SalvaDominicano 10-03-2004, 02:40 AM hell yeah.. he comes from a place where women give birth to men. i guess he wasnt lying lol NiGe2011 10-03-2004, 03:38 AM I was very impressed by Mayorga- I have always liked his unusual antics and wild style, but tonight I think he really earned the respect of fight fans. He took eight rounds of beating that most would have been unable to stand up to for half of that time- most of the fight spitting some fire in return! ELPacman 10-03-2004, 03:46 AM That's what makes Mayorga great. He only knows one thing. Courage. No matter how bad he can be outboxed or outclassed, he'll keep coming at you. He lacks a lot of the boxing skills though for the entertainment he provides, no loss in respect or to the sport. I really can't wait to see Mayorga fight again.(Hopefully not PPV!). PRboxingfan 10-03-2004, 03:47 AM Mayorga earned my respect throughout the whole fight but more so in the 8th round. After the DEVASTATING body shot he took, he fell over and was spitting blood/saliva at the count of 7 but still got up before 10. He proved he won't take a KO and will make the ref stop it before he quits. He really earned my respect tonight. I thought he had heart but he proved it tonight. Mayorga > anyone 160 and below, including Hopkins, but, obviously, not Trinidad. psychopath 10-03-2004, 05:09 AM If there's anything that should be admired in the guy it's his big fighting heart and conviction. If he could only learn how to control his big mouth I'm sure he will become one of the most sought after fighter of today. neils7147933 10-03-2004, 05:19 AM Micky Ward had his biggest paydays at a time where he had 10+ losses on his record. The way Mayorga fights, he will sometimes lose. He didn't lose any fans tonight though; he probably gaines some who didn't like him before his performance. He's still one of the best at 147 - I hope he goes down in weight. tayloure 10-03-2004, 06:19 AM IMO he should drop weight where he could be competive again. 154 is a good weight IMO. But respect has to be given to him for fighting Tito not many fighters would have willing to take the risk. Dark Destroyer 10-03-2004, 06:51 AM :) I'm so happy Tito won and i am even more happier that my prediction was correct like many others in such an unpredictable fight BUT i have to say i feel sorry for Mayorga now. I always imagined that when he got beat he'd be down and out but i guess is does really deserve the name "El Matador". He is a true warrior in every sense of the word and i just really hope he moves back down like Yuit says and fights on. He's still one of the most electrifying fighters out there and nobody brings that explosivness to fights that he does. theironone 10-03-2004, 06:59 AM I think Mayorga should drop down to 154, imagine him against Mosley or Winky Wright, I think he knocks out Mosley (he is half shot) and if Wright cant contain him then he get's sparked too although I think he might be too cute, however he does like to brawl now and then to prove himself. If he got drawn into a toe to toe exchange I think Mayorga would win, like someone else stated Ward got some very good paydays at the end of his career and think win or lose Mayorga will always give 100% value for money Dark Destroyer 10-03-2004, 07:09 AM I think Mayorga should drop down to 154, imagine him against Mosley or Winky Wright, I think he knocks out Mosley (he is half shot) and if Wright cant contain him then he get's sparked too although I think he might be too cute, however he does like to brawl now and then to prove himself. Mayorga is his strongest in lower weight divisions, when he fought Eric Mitchell it should have told everone that moving up in weight didn't agree with him at all. No offense to Eric Mitchell as a fighter but he was garbage and if Mayorga would have fought him at welterweight then he would have destroyed him. Mayorga proved his power at welterweight by been the first man to stop Vernon Forrest and if he stopped Vernon at that weight then he could easily stop all other fighters at that weight in my opinion. His weakness is a good boxer and i have to say that i think Winky Wright would be abit too defensive and technical for him. Winky is the master of defensive boxing. EXPLOSIVENESS . . . you've got the perfect words to describe Mayo. ;) comepana 10-03-2004, 02:34 PM What a fight! Mayorga is a true warrior with a hell of a chin and bal...He just never gave up even after that brutal body shot.I would love to see him fight again.DOES anyone knows what were Mayorga post fight comments on Tito? boxer2k5 10-03-2004, 02:53 PM Mayorga earned my respect throughout the whole fight but more so in the 8th round. Mayorga > anyone 160 and below, including Hopkins, but, obviously, not Trinidad. dont get beside yourself hopkins would have a ball with mayaorga and beat him silly and take less hits than tito did it wouldnt even be a slugfest it would be hopkins school mayaorga with ease jermain taylor would break mayaorga as well mayo wouldnt get a hit off because everytime he moves his hands pop jab and taylor is stronger and bigger sturm would prob get koed Memorex 10-03-2004, 03:41 PM ill take mayo against nebody at 147 maybe at 154 too. last nite just let me know that mayo has a heart that nobody can match good fight SalvaDominicano 10-03-2004, 03:43 PM damn comepana whos that girl in ur av? Hurlex 10-03-2004, 03:53 PM mayorga should great hurt and why he may have the best chin in boxing..going that many rounds with a true MW..i mean he's a welterweight!!!...so yeah great warrior..he won more fans then trinidad that night...i say he drops also i have no doubt he can ko zab-cory-margarito..or even fight daniel santos..if santos couldnt drop margarito..mayorga should have no trouble..he shouldnt feel bad he lost...he's gonna get a lot of good fights after this Hurlex 10-03-2004, 03:53 PM mayorga showed great heart*(what i ment to put) jack_the_rippuh 10-03-2004, 04:10 PM Has Sturm ever been down? psychopath 10-03-2004, 08:14 PM Has Sturm ever been down? :D No, never . . . Sturm has a perfect record. . . no loses . . . not until he got ripped off by DLH and Dirty Clown Arum. Now he's got 1 loss. PRboxingfan 10-03-2004, 09:49 PM dont get beside yourself hopkins would have a ball with mayaorga and beat him silly and take less hits than tito did it wouldnt even be a slugfest it would be hopkins school mayaorga with ease jermain taylor would break mayaorga as well mayo wouldnt get a hit off because everytime he moves his hands pop jab and taylor is stronger and bigger sturm would prob get koed Don't get besides yourself. People give Hopkins too much credit sometimes. The person who dismantled Tito was 36, Hopkins looked old against DLH and was losing that fight until he KO'd him. Mayorga hits hard as hell and I think would catch Hopkins a few times in route to KOing him in 9. TheRealist 10-03-2004, 10:02 PM Tito will never KO Hopkins, tito hasnt changed he still fights the same, he looked out of shape for HIS FIGHT WITH MAYORGA. when he entered the ring when he fought hopkins the first time he was good BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BEAT HOPKINS, yea he might have beaten mayorga but mayorga moved from 147 to 160, tito is the same i just dont seeing him beating the much stronger, MUCH BETTER BOXING SKILL more experiance hopkins. hopkins wins TKO 8 muay 10-04-2004, 12:23 AM Goin back to the title of this thread, Mayorga deserves respect for fighting just like the macho man that he truly is although how stupid it is (no offense meant, but that's not the way to fight Tito). Lesser men would've been lying on the canvass already after receiving those devastating combos from Tito as early as the 1st round. He returned Tito's crisp accurate combinations with venomous volleys of his own. He didn't quit even after tremendous amount of punishment. "I'm OK, but my heart is bruised." - Mayorga |
