View Full Version : More Stealing from the San Francisco 49ers
BLOODSHED 01-12-2006, 04:49 PM Packers just ripped our offensive coordinator. Lets not forget the team is 4-12 but our coaches are always top notch.
Other ex-49er coaches...
Pete Carroll on USC Trojans
Mike Holmgren on Seattle (1 superbowl)
Steve Mariucci
Jim Mora Jr (Falcons)/Greg Knap (offensive coordinator Falcons)
Mike Shannahan (2 superbowls)
Ray Rhodes on Redskins
Matt Millen GM Lions
Many more coaches I just am drawing blanks.
No wonder 49ers can never rebuild. They keep stealing from us.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers and Mike McCarthy were nearing a deal to make him their next head coach Wednesday night, a person involved in the negotiations told The Associated Press.
The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal was not yet complete, expected the team to finalize an agreement with the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator on Thursday.

McCarthy was the Packers' quarterbacks coach in 1999, working with Brett Favre when the team went 8-8 under Ray Rhodes.
McCarthy, 42, was the New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator from 2000-04 before going to San Francisco. The 49ers finished 4-12 this pasts season.
General manager Ted Thompson fired Mike Sherman Jan. 2 after the Packers' 4-12 season, the team's worst in 15 years.
Thompson also interviewed Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon, New York Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Sean Payton, San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.
Jim Bates, the Packers' current defensive coordinator, spent about four hours interviewing with Thompson on Monday, and said he came away with the impression he was a serious candidate.
But Wednesday night, he told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that Thompson informed him he was out of the running. Bates was not available when The Associated Press called his office for comment.
Earlier, Bates said the Packers aren't that far from becoming a playoff contender again.
"Teams can climb back from the bottom to the top in a year, two years," Bates said Wednesday in a telephone interview from Green Bay. "We can be back there in a hurry. I'm not saying one year or two years, but it won't take long."

Dirt E Gomez 01-12-2006, 04:53 PM Being a packer's fan I seldomly get to catch the west coast 49'ers games anymore, especially since I haven't tried with how abismall they've been. I'm curious as to how he'll run the offense here in Green Bay. Next year with a healthy team and a high draft pick it should be interesting to see what he can do. Anybody is better than Sherman at this point, and I pity anybody who picks him up.
BLOODSHED 01-12-2006, 04:57 PM Packers are in the Cowboys position. They have "legends" they don't want to trade/release because of popularity. Emmitt Smith was smart enough to just leave. Favre needs to follow Smith's example.
Favre's best days have been behind him. They just don't want to deal with him (being their real issue). Don't worry, Lions are in the same position. Mariucci took the heat for that ****** Matt Millen and Harrington. Sherman took the heat like Mariucci. But the problem is STILL there (the QB and management).
Management is why Denny Green will not turn around the Arizona Cardinals.
How the hell are Favre and Harrington still playing with as little pressure to leave?
With that being said, 49ers truly need to lock up their coaching staff.

Dirt E Gomez 01-12-2006, 05:01 PM Nah. No other team would pick up Favre if he left, and at most he'll be around for 1 more year so GB is happy. Favre isn't close to what he used to but his numbers this year don't reflect how good he can be. Our #1 wide reciever was out, our TE was out for a while, and we lost our first 2 runningbacks in back to back games... and even lost our starting FB soon after for a few games and eventually Gado even got injured and loss. The other teams didn't even have to play the run to stop it causign favre to force too many balls.
Rodgers is unproven and untested and I don't have high hopes for him. We can hope that he'll turn out good but starting him over Favre would be crazy at this point since the fans wouldn't put up with essentially (in their eyes) forfeiting the game.

....No other team would pick up Favre if he left?? I beg to differ. He has been off for several years for sure, but teams would definitely gamble on a player like him to still have one more year and a desire to play in a new home. Hell, I would welcome him to the boys if for no other reason than to see one of the top five QB's in the history of the game wearing that star on his helmet.
The Fix 01-12-2006, 11:08 PM 49ers are ass, they should be happy that millen left thats for sure. he ****ed detroit up pretty good.
9ers are going to be just as bad next year.....

BLOODSHED 01-12-2006, 11:27 PM They keep taking our coaches. We make the best coaches.
Compare them to Dallas' coaches. Turner and Wannsted. Two PROVEN LOSERS.
How does Turner keep getting hired?

lol, the niners are still a very young team that will mature. They have some huge holes to fill on the offensive line to give Alex Smith some time to pass and to give Barlow and Gore some lanes to run through. Their receivers are very young and unproven. We'll see what happens

alex smith has bust written all over him, i thought he would make a good pro and maybe its too early to call him a bust but hasnt looked good at all.
BLOODSHED 01-13-2006, 02:43 AM Bill Walsh was a big mouth that got Mariucci and Seifert out of the organization. One thing the old man can do is pick QBs (Montana, Young and even Garcia). I have confidence in him there.
Also, empty your inbox Fix.

It scares me that other people throughout the country don't realize how mediocre Favre is. He is a great quarterback.... but he is also the most overrated player in the league. The Packers should've gotten rid of him 5 years ago for easily a first round draft pick and many more picks/players. His numbers are crappy and he can still put up some W's, but he can't be expected to help the future of any franchise... and any team willing to bee that short sighted deserves to lose.

This makes no sense at all. There are a lot of NFL openings right now and many offensive and defensive coordinators around the league are interviewing for head coaching jobs. The only 2 great coaches on that list are Holmgren and Shannahan. Pete Carroll was a disaster in the NFL and the rest of those names are nothing special. As for the 49ers, I don't see them being a winning team yet again next season.
