I used to feel the fight of the year was Morales vs Barrera 3 followed by Marquez vs Pacquiao.
But now that I watched Castillo vs Lazcano again i think i make that my number one choice. The first time I watched it i was surrounded by disturbances... but damn what a fight!!!

Hands down it should be Morales vs. Barrera. A close, LEGENDARY battle. Second is Pac vs. JMM. A classic fight. Tito vs. Mayorga was an entertaining one sided ass beating. Good for boxing, but not fight of the year. Castillo vs. Lazcano is ahead of Tito/Mayo, that was kind of a one sided beating too, but extremely entertaining.

I had it Barrera 118-111; so that can't be fight of the year to me - too one-sided. I can't believe the judges decision was that close.
Really, Trinidad-Mayorga wasn't that close, either. Mayorga got a knockdown and maybe another round and that was it.
Pacquaio-Marquez had the controversy, the drama of the comeback, and a Pacman nearly blowing a ridiculous first-round lead on the cards.
My pick was a fight that didn't get much hype but was exciting for 8 rounds and launched a new champion that is just getting started - Jeff Lacy vs. Syd Vanderpool.

That was a great fight! I still consider JMM-Pac one of the best of the year though and can consider Tito-Mayorga in the same catagory if only cause it was Tito's 'come back' fight, and it wasnt against a tomato can..he didnt bother with a warm up but went after a tough, mannerless, street fighting thug. So I have to weigh all those factors into it too, which made it even more exciting. As for Morales-Barrera 3..it was a good fight, but Morales clearly was just not there, not dedicated to the fight enough to make it 'fight of the year' material. If he had been then most likely it would have won that title easily!
