When I was 12 I saw the first Omen film. It scared the **** out of me. Not so much the film, but the music. The operatic or gregorian singing. Couldn't get that music out of my head. I used to be scared going upstairs on my own and going to the toilet.

Easy, The Exorcist
Scariest movie ever made
I don't think I have to tell a little about the movie, since probably everyone on this forum has seen it at least 5 times. It's freaky and scary as hell, movie classic. That and "Saw", It's still in theatres I think, but i bought it on DVD in New York City for like 10 dollars so I got it already :) But yeah, it's not really scary, really suspensul and macabre. Crazy

My kids have completely worn out two VHS copies of Stephen King's "IT". They have seen it hundreds of times and anybody who comes for a sleep-over has to watch.

I agree with the Exorcist as the scariest....even scarier if you read the novel alone as I did many moons ago.

Anything by Cronenberg usually hits the mark.

Videodrome and the Fly remake both stand pretty tall in my childhood memories.

I still love horror movies but it usually takes a plausible premise to hook me in these days. You know? stuff like deliverance or serial killer flicks.

I thought the Dawn of the Dead remake was awesome though. They didn't drop the ball on that one and I'm a big fan of the original. Did you know the fourth film is being shot right now? It's called Land of the Dead, it's long overdue.

IT and Clownhouse

I watched these when I was 9 or 10yrs old and I remember having nightmares for the next couple of weeks after watching them.I haven't watched them since,so they'd probably be a little less scary a decade later(I hope so . :D ).

Halloween series are my favorite in horror movies, But I don't think they are really that scary, entertaining, yes, but not so scary

I agree, they made that movie awesome, only thing i didn't like is they didn't really leave too much to your imagination except the ending. But the exploding heads, and lifelike zombies really made it a great film

...Yeah, my daughter is scared of clowns because our pediatrician dressed like pennywise for halloween. I'm beggining to think he is one sick ****. Of all people to go to the pennywise outfit?? The funny thing is that she had never seen "IT". He freaked her out with the scary teeth and she still talks about it. I didn't go to his office but my wife did and she said he looked the part completely and even did the voice to a T. She will never be a clown fan because of it.

Tod Browning's Freaks (1932) is the scariest movie I've ever seen. I was half doped up on pain medicine, watching at 1 A.M. and the movie used legitimate circus sideshow people. No special effects, just a bad sound track, a grainy people and real circus freak show people with a "sinister" side.

The Omen was freaky, too. I would rate the original Psycho over The Shining. I need to rewatch The Exorcist; it's been awhile.

Its so weird, I've always considered the Exorcist the scariest movie out there (and horror is just about all I watch and read) and I had never been able to watch all of it..I couldnt deal with looking at her face. Just a few weeks ago I forced myself to watch it and it was late at night..my kid was staying the night with her Dad, so I had to go to bed alone afterwards, and for the first time ever it honestly didnt bother me! I'm still in shock over that and dont know what to make of it. I actually watched the whole thing, and kept looking dead in her face (something I never had the guts to do) and it didnt get to me. So as of now I dont really have a "scariest" movie anymore :( I'm kinda disappointed, for real

I was a horror movies freak in my younger days. And the scariest I've watched up to this day is the original HALLOWEEN  starring the young Jamie Lee Curtis and directed by John Carpenter. For me it was a lot more scarier than Linda Blair's Exorcist, which I have seen more than once.

The only thing remotely interesting about the "Halloween" flicks is the street names. John Carpenter lived in Bowling Green, Ky. for a while and so did I.
All of the streets in "Halloween" are streets from Bowling Green.

same here... scared me when i was a teenager, but didn't have the same effect anymore when I saw it again. Even watched it in my basement alone (just because the wife still refuses to see it again), in complete darkness. Salem's lot was good too. Book's even better.... that part where Stephen King was describing the creaking rocking chair on the second floor still freaks the hell out of me.

Absolutely! That was some of Kings better 'early' work! They butchered the entire story with the movie they made..but that is so often the case. :(
