When you hit the bag or hit the mitts, bite your shirt. That will keep your chin down. Once you get into the habit of keeping your chin tucked, you should be fine.

If you are sparring with taller partners you will notice that you are more prone to lift (expose) your chin. Are you shorter than most of your sparring partners?

Yeah that would explain it. But just try biting your shirt. my cousin Had the same problem, he was small and always seemed to be looking up with his head and not his eyes, he started training while biting his shirt and that seemed to reduce the habit.

No, me and my bro were beating the **** out of eachother, I dropped my chin, left myself wide open.
Southpaw Stinger 01-18-2006, 07:21 PM I often lower my guard during sparring and sometimes matches. I lower them because I can generate a lot more power by holding them near my chest area. It's not that my arms get tired holding them up, it's just that I can't see punches coming as well in I hold them higher.
i get right hand friendly

You can't block what you cant see. You should find a guard that you are comfortable with. One that you can easily block or parry with, while still having visibility of incoming punches. But you should never compromise your gaurd just to get some extra umph behind a punch, that can easily get you countered and floored. Save those heavy punches for when your opponent has compromised his guard. ;)
Manfredo Jr 01-19-2006, 10:37 AM sometyms wen im sparrin and some throws a jab i try to punch there arm which usually will make them miss , i done it with one boy and he had to change stance cos i think i hurt his arm , does any one else do this?
theironone 01-19-2006, 10:46 AM i was short for my weight class (middle im 5"7 - 8) so i used to aim for the throat if they were 2 or 3 inches taller :D

Punching an incoming punch? That leaves you open, doesn't it? I usually parry, that takes energy from the opponent. You should only use enough force to deflect the opponents punch perpendicular to the direction of the punch. I personally don't punch an incoming punch, but hey if it works for you, go for it. I am just very big on conserving energy for those moments that your opponent has become easy prey. :D
In the Trinidad/Winky fight, winky said that by the middle of the fight, his arms were hurting pretty badly because of those hooks that tito was throwing.
