Im fighting in a toughman contest tommrow night. Its 3 1 min rounds with 45 sec breaks. My question is how would u start the fight?? would you pace you self or jam and move the first round.. The guys in these contest are usually not in the greatest of shape. Im fighting super heavy weight and will probally be the lightest guy in it... I was wondering if i should go on the defense the first 30 sec or so of the first round. I fight best inside cause im kinda short for my weight.. Im like 5'10 1/2 at 215. Im best at body/hooks/uppercuts/ inside fighting. Im not in as good of shape as I wanted to be in at this time, I did fight 3 ... 1 min rounds and I did not get winded bad/.. so give me a stratigie.. My boxing trainner wants me to jab/ straight punch and move a bunch the fiirst round and then the next roud throw 4 punch combos the whole round... he say tjhe big guys get gassed the first round... let me know.... Joe I know you are familiar with the WVA toughman contest... the one im fighting in is in canton... its my first fight but I been trainning since august,... Man im nerveous

In my opinion, rather than throwing combinations, for the first round I would have you throw straight punches. Reason being, at these Tough Man bouts the guys usually swing wide, they come out of the corner wild. The first round you want to stay very relaxed, just like you would for any boxing match. Stay on the outside with your hands held high, or the other option would be to stay real close with your head into his shoulder. This way you would be safe from his wide punches. By keeping your head on him (and you keeping relaxed) will frustrate him & make him tired. Also, yes, do use your jab.
By the second round look to throw the right hand & hook to the head after every body shot you deliver. Toughman fights are only 1 minute rounds, so there is not a lot of strategy to be used, & usually no time to use it. Remember, don't try to do too much too soon. Save the best for last. When rounds are few & short, & if it looks like it might be a tie, it is the last round that will get you the win. Look for your opportunities, & don't get nervous. No matter what any fighter tells you, they do get nervous, use this to your advantage. DO NOT FIGHT HIS FIGHT & DO NOT tire yourself out.
Good Luck to you & let us know how you did!

wow....That exactly whats my coch said!! he didnt say any thing about the inside stuff... we have worked a bunch on inside fighhting and everytime we have brought some one off the street into the gym... I have got inside and beat these guys (bad)... They have no idea what to do when you get inside on them and I feel really comfortable in there... I like to get in there and do fast body punches (white wash) then throw hooks and upper cuts off it...then i like to jump back andthrow a traight right ... or upper cut to the body.. Then jump right back in... pin them in the corner... I like to jab my way in ..the throw straight right to the body on my way inside... I have limited boxing experience...probally one year total... My coach says when i get inside on these guys im inviting a fight ( starting a hard fight) but Ouside throwing straight punches ... I get beat some times I knwo these guys are going to come straight at u ...so I think it ould be easy to get inside
