View Full Version : Romero's Land of the Dead
!! Anorak 01-07-2006, 07:05 PM Anyone see this? Only just caught it just now. A lot better than I expected (I'm a fan of his work, but after the dive towards mediocrity that was Day I wasn't expecting much) and quite political too.
Not up there with the first two, but good. Strange how Romero's had to give in to convention and make realistic-looking zombies though. Also a fair amount of titillation which gave me a touch on but lowered the tone.
!! Anorak 01-09-2006, 06:08 PM Guess that's a "no" then huh? :(
The Noose 01-09-2006, 06:13 PM Day of the Dead is vastly better than that ****feast Land of the Dead.
!! Anorak 01-09-2006, 06:14 PM I was gonna do a poll on this. For my part, I'd rank this above Day, which got too broad for me.
But Dawn pisses over both of 'em.

Yea, Dawn is the bench mark.
It should have ended with Day.
Land was so so bad IMO. Nothing there to remember.
!! Anorak 01-09-2006, 06:21 PM Really? You surprise me there, I didn't think it was so bad. some nice political commentary, not too overstated. It wasn't SPECTACULAR, but it was decent.
Of course, it does kind of go against the rest of the series where it's no longer men with grey faces.

I preferd the grey faces to the Buffy style make up the zombies had.
The lead zombie was such a ****ing joke. It never got close to being scary or creepy.
Im not sure about any political commentry, the first 3 were good in that sense, but this one didnt work as a horror film at all.
badblood 01-09-2006, 06:34 PM I agree, the movie was far better than I thought it was going to be.
blockhead 01-09-2006, 06:40 PM peter jacksons dead alive is one of the best zombie movies ever, ****ing hilarious.
phallus 01-09-2006, 07:48 PM haven't seen it yet, Romero's first film is an all time classic, i do like how the zombies hang out at the mall in so many of the newer films - ha ha, social commentary on consumerism, i think about that **** everytime i have to go to the mall, i can almost see all the zombies wandering around, " uunghh!!! more brains!!! hey, there's a sale on at Wal mart! unnngh!!! more brains!!!"
