Hurlex 10-03-2004, 12:05 AM a lot of mayo haters will say he good wooped and whatever
mayo showed great heart tonight..he gave and took and his chin i dont care if he did go down he was not ko'ed...(ref stopped the fight cuz he thought mayo was getting hit to much)..and he got up...the man does deserve the title of "best chin in boxing"...anyone here could see that after so many rounds of getting hit and giving back also...but he showed something else no one knew..
HEART...he got up from a power shot that would have killed dlh...got up again from a flush hit to the chin that would have ko'ed anyone even hopkins...the guy has heart and showed it..no matter what..he will be around and there is alot of people out there he can beat..just dont fight st MW mayorga..go down and ko the f**k out of zab-cory-margarito and santos cuz if he can go that long with tito and hol his own...he has my respect..and made a fan out of me...respect mayo...and f-anyone that didnt think u could last in there...street fighter..by a good one :D

I couldn't agree more. Props to both fighters! Great night in boxing. I hope Mayo keeps on fighting. It's too bad the ****ing pubs here in Vancouver decided to show the boring Hopkins-DLH fight instead of this PPV. This town is just too ****ing in love with DLH! Everyone just missed out on a classic.
NichtGeflechten 10-03-2004, 01:20 AM Mayorga should have used his brain more and his nutz less, he had a good chance in this fight, you could see it in flashes.
bigsmoothh 10-03-2004, 01:21 AM i feel EXACTLY the same way yall feel, i have mad respect fot mayorga he showed true heart and he also caught tito with some hard shots.
mic573 10-03-2004, 01:22 AM Mayorga showed a great chin but he was rocked quite a few times. His performance was great though.
twospeed99 10-03-2004, 01:32 AM The turning point of the fight was the two freebee left hooks he gave Trinidad, they hurt him, but what a tough nut, by far the toughest SOB I have ever seen. The HBO commentary was bull**** saying he was looking for a reason to quit,**** he had 400 and some reasons to stay down and he didn't.
Hurlex 10-03-2004, 01:38 AM ddduuuuuudddddeeeee...excactly..didnt it seem like hbo crew was on titos nuts...mayorga quit!!!plz...he got up from a body shot that would have made dlh cry...and came at it with everything he had...i think he should have given tito those free shots at the beginnig..either way..yeah i hate the hbo crew for that...mayorga wanted to quit..and to them dlh could have gone on..please i hate that about them....mayorga gained fans..to stand toe to teo with one of the most elite boxers of our era and last that long and go out with glory unlike frietas...i say mayo go down to 154 and ko everyone cuz he can...and didnt it surprise u guys he wasnt as crazy as usual with the hooks..(i know he was a lil) but he kept it down and hanged in there..great job...tito with his punk ass made up eyebrows was stunned sometimes also...mayorga will be around for sometime and will always be more entertaining...tough man...u know what i'll say it..toughest SOB in like the last 10years..i think he passed gatti on heart tonight

Actually, I'd like to see an animated picture of Mayorga taking Trinidad's punches, standing there and asking for more.
That's a hell of alot better.

Dr Cynical 10-03-2004, 01:57 AM Hey is Tito still a *****? Where is Jack_the_***** :D ?
lol I still call him a ***** because I don't like him.
But I give him respect and credit for coming back and seemingly holding his own against Mayorga.
I haven't seen the fight but I have read the posts here and stories and seen the highlights on ESPN.
I am definitely taping it this Saturday.

you will love this fight. Both of them traded power punches...I have to admit that for a few seconds I was a little nervous, but man Tito showed that he has a great chin and still carries mayor power on both hands. hands down fight of the year.Nard must have **** on his pants!!! Is great to see a fight like this specialy after seeing a lame fight as DLH-Nard. :D

lol I agree that Hopkins doesn't want Trinidad.
I bet he REALLY doesn't want Mayorga.
I think that Mayorga would destroy Hopkins.
There isn't a thing that Hopkins can do to take out Mayorga.
If he used alot of defense and ran around the ring he could squeeze out a decision victory.

no way. hopkins would box circles around mayorga. its obvious that mayorga is soft around the gut and hopkins wouldnt have a hard time getting there.

Mayorga would take it and give Hopkins something to really hide from.
Btw, what is with you only showing up to reply to my posts?
I never see you anywhere else.
When you do come on, it's always to reply to something that I posted.
Do you have a crush on me?
SalvaDominicano 10-03-2004, 02:35 AM i didnt even realize it was u. i guess i never agree with anything u say. and what would hopkins hide from? hes been hit by tito and what? he knocked tito out. whats so different about mayo besides the fact that he CANT box. btw i was rootin for mayorga cuz he was an exciting fighter but now hes one of my faves. u saw the way he got up from the first count? 8.. 9.. and he beat 10. i was like.. :-0 hes got some major heart..

Hopkins is known for ducking real middleweights.
He goes after smaller guys who haven't had the time to adjust.
He's nothing but a coward.
I think Mayorga has the power to take him out and the chin to weather whatever Hopkins hits him with.
oldgringo 10-03-2004, 03:13 AM Cynical I think your wrong here...Hop would slowly destroy Mayorga and possibly end his career. Funny how Hopkins still gets no love despite all of his accomplishments...its always just "he only fights blown up fighters." I think he'd crush Mayorga but whatever I respect your opinion.

Well if he would stop being such a ***** and fight real threats and/or move up in weight, I'd probably give him a sliver of credit.
But he won't so he stays a coward in my eyes.
I doubt Hopkins would be able to.
Mayorga's got quite a chin and Hopkins doesn't have as much power as people say he does.
Either way, I will always cheer for and bet on my favorite fighters no matter what.

You have to wonder if Mayorga will be the same after his fight against Trinidad. Maybe his career is on the downside as I write.
tracylee 10-03-2004, 11:23 AM i feel EXACTLY the same way yall feel, i have mad respect fot mayorga he showed true heart and he also caught tito with some hard shots.
Yeah he caught Tito, but did you see how well Tito took those shot's? Mayorga did show alot of heart and he is tough, I'll not take that from him. BUT, he was so completely outclassed and I dont think he even knew it till way too late. Standing there inviting Forrest to punch you in the face is one thing; inviting Tito to do it is suicide. Mayorga was not prepared to fight someone with BOTH alot of talent and power. But he did take alot of big shot's and cant be called weak, that's for sure!

"holding his own"? Tito handed him his ass in a way its never been handed to him before. Punk ass? No way; say what you will but til you watch the "schooling" Tito did on him, you havent seen anything; let alone the best fight of the year.

grayfist 10-03-2004, 11:33 AM  I thought Tito was going down with the first punch (any disguised as decent) Mayorga hits him with?!? He's not supposed to have a chin!!! I suppose everyone forgot to tell him...?!! ;)

I've been saying Tito's chin is a hell of alot better at 160 than at 147.

Apparently so! Between that fight and the Lacy-Vanderpool fight, it was a great night of boxing! One of the best I've sit through in a long time :) (Oh, the Simms-McKart wasnt half bad either) A very good night of boxing!!!

"Nard must have **** on his pants"... WHAT?? You can't be serious. Nard is one of the best boxers of this era, Nard would outbox and destroy Ricardo "no skills" Mayorga and I don't think Tito wants to fight Nard one more time.
DLH-Nard= Great fight. Do you only enjoy boxing when it's a WAR. Don't you appreciate "great", "smart" fighters like Hop and DLH??

Oh yeah, I was very pleased with my night of boxing. I was up til almost 4am watching; I got lucky with the timing. The ppv went off at 11:45 and then Showtime WEST showed theirs at 12:00, so I even got a 15 min. break between action. You'll love some of those other fight's...some real wars! :)

WHY?? Nard has already beaten Tito. Do you really think Tito is a better fighter nowadays??
Hahahahahaha.....Please tell me this is a joke??
Mayorga would NOT destroy Hopkins. I can't believe that some people actually think Mayorga could beat "the one and only BERNARD HOPKINS". Is it beacause he has a great chin and heart??
Nard is a complete fighter, a fighter who can adjust to any style. When it comes to skills Nard kills Mayorga, and he's also a very strong and smart fighter. Nard would probably end Mayorga's career.

I agree completely. As tough, crazy and strong as Mayorga is, he lacks one very essential quality...SKILL. I'm not "dissing" him, just pointing out what is so obvious, and what Tito really exposed last night. Caught a good glimpse of it against Spinks, but against Tito all he had was heart and a fantastic chin along with that powerful right.
semjasa 10-03-2004, 12:12 PM I agree with Tracy, he is a real throw back fighter, but lacks the finesse of a top level boxer, hell of a fighter though....

Well, it was a 'given' no matter what. 2 judges from NY, and one from NJ, and a fighter that no one has ever heard of before (more of less) it went about half a round with 3 (I think) knockdowns...and guess what!!! Judah won; and had the guts to celebrate this so called "victory" after it was over. What little respect I had for him (which was none, I admit) I lost last night. Just my opinion; I'm SURE his fans will disagree!

Mayorga's a loser. His smoking and not traning hard showed in this fight and he got his ass beat. And how can you say those shots wouldve taken out Hopkins??? When have we seen a shot take out Hopkins?
I'm soo happy Tito whooped his ASSSS

Yeah, Hopkins is a lot harder to KO than Trinidad. So I don't get where that comes from? If you're going to speculate something that rediculous then please back it up with a reason or an example.

Both? Mayweather? :)
Hurlex 10-03-2004, 12:44 PM the thing here is no one is talking about tito...cuz he didnt do anything big...they gave him a man that was a welterweight...i mean everyone is respecting mayorga to the fullest for staying in there..he deserves the respect... tito doesnt..i mean mayorga skpped 2 weight classes to fight him and clearly couldnt handle the weight..and was in there with one of the besst of the era for his MW dabute..we all knew his style was not the best for tito..but that simple fact he took shot and gave them for that many round is amazing...
i dont think tito as done anything to make nard nervous...tito would have had to beat winky or j.taylor for nard to even go "hey he's back"..right now benard know tito has not proved anything except a true welterweight with heart and pride took him into the late rounds...so dont listen to the hbo crew just yet with the tito ball licking :D ....all tito did las night was make a lot of mayorga fans..he needs to fight winky or j.taylor now..to prove he's ready for nard
and mayorga has a great career ahead of him if he wants..this guys has lost before and never let it get to him..he was right out there again ko'ing people...he will go down in weight to L.middle or welter and dominate cuz with a little help he can

Okay, THIS is what I was waiting for!!! For the past 3 week's all the Mayorga fan's have been posting that Mayorga would KILL Tito, make him re-retire, make him wish he'd stayed retired, etc...how can you come back now with the size difference?
Hurlex 10-03-2004, 12:47 PM dont get me wrong i want tito/hopkins more then anyone..but still i think at this point it would be a boring replay of the first one...i think i'll keep on with mayorga(way more exciting fighter)...umm mayo vs hopkins???as much as i would love it..i think nard would be to much...this is not the same mayo at welter were he would never tire..at MW he's not as fast and his stamina is not as good he should go down to 154...but would mind seeing how hopkins would handle a guy like him

I said from the get go that there was no way Mayo was going to beat Tito. The possibility just didn't exist in my eyes. I said it a long time ago that the jump in weight would cause Mayo to lose power and stamina. As for the rematch with B-Hop your damn straight Tito knocks B-Hop out within 9 rounds. Hopkins has been way to cautious in his last couple of fights and that will cost him against Trinidad and his new found jab. Trinidad isn't the best boxer by far, he isn't the fastest or the most fleet of foot, but I'll put my money on Tito's left hook before I put money on that ****** DLH's pity pat style of boxing anyday of the week.
Say what you will I think Tito wouldn't have beaten Hopkins in an immediate rematch. But Hopkins has gotten old and Trinidad is going to put the old man on his back. if the fight happens there will be approx. 6 months before the fight comes off this isn't going to help Bernard one bit. But it sure as hell will give tito more time to get back into the swing of things.
Hurlex 10-03-2004, 01:12 PM i would love for tito to ko nard..but i dont know if he's ready...if he beats the man that ko'ed dlh (had him on the floor for a minute a 5seconds)...then he would be known as one of the best i think..seriously if he does beat hopkins will that make him better then W.Benitez to puert ricans? or what about his legacy..damn alot is riding versus a hop rematch
Tha Greatest 10-03-2004, 01:17 PM trinidad is a waste of hopkins's time
he should fight like sturm or tarver or somethin first
ooo i forgot he said he wants to have 5-6 more fights he might as well make tito retire again but i REALLY want a rematch with oscar de la hoya and watch tha golden boy beat his ass for tha whole fight
grayfist 10-03-2004, 01:24 PM Trinidad has just "come back". To stack him up against Hopkins after one "helluva fight" is premature hopes gone awry. But, on the other hand, to denegrate/dismiss his performance for the reason that he faced only a Mayorga who is not quite a middleweight? Well, those who do may find some valid reason other than hate; nonetheless, Tito did what most others on the comeback trail didn't and wouldn't: he faced a Mayorga; somebody who well into the time that they both entered the ring was judged by many as the man to abbreviate Tito's comeback bid, and not a nobody who is a faint somebody only to the most religious boxing researchers. Mayorga is the only recognizable figure (however one may figure such a figure) that any "comeback" former great, near-great and would-have-been-great has ever faced in the recent past.
Hurlex 10-03-2004, 01:24 PM how is oscar not a waste of time he was out for more then a minute..now bernard knows what to do..take him into late rounds and attack the body hard...besides if u have not notice.dlh has not said he wants a rematch
Explosivo 10-03-2004, 01:31 PM Man I couldnt agree more with this. Mayorga looked like a mad man last night. If anyone else was hit with those bomba from Trinidad they would have went down. I was saying to my friends during the fight that this guy must have sold his sole to the devil or something to be able to take punishment like that and continue to have the power that he had in his punches. Lasts nights fight was like a battle between good and evil with Trinidad as the good guy. It was a great fight and I have a lot of respect for Mayo now after watching him fight like the true warrior that he is. Im glad Tito won. GREAT FIGHT!!!
borikua 10-03-2004, 02:28 PM DLH-Nard= Great fight. Do you only enjoy boxing when it's a WAR. Don't you appreciate "great", "smart" fighters like Hop and DLH??
WTF are you crazy, would you pay again to see a lame fight like DLH-Nard please...BTW I got a ? for you guys I'm from PR and the trasmition (i don't know if that is the right word) of the fight was suposed to be HBO PPV, but we got ****in Kingvision???No HBO commentators and instead of pounds and inches the put Kg and another metric **** like centimeters...wtf was that...I hope the the reply is from with the HBO commentators, I just love to see the crazy ass Merchant...
Hurlex 10-03-2004, 03:50 PM tito has great fight ahead...with taylor/nard/sturm..whcih ever he picks will probably be boring..but not as boring as dlh/hop
mayorga will go down an hopefully make a big money fight against margarito which hella people wanna see...i think he can ko just about anyone at welter or L.Middle if he works hard just stay away from MW(he's not good at this weight but can last)...
point is there are a lot of great fights to come..no one wants another 60 dollar fight of crap and boring stuff...i say atleast put dlh with mayorga if anything...mayo will make it exciting he may lose but still i can't handle another dlh/hop fight
so i wonder were tito goes from here

Yeah, I would most definitely pay again to see a fight like DLH vs NARD.
I thought it was a great fight, and Nard did exactly what I expected him to do

Mayorga is to boxing what New Jack, Sandman, Mick Foley, or Supreme is to pro wrestling. Some "purists" will say they don't belong in the same league as those who fight on a technical level, but the average fan actually often likes them more. And as a fan of both, I definitely have a soft spot for the guys who go out and lay it all on the line, even if they don't defend well or box the way they teach you when you go to the gym to learn the sport. I'll watch Mayorga til he retires.
slickhook 01-15-2005, 01:46 AM Foley doesn't smoke
Floydmayweather 01-15-2005, 03:48 AM If Mayorga learned how to technically box at all and would quite the damn smoking he would be a killer. He is still a good fighter but his behaviors are catching up with him. He is also the toughest son of a ***** i've ever seen.
Sue_B 01-15-2005, 11:04 AM mayorga tried with all his heart, tito was just 2 big. :(
