Being tired is not depression. Depression is breaking your right hand punching your concrete basement wall because your girlfriend left you. Believe me, depression is a funny topic until you become depressed. You'll find its no laughing matter.

Everyone gets bummed-out.
Depression is a whole other story.
Truly depressed people can have everything going smoothly, yet still feel miserable.

It's January (like Dodge said)....& it's the ****tiest month of the year.
Has me a little bummed.

The winter always makes me depressed. Even when there is no real reason to be depressed. It gets dark at 4:30 PM, it's always cold, I tend to gain weight because I don't leave the house. It bums me out alot. The winter and isolation are the worst things in the world. Isolation breeds hatred, paranoia, all sorts of craziness. You start to think that your closest peoples are against you, that they pray on your downfall. You just become engulfed in hatred, and hatred becomes your best friend. You use hatred as a crutch, like "**** everyone, I'm the bad guy." It gets crazy during the winter.

Y'all need some serious meds, my wife is a manic depressive,
bi-polar - she deals with it as I have to do as well. If you live with someone who has a serious condition like that, it affects everyone around the person with the imbalance.

Nothing anyone can say will help a true bi-polar, or manic depressive which ever you choose to call it. Don't waste your time.

But what gets me is the person who started this thread wants some sympathy on just their second post - garbage I say!

Again, I find it ironic that a person would sign into a website full of people who like to watch other people get beat up - and look for some sympathy right out of the gate!

I am not one to act on my own advise, I am still trying to overcome many issues myself. I will not post any of them in a public forum. But....

Pills did help for the short term then they made it worse. I drink once in a while, but that can also work against it too. KGB helps, but then again, too much can throw you back. I found the best thing for it is Excersise. Really! I am not saying take your anger out on a heavybag (unless your angry as well).

When you get depressed it is do to thinking to much into something. Get yourself so exausted from a rigorous workout that all you dwell on is sleep. Going else where for sex (if your married) helps a bit too, but then you get that guilty feeling. That is hard to overcome (if you are a considerate person) PM me if you care to talk dude.

Drinking is one way not to deal with depression.
Yeah....it feels good to do it....catching a buzz while out with your people. But, the after effects will leave you in an even darker place than you'd have been in without it.

Have you ever tried meditation? I don't mean to get all new-agey, but it really helps me clear my head of all those unwanted thoughts that build up after a frustrating work day. Almost everyone suffers from some kind of depression these days, even if they don't know it or won't admit it.

Problem is I get lazy about it and don't do it enough, but if you want I can post a short description of what I do here to get you going.

So many are bummed these days because consumerism, with advertising /media doing its dirty work, makes you believe your worth as a human is based on what you have.

You feel like a jerk-off loser because your T.V. is not in high-def....because you have just one car...because your neighbor slapped an addition onto his house & you aren't ready to do the same...because you don't have six-pack abs....because you're not young, or famous, or drop-dead beautiful.

Okay, I'll try to explain how I meditate as best as I can. Now, keep in mind that this is a technique that works for me. I've read a lot about the subject and tried to work out something that I liked. You might find that something here doesn't suit you very well, but that's okay, because there are a lot of different ways to meditate. I've tried to keep my routine simple and straightforward, without too much new-agey mumbo-jumbo. This is actually the way that meditation first started...the mumbo-jumbo came later.

1. First thing you have to do is a place to sit that's comfortable and where you'll be facing a plain wall of other surface. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to meditate with your eyes closed. Many people at least start with their eyes open (they'll probably close on their own later. More on that below). Don't worry if there are other distractions in the place where you are meditating, like traffic or other noises. Think of them as challeneges to your concentration that you will have to overcome. They can actually make you improve your concentration more quickly.

2. Sit cross-legged. I can't do that thing where I put my feet on my legs, though supposedly that's the ideal. Don't think it matters all that much, though. Make sure your back is straight. Cup one hand in the other and hold them in your lap.

3. Look down so your eyelids hang low, though keep your gaze high enough so that you can see your plain surface.

4. Now, start breathing slowly. Inhale slowly, hold it for a bit, then exhale. Count up to 10 each time you exhale, then count from 10 down to 1, then count back up to 10, etc. The key here is to focus on the actions you're performing and the sensations you feel when you breathe. You're supposed to focus here on the present moment, on the actions of breathing, and block out every other thought and feeling. This is obviously hard to do, but the longer you work at it the better you will get at it.

You will always be thinking and feeling things...in fact meditation will heighten your awareness of what's going on in your mind. The key is not to be "led" around by these thoughts. So if you suddenly remember that you have to wash the dishes, or something, just note that you thought this, and let it go. It can be hard, of course. I have a few techniques here that might help. First of all, I make a point of exhaling loudly, so it's easier to pay attention to my breathing and block out other thoughts. Second of all, really pay attention to the contrast between the simplicity and elegance of the act of breathing and the clutter that's going on in your mind. You'll realize that you're capable of simple, trouble-free actions, and that you can breathe slowly and be calm, despite what your mind may sometimes tell you.

As you progress through one session, you'll find that you'll breathe more slowly and that distracting thoughts will start to disappear. You'll probably start to get really tired and your eyes will want to close. Let them. You might even feel like you're falling asleep. This is okay, but make sure you keep counting your breaths to keep yourself somewhat conscious.

5. Meditate like this for at least 10 minutes a day twice a day. The more the better, of course. Sometimes in a sessions after a while I'll feel like I've suddenly woken up from a long sleep. I take that awake feeling to mean that I am finished with that particular session.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

I base my happiness on the quality of the people I have around me.
I have a wide range of friends (family memebers who I count as friends also).....& someone is always there if I'm looking for something to do.
Doesn't take much to make me happy.

Good stuff. I'm just happy being home with my wife and reading a book on history. Thing is I gotta spend 8 ours a day at work in a place where I have nothing in common with anybody and they all annoy the hell out of me, and that wears on ya after a while.

Do what you can in between the two dates
And live your life like you'll die tommorow
Everyone dies, sure, but its what you do before
You die that everyone will remember.
