Me On The Bag..... (http://media.putfile.com/Boxing-Bag69)

Ok, people i did this all today and rushed it all through. I hope you enjoy it.

Rate or hate. Either way i know some of my weaknesses just by looking over the video, but you can still critisize me if you will, and hopefully i will learn from what you say.

Btw, i went out last night and got drunk then jogged home about 7 miles so i was a bit tired today, and my legs lost stamina really early. As a result some of my technique and balance suffered. But here is some of what i can do.

Pardon the quality, i recorded on a phone haha.

Erm, i walk around just above 10 stone. I know you dont use these units, unless you're in the UK.

I think that is around 60kg? possibly.

Does that help? :o

The reason i posted it is because i spoke to a good friend of mine on here the other day, and he said to me "what? you actually box??" and i was so surprised to hear him say that, as i have known him for ages...

Also, i wanted to show people my skills, and proove that im not on this site for no reason. Im not a keyboard warrior in other terms, i do actually get out and box, even though admittedly i havent boxed for long and i dont know as much as the rest of the guys on here...

Hey wassup dan, yeah like i said, i was aware of the shit i done wrong, occasionally i was off balance i dunno if you saw that?

I did it at my cousins house (as you can see its indoors), and i recorded on my phone thats why the quality is shit. I then had to get it on my comp, convert the file, edit the clips and make it one big "movie" then upload it. It took me about an hour to do all that :)

Yeah, in the room i was in it was a bit cramped. If i was doing it at my club, i can honestly tell you that i move around the bag loads. Im always moving and jabbing, and head movement is definetly something i need to work on, but like the foot movement it was because of the room. There was a bed directly behind me and stuff...

Yeah, i try and spend every session at my club working on something i know i am weak at, and have found it has helped me really improve quicker than everyone else pretty much. For instance i might spend the whole hour working around basic footwork and come out knowing that i am in a habit of good footwork to properly keep my feet planted, my balance nice, and my power tip top.

Thanks for the feedback chris cov. Karma coming your way.

Yeah, i got loads of stick for posting my pic, but really when i think about it all, it makes no difference because this is a message board and i am trying to not get worked up about people provoking me... so thats why i just decided to do the vid and see what happens. I would be interested in seeing anyone else's video's, and would encourage people to do them. I think you can learn a lot from watching yourself. Boxer2k5 used to post his sparring sessions up and people would give him a few tips here and there. After all this is what the section is for, right? :) :boxing:

i think you do a lot off classic fouls on the bag like no guard, hands to slow back in guard, little footwork, standing straight instead of crouched.

bit sloppy(i should know i also tend to fight the bag like its a bag and not like it was an oponent)

one of the things that i notcied is that you hit the bottom of the bag as it comes toward you. Make sure you dont break your hand. Also, i couldnt tell if there was room to circle around but if there is make sure you use that to your advantage. And finally, you need to improve on upper body movement. You have to make sure your chin is tucked, and you dont leave your head so stationary. I know it sounds like im rippin you but im not bro. Its just stuff you learn after a while.

Other then that good job

Is that a home gym set up? If so how do they go? And what's the weight of that bag?

^you bascically were on point!good critique.

exig your fighting classic european style, stiff and no movement at all. work on that head movement and stay stationary to much you should work on that because it becomes habit forming and especially since your young! make sure you get a good trainer who will fix this cause once you get used to that it will be hard to break from it dont let that be your style.

Fix it before its too late.

Also are you using handwraps under those bag gloves?

if not buy some of these handwraps I am pretty sure you can order them on a british online sporting good site.

Everlast gel wraps. they are filled with gell around the knuckles and you can wear them under your bag gloves as hand wraps they are really good and give good protection and are easy to wear instead of always wrapping your hands.

nice post exig, you can tell youve just started but fair play for your enthusiasm you remind me of a kickboxer sometimes with your arms your elbows come out alot, i know its a home gym but you should try to get a heavier bag, you can tell your a small build too cos the bag looks so light and your whipping everywhere.
Good speed, twist a bit more slow down your movement a bit to correct your technique esp throwing right hand stuff.
and like everyone ses move your head alot more and work downstairs more too.
Thanks for taking the time to post that tho, nice one son.

ive recorded some 'stuff' on my mob before and its always shit quality too its so frustrating :D

Looking good exig3, my only criticism is that you tend to throw combo after combo and lead left then right handed, also your feet at times look too off balance.

However you have excellent hand speed and the punches look of good quality, I would like you see you work with a little more discipline behind a jab with head and lateral movement.

How long have you been boxing?

ur sharp n quick, but u can tell ur a bit of raw boxer!

things u can improve on-

keep ur elbows tooked in
loosen up! ur way to upright
SUM of ur hooks were slaps, but sum were nice! lol
more movement, dnt just wait for da bag to get into position!

dnt get me wrong ur aite, just now u know wa u can improve on in my opinion!

Thanks for all the feedback again guys, i just got back from college so ive only had a chance to read them now.

About the criticisms made, fair play, but i will tell you why im not doing the things you recommended.

1) Elbows tucked - because the ones which my elbows are high on are overhand rights for the most part and to make those effective with maximum power i do this. If you watch my jabs, a lot of the time my right elbow is tucked perfectly just above hip. But fair play anyway.

2) Head movement/Lateral Movement - believe me when i say this. I jab and move a lot. It basically forms my style. In that house there is little room, and you didnt get to see it, but there are supports either side of my feet with weights on. I cant step there, and my head movement is something which you guys will get to see when i record shit from a free standing bag. But believe me, its not an error, it was done purposefully, and i can move excellently.

3) My style - The style i chose was aggressive. I mentioned it before, that i do this because it is the most intense. For instance the 30 odd punch combo of straights, i would never do that in a ring... but i do it on a bag because i am improving my stamina, my explosiveness and my power. Bag doesnt equal style at all, in this video. If you watch some of my sparring sessions i actually counterpunch a lot.... so perhaps that vid was a bit deceptive to you guys...

4) Footwork - I dont exactly know how people commented on my footwork when you couldnt see my feet :D , but if you watch me 90% of the time i throw a shot and my feet are set in such a way that i can then throw the next punch, and then the next punch and so on. My footwork is actually something i am good at, i know how to transfer my power through the hips and through my legs and feet, and i am always on my toes ready to move out of the way of a shot, or get ready to launch some shots.

But seriously though guys, i rushed that video. I had done it all, edited it and hosted it within the space of 2 hours. I really wanted to get it up quick just so people can see some of my stuff. If i had spent my time, which i will do next time, i will make sure that my shit is technically sound and i make it lil bit more interesting with other training stuff like rope and stuff.

But once again, thanks guys, and i welcome the criticism. :boxing: :)

You're elbows are up, & out, too much.

You're also whipping your right hand down towards the bag, when throwing to the body. You need to drop yourself down, first. I'm not talking about leaning forward, either. Drop your ass straght down, bending the legs. When you punch down to the body, you are exposed up top.
I can see your space to work was a little cramped, so I understand you were unable to move around the bag too much. But, to do what I'm telling you you need to do, you don't need space.

Keep workin', kid !

Yeah i hear ya. My trainer tells me the same thing and i might not have done it on all the straights (but i did it on some) and on most of the uppercuts i was bending my legs for power, and like you said, to leave myself in a position so i dont get hit.

You have to return the hands back in position better.

Right hand drops sometimes and the left is still out when you throw a right cross.

The cross needs some variation. Its kinda wide to the right and high. Instead of throw the cross you raise the hand and throw itand its not striaght but a bit wide right. Its an easy read to catch on. Keeping it wide also makes it easier to counter

The bag is as heavy as the lightest one at my club, but i went to my club tonight and i was doing the same thing with the heaviest bag in the gym too. It took time to get it to swing as much. I had to put even more power in, and got tired quicker, but the hooks and uppercuts flying in on that thing at boxing tonight, made it go crazy.

For a little guy you can hit hard! Bit like Marciano! lol

Good work on the bag you have a lot of potential. Work hard on your conditioning and sparring and you could be ko'ing guys like foreman in no time at all!

Haha. 6'6', 215 equals fat ass huh?

I'd still put money down on him over you though.

I'm thinking that right to the body puts you down for the count.

haha.

That's enough here though, let's not ruin Exig's thread.

Hehe, i like to think of it as a work in progress, you know?

I know how to build my speed up, mainly through resistance training, and im slowly getting faster and faster. But there comes a point where genetics limits what i can and cant do. I thought my speed was reasonable when i made the vid. But like you said, it will need improving and i will improve it.

And thanks for the compliments GoldenBoy and Southpaw Stinger.. ;)

Your a stocky kid for sure cause your shoulders are square...I am guessing when your body starts to fill out you would be fighting at welterweight ot jr middleweight.

My body has already started to fill out and i dont want it to anymore really... I want power without muscles, look at Bruce Lee. His muscles were small, defined, yet powerful...

Im not going for a bodybuilder look by any stretch... :)

your body is similar to arturo gatti! pretty soon as you get old maybe around 25 you will start having difficulty making or cutting weight so I am guessing by the age of 21 you will be walking around 150 160 and fighting at 135 or 140.

if you want bruce lee strength work on your back muscle lats cause more punching power comes from the back and shoulders then it does the chest, but the main base of power should be from proper stance and sitting down on your punches and proper execution.

Wasnt tired until i finished the last one....

But even then i could have carried on. Of course i was tired though, doing those punch outs is quite tiring, especially as i had covered like 10 miles in the 2 days before that, in cardio work. And i got mashed the night before, so that didnt help..

You look pretty good seeing as your a relative newcomer to boxing. You seem to hit pretty hard, though i wouldn't judge your movement seeing as you were in a tight space but you seemed to have a good punching technique. Obviously there were a few flaws which have been mentioned but nothing that cant be fixed along the way. Good job

It looked like to me that your right hand was coming out like an arm punch. You should take it slower on the bag and work on getting your hips behind the right hand. When your just learning its more important to work on proper technique than conditioning.

Good vid exiq, a bit rough around the edges but youre still young. I'll refraine from giving the same criticism as everyone else. You may want to try working on a shorter more 'compact' hook the power seems to come more from youre arm then youre hips and break it on the opposite foot from the arm youre swinging, it will increase youre speed, power and balance. Also get youre chin down and try hitting from a higher position, you do seem to be open alot of the time and I would cross right over that left at will.

With that said you do have some talents and it's really hard to 'judge' anyone hitting a bag in a 2 min clip.

Yeah i noticed my chin too. I actually thought my hooks were quite compact, and when i train i always do them compact rather than throw haymakers...

As I said it's hard to judge from a 2 min clip and only from hip and up but it looks like youre 'loading' youre hooks, try going the 'shortest' way from youre guard and where the power comes from youre hips/ground.

Done boxing for 4 years with a few breaks, as for stuff I've played soccer for 11 years, free weights for 6 years and kick boxing for 2 years.

My current record is 3-0 amateur I haven't done too many fights but I sparr against decent peoples 3-4 times a week usually and Im currently training to go as many competitions as possible next season.
