches on his opponent.
Marquez only landed 10 more punches than Pac. If Pac can do that to a "perfect" counter puncher like JMM, then we don't have to wonder why Pac was able to pulverize MAB.
And add this:
Is Marquez a "pigeon puncher" (soft puncher) that Pacquiao just shrugged off his most powerful punches despite getting hit flush on the chin? And not just once but a couple of times?
m00ks 01-19-2005, 08:16 PM 1. OK so he outboxed him for 8 rounds out of 10 (after the first 2) I prefer the term "took him to school", because that's exactly what JMM did to Pac.
2. I don't know. Should it?
3. Guess we'll just have to wait for March 19th.
1) after seeing the fight 9 times, i had it 7-5 for marquez. you could have seen it differently. 10-6 round 1 should have given Pac the win. Everyone keeps getting caught up with the "DRAMA" of the comeback they forget to watch the fight. but some roudns were close, you couls have very well saw it 8-4 no fault.
2) Well when a fighter uses two hands instead of one, you usually get more success.
3) Yes we'll have to.
torvix2000 01-19-2005, 08:18 PM And also add these:
1. What are the punches that really hurt Marquez? Were they the punches that knocked him down?
Answer: Watch the fight again. Even in the first round. The punches that bloodied Marquez's nose were not the ones that knocked him down. They were punches that he was countering and which hit him hard.
2. Is Marquez idea of "thoroughly outboxing" his opponent the same as landing only 10 more punches than his opponent while getting hurt more than he could ever imagine.
AIR_KENG 01-19-2005, 08:22 PM the thing is, manny is to face his most powerful opponent yet in the person of erik so it's quite interesting how manny fairs with a power puncher...
AIR_KENG 01-19-2005, 08:24 PM Power + Power = Boxing History
kadyo 01-19-2005, 08:27 PM Power + Power = Boxing History
Air keng, are you through with the assignment I gave you? Come on I'm dying to give you your grades.
SalvaDominicano 01-19-2005, 08:42 PM idk why u r comparing marquez and morales. two different fighters two different styles. it makes no sense.
{BrownBomber} 01-19-2005, 09:00 PM I think Pacman should secretly hire MAB as a sparring partner.I mean, thats the best sparring partner out there if your getting ready to fight Morales. The crazy thing is,MAB just might do it since he hates EM so much, especially after EM threw a water bottle at his father.Seriously though,if Pac just watched tapes of MAB-EM,he'l realize that the blueprint on how to beat EM with ease is quite simple.
Barrera and Manny have way different talents as a matter of fact Mannys is his left.Barrera has many more talents its just that....that damn left hand equalizes everything. This is the key to the fight. If Morales can stay away from the left and take the left when it lands. If he can its gameover Pacman!
{BrownBomber} 01-19-2005, 09:04 PM And also add these:

I see that he broke his nose when Marquez was down and Manny took a cheap shot when he was down already.
kadyo 01-19-2005, 09:05 PM Correct. Stay away from the left Eric, better yet, don't fight pac at all....hehehe...

U r talking about your pride and joy right?.Cause we all know Morrales can box when he wants to.And he can do it 10 better than your pride and joy.okay so if he would of tried with his right waht would u call that one?

Morales can watch that video a 100 times but he won't learn anything because that's an injured Pac he is watching. Do you really think Pac will go out there and do that "one arm bandit" style? You should know better dude.
JMM took Pacman to school? You are desperately lying. How can that be a draw if what you are saying is true?
Now where is JMM? Hiding? Avoiding that rematch? You're pathetic. Here look at JMM's face
http://www.applepics.com/6/userfiles/41e9c5e96584d.jpg
Pacman gave your JMM a "plus" . . . he used only his right hand for 10 rounds from round 3 to 12.

Stop DREAMING Dude let's deal with reality.
Sister Sledge 01-19-2005, 10:52 PM Sister I am sure you are the expert on nut hugging. If you are so sure that Erik will win perhaps you can put some money where your mouth is...that is if you can get those nuts out 1st.
I bet you would love if I took my nuts out, but I don't swing that way Mr. Gay Foreskins. I don't bet for money, but if you want we can come up with something degrading to put on each others avatars.
SalvaDominicano 01-19-2005, 10:55 PM what if this. what if that. WHAT IF ERIC BEATS MANNY?? i bet half the manny fans here dont ever post again.

torvix2000 01-19-2005, 11:13 PM I see that he broke his nose when Marquez was down and Manny took a cheap shot when he was down already.
See! You don't know WTF you're talking about. The punches that broke JMM's nose were not those who knocked him down.
And Pacquiao was tentative when he fired the shot when Marquez's glove touched the canvas. If it was a full force shot then Marquez wouldn't get up.
Look at the clock. It took JMM 12 seconds in the 3rd knock down.
If Cortez disqualified Pacquiao... then there wouldn't be a rematch because people will say it isn't needed because JMM is a ***** getting virtually knocked out.
Sister Sledge 01-19-2005, 11:25 PM you said it yourself, fighitng styles make the difference.
JMM clearly outboxed M-Pac. You can Debate on how many rounds Pac won, bet there is no debate that he was outboxed. Morales is a very good boxer and you can't just base his style on his fights with MAB. Erik is also a better fighter than JMM with a much better chin, who also hits harder. Morales is not slow and JMM is no speed demon. I'm not taking anything away from
M-Pac, but MAB has lost to a few fighters who were really elite. Just because Manny beat Barerra doesn't mean he is an elite fighter. Does he hit hard? Hell yeah! So could Junior Jones. But he didn't beat JMM and was clearly outboxed. I understand he is a fellow filipina, but before you annoint him god, let's see if he can perform another miracle

Sister Sledge 01-19-2005, 11:29 PM MAB? Are you halucinating friend? :D that's right officially DAMN ref Cole called that slip a K.D. but right there on that night during the course of the fight the panelist reviewed that segment over and over again and right there they declared that a Ref's mis call. Including that KD that Pac dealt MAB which again the ref called a slip. :D Common man let's deal with reality. Watch that fight over and over again watch that first round incident and listen to the panelist while that thing is being replayed in a slomo. :p
I know he slipped, but are you telling me he has a great chin. Do some research and watch Manny go down and then tell me how great he is.

Sister Sledge 01-20-2005, 01:26 AM Define an elite fighter.
The best or most skilled. A superior fighter. He didn't prove that he was better than JMM and he hasn't even cleaned out his division, so how can one ascend themselves to elite status with only one good win? I don't even like Morales but nuthuggers make me more sick than El Terrible.
torvix2000 01-20-2005, 02:27 AM I know he slipped, but are you telling me he has a great chin. Do some research and watch Manny go down and then tell me how great he is.
You are a moronically stupid person. When somebody corrected you saying that Pac slipped... you agreed immediately coz you don't know ****.
Why don't you watch the fight again so that you can find out that MAB tripped Pac by stepping on his foot.
chito 01-20-2005, 04:04 AM Thing is, JMM not only gave "problems" to PacMan, he took him to school for 10 rounds. AND PAC WILL WATCH MORALES FIGHT VIDEO, TOO, THE ONE WITH BARRERA OUTPOINTING HIM. well, that's just the case, they're both going to study each other. although i think morales has the edge here, im still hoping pacman could make the difference because of pac's quickness and punching power!
psychopath 01-20-2005, 04:53 AM I know he slipped, but are you telling me he has a great chin. Do some research and watch Manny go down and then tell me how great he is.
Well you do the researching buddy. Obviously you don't know Pacquiao and you don't know what you are talking about :p I'm I telling you that he has a great chin? Did you see that in my post? Pacquiao might not have the best chin but he doesn't have a "glass chin either". Watch how Pacquiao absorb the best punches that MAB and JMM had to offer, doesn't it show that the guy have a decent chin otherwise you'll be telling me that both MAB and JMM doesn't have power at all. Now if you are reffering to the guy's earlier KDs . . . how long ago was that? For your info after he lost his belt in Thailand due to weight problem he demolished and sent 12 of his last 14 opponents to the canvas with that fight with dirty Sanchez and JMM ending in controversial draws. :) Actually he sent 13 to the canvas that includes JMM, MAB, LUCERO and LEBWADA.
Now before you post something make sure you know what you are talking about . . . buddy. :D Who needs to do a research?
psychopath 01-20-2005, 08:36 AM what if this. what if that. WHAT IF ERIC BEATS MANNY?? i bet half the manny fans here dont ever post again.

You can bet your ASS, win or lose all these Pac fans will still be here . . . now you want a bet? Just confirm it buddy. :D
enegue 01-20-2005, 08:50 AM No matter what all of you people here say, it will surely be a fight to remember! Let's just wait and see.
Verbl_Kint 01-20-2005, 08:52 AM It should not be overlooked that Morales does have a good and steady jab that he can rely on, if he chooses to that is. I'm pretty sure his trainer will hammer this point into his skull. The consequences would be dire if he chose not to use it.
SalvaDominicano 01-20-2005, 10:17 AM Yeah right what IF . .IF . . IF . . . you don't argue based on your dreams or halucinations :D you can say that to brown bomber.

Hey *****, how can you say I don't know ****? Because I don't agree with some of the things some people say. I have an opinion and it's that Pac doesn't have a great chin. How am I moronically stupid? Saying that just makes you sound ignorant, which you probably are.

I never said that you said he has a great chin, and I never said he has a glass chin. What I am saying is that he knocked out a bunch of ham and eggers. Sure he knocked out MAB, sure he knocked down JMM. But he was also outclassed by JMM after the first round. OUTSKILLED! You guys are downplaying Morales just because you want Pac to win and you are basing your decision that Pac will win solely on the Barerra-Morales fight. The Barerra-Morales fight wasn't even about boxing. It was about defending your turf and representing your people and your name. This fight is a totally different situation. It's not personal this time. Erik Morales is a very talented fighter, more talented than Manny. Manny is a quick fighter with a big punch, but what's going to happen when Erick doesn't go down? I don't know if Pac can last if he has to go to war with Morales, and he definately can't outbox him, so were just going to have to wait and see. Either way, I think Manny is a very good fighter, but Erik is a great fighter and that will be the difference in the fight. Good luck to them both. It should be a great fight
AIR_KENG 01-20-2005, 09:25 PM JMM clearly outboxed M-Pac. You can Debate on how many rounds Pac won, bet there is no debate that he was outboxed. so you're saying that barrera was TKO'd by a very cheap fighter? then that means he is as cheap too... you can't be an "elite' fighter and be TKO'd, or outboxed by such a cheap fighter... and i have told this before: i admit that JMM outboxed manny, i am not going to deny that... because he outboxed manny by only ten punches... come on! there's no significant difference...
AIR_KENG 01-20-2005, 09:29 PM The best or most skilled. A superior fighter. huh? you are considering erik and your beloved MAB elite fighters, but i'm going to throw your quesiton back to you, have they sweeped their divisions yet? MAB is avoiding JMM, erik is not going to face JMM, manny has beaten MAB, will have a possible rematch with JMM (i hope), and will be fighting erik. he's not going to fight threeof the best in that division if he was not among the best too. and who are you calling nuthuggers? you are the nuthugger, defending MAB like his d**k was your life...

you are also downplaying manny because you want erik to win badly... and you now what manny can do... best killer punch in the business... discrediting manny is just not suited for his reputation...
Sister Sledge 01-20-2005, 09:37 PM so you're saying that barrera was TKO'd by a very cheap fighter? then that means he is as cheap too... you can't be an "elite' fighter and be TKO'd, or outboxed by such a cheap fighter... and i have told this before: i admit that JMM outboxed manny, i am not going to deny that... because he outboxed manny by only ten punches... come on! there's no significant difference...
Look, Manny is not a cheap fighter, he's very good. He just hasn't proven himself to be an elite fighter. The difference between him and JMM is ring generalship. Marquez has more ring generalship than Manny. It doesn't matter how many punches you landed, it's how you control the fight.
MAB is an elite fighter, but he just doesn't match up well with some people, and his chin has been reached.
ELPacman 01-20-2005, 09:41 PM Freddy Roach said Manny suffered a fracture in his left hand during the the fight with JMM which effected his performance badly. I'll believe him since he hasn't read all this forum nonsense to need to make up an excuse. There you have it, that is why Manny couldn't put away or perform as he does vs every other boxer he's faced. This is why JMM stayed away from the fire because he knew he'd get burned in the rematch.
Sister Sledge 01-20-2005, 09:47 PM you are also downplaying manny because you want erik to win badly... and you now what manny can do... best killer punch in the business... discrediting manny is just not suited for his reputation...
I'm not discrediting Manny, I'm just not gonna put him on a pedestal just yet. I'm not even a Morales fan. I just think that this will be Manny's toughest fight; tougher than the JMM fight. If he wins, I'll give him all the credit in the world.

JMM: counter puncher. Manny: toe-to-toe fighter... counterpuchers usually have better ring generalship becaus they only strike when they want to... and what do you mean landed punches do not count that much? the term "outbox" is directly related to punches landed... so it shows that manny wasn't left behind that much... considering a counterpuncher in JMM...
AIR_KENG 01-20-2005, 10:17 PM I'm not discrediting Manny, I'm just not gonna put him on a pedestal just yet. I'm not even a Morales fan. I just think that this will be Manny's toughest fight; tougher than the JMM fight. If he wins, I'll give him all the credit in the world.
i agree, toughest fight on paper, but i won't say this is tougher a fight for manny that with JMM... JMM is still the toughest for manny and will always be... but if ever manny loses to erik, only then would i change my mind, hehe... but i doubt it...
Sister Sledge 01-20-2005, 10:21 PM i agree, toughest fight on paper, but i won't say this is tougher a fight for manny that with JMM... JMM is still the toughest for manny and will always be... but if ever manny loses to erik, only then would i change my mind, hehe... but i doubt it...
Hey man. At least we agree to disagree.
AIR_KENG 01-20-2005, 10:37 PM Hey man. At least we agree to disagree.
yeah, right on...
psychopath 01-20-2005, 10:41 PM I never said that you said he has a great chin, and I never said he has a glass chin.
There you go Bro . . . now we are in a sensible arguement. That's how I like it.
I can't speak for all Pac fans, I can only speak for myself. I'm a MAB fan too and have a great respect for Eric for being the man. Now this is my take on the issue.
I'm not down playing Eric or the guy's skills, capabilities and accomplishments . . . it's just that I have seen Pac come from the scratch up to his present level and I've seen him step up and accomplish what he needs to accomplish in all his big fights. The guy at 26 is just starting to peak and always shows improvement evrytime he climbs the ring. As to Erik he has been a p4p fighter long before Pac came into the picture but his performance for the last two years is not really that impressive (at least in my eyes), reason why despite this fight being a 50/50 fight for both I'm picking Pac to make it.
It's going to be a very explosive fight which can go both ways.
May the best man win! ;)
JaNnO 01-20-2005, 10:45 PM pacman is a cut above the rest...he will win this fight. if pacman wins this fight, there's no shame on erik for losing to a great fighter. it can be said vice-versa.
SalvaDominicano 01-21-2005, 03:02 AM All I know is IF Pac KOs Morales, cheech will be the first guy getting the bashing from me.

Because you said that you knew that Pac slipped while all the while he didn't. He was tripped by MAB. MAB stepped on Pac's foot.
This is how moronically stupid you are.
1. First you said that he got knocked down by MAB.
2. Then somebody corrected you by saying that Pac slipped.

no,no,no we are not ganging up on you. Morales is a good fighter of course and we will find out how good he is after march 19. Just kindly refrain from trash talk so you won't be trash talked in return. Peace bro sister! :D
czars_salad 01-24-2005, 02:47 AM U know what i think
Pacquiao will start attackin rite away and that will shock erik like in tha barrera fight then he'll get frustrated cuz pacmans a southpaw, erik's gonna have a long night.
he has been doing this ever since when he started on "Blow by Blow" and the result will also be the same... Morales' face will be destroyed to the ground, his team will be needing a stretcher to carry him out of the ring when he will be knocked out in the first round.
czars_salad 01-24-2005, 03:09 AM [QUOTE=air_keng]Pro’s and Con’s: The Destroyer versus El Terrible
QUOTE]
CHIN: Morales, more than his ringmanship skills, is known for his chin. For all I know he was never downed before, not the least shaken his legs. Pacquiao's loses were both knockouts; but of course he was still starting then.
Advantage: Morales
CROWD: Pacquiao will be fighting on foreign land, again. Morales, though a Mexican fighter, is well-loved by Americans and undoubtly have more fans there. Crowd support is also a factor in uplifting an athlete's confidence.
Advantage: Morales
It seems like Morales has more advantages than Manny. Yet Manny is used to fighting is this condition where he is the underdog. He likes to be like this. Manny wants to fight without a monkey on his back and with all the expectations on him, Morales will be fighting with more pressure. He lost in his previous fight and he can't lose one fight after the other. Manny will be fighting loose while Morales will be there tight. Morales, in this fight, has everything to lose, while Manny has everything to gain.
I believe that the outcome of this fight will not depend on Manny for we all know he will be there... and he will be there to win. Eric's fate lies on this fight. After losing from a very emotional, heavily-contested championship match, recovery could be hard.
Remember Roy Jones, jr.?

My other wish is for Morales himself to fight Manny so he won't tell us its not me!

It's all good. I'm not knocking Pac, but six pounds is a lot of weight for a little guy, Morales is the bigger fighter and he hits harder than MAB or JMM. Pac is the smaller guy. I know Morales can take Pac's power, but I don't know if Pac can take Erik's power. We shall see

when pacquiao fought barrera my initial reaction was barrera's too good for pacquiao but i was wrong and look what happened, barrera was demolished! so this time i won't make the same mistake again and will say... morales has never fought anyone as strong as pacquiao. i will be very firm with my prediction now, pacquiao by ko round 7.

Morales

AIR_KENG 01-25-2005, 03:51 AM [QUOTE=air_keng]Pro’s and Con’s: The Destroyer versus El Terrible
Remember Roy Jones, jr.?
i don't think erik has a distinct advantage with the crowd. if i remember it right, 1/3 of the voting population of the U.S. was composed of filipinos, and manny is also popular to some americans so i guess that isn't really a factor.

it could very well be the best combo, just look at how manny's head jerk! just an answer to so many manny knocking down jmm clips outthere. i am a full blooded manny fan, but i really appreciate counter-punching...

Squall143 02-03-2005, 11:13 PM i just wanna say that Pacman has greater power advantage against El Terrible. Morales never KO MAB in their 3 fights and it is obvious that only the devastating power of pacquiao can bring Barrera on the canvas just like what the Pacman will do to Morales in there March 19 match.

AIR_KENG 03-03-2005, 12:32 AM Pro’s and Con’s: The Destroyer versus El Terrible
Since the Manny Pacquiao-Morales Bout is getting closer and closer, I'd like to bring this up again... Any more ideas would be very welcome...
pacmanrulz 03-03-2005, 11:42 AM Pacman will KO Morales! Thats the way I see it!

your thread is graet. except for this part where you're sayin' "he has yet to knock his opponent out with his right (Pacquiao)". maybe we could consider his KO win over Rakkiatgym. it was more of Manny's right that devastated that fighter. it's even right in your signature...
but in general, you got an excellent thread. cheers! :bottle: :) :You_Rock_

Famoso Matador 03-05-2005, 04:16 AM I think that morales has a higher chance of winning this fight than Pacquio does. Marquez was knocked down three times in the first round, but after he watched out for the mannys left hand he outboxed manny. I agree that Morales plan should be not to trade,he should use his reach advantage early on and set the tempo. He should win if he just boxes manny. Not to say that manny doesn't have a chance, im sure a lot of people thought he didnt have a chance against barrera. One punch could change everything.

did Marquez drop or even hurt Pacman? I dont think so...I think Morales will go down! Pacman will win it by 4th round KO or TKO!

EM tried the same thing on MAB. but unfortunately, he failed. its not impossible that Pac will do anything to keep the the brawl in close range. my guess is, it'll be a KO by Pacman in the later rounds. this is coz EM is durable and it'll take time to work the wear and tear by Manny.
eazy_mas 01-12-2006, 02:19 PM I think both have a fair chance.
In this fight i think there will be a different Manny.
He will be more powerful and faster as well as some new tech. he will show.
There is going to be a KO for sure.
As for Morales his style would be the same
dep_violator 01-12-2006, 02:35 PM This is what I think also. Morales with decent power, decent handspeed, decent footwork has to box and stay in the outside. Morales can never stand up to PAC toe to toe, if he does, he will put himself into a world full of pain.
Morales will be the same come Jan 21. There won't be too much surprises there. He will use his jab, use his size and try to box PAC and fight on the outside. I don't see Morales trying to trade or he will feel it bad.
The real surprise will be on PAC's side. They already know what to expect from Morales and what Morales will bring to them. It's up to PAC is he can avoid the jab using lateral movement. It's up to PAC if he can pursue a consistent body attack. Morales at 130 will mean a thinner Morales at the body section. It's up to PAC if he can set Morales up for steady right hooks and flush uppercuts.
If these are the things which PAC can do, then it will be a very different fight for Morales.
eazy_mas 01-12-2006, 02:53 PM Pac should consistainly move around the ring and use the jab more.
Morals is the type of boxer who like to see a fight in front of him like Raheem fight.
He should take advantge of his(Pac)speed wear down Morals with a Jab and some bodypunch and then go for the kill
it depends on what gameplan pac brings into play.. if its the wrong one i see erik outboxing him.. its very close.. i cant wait till i see the fight..
I like morales better than pac, but i hope pac wins so he can battle it out with barrera.. this division is explosive..
