Manfredo Jr 01-07-2006, 07:39 PM i would like to box around 4 times a week.
yeah u look like you do need help , have u been hit by a gamma ray , you look like your going to turn green , what u post a pic of your self for?
Lynx4 01-07-2006, 07:48 PM caus he wants everyone to see he has muscles
RastaSmoker 01-07-2006, 07:53 PM just as rockin said, you need to cut down on the muscles. Right now you are built for show rather then built for go. It is very hard to carry large muscles around a ring for a full fight. If that is indeed you, then you need to understand that yeah, in a wrestling match overal strength helps you win, but in boxing its not much of an advantage.
Manfredo Jr 01-07-2006, 07:57 PM yeah i agree and if you want to cut weight take out those ear rings they will put you down a stone or 2 :p
ron123186 01-07-2006, 07:58 PM keep lifting but more time in boxing gym and running, youll want more cardio so you can go longer in the rounds
Cockyb 01-07-2006, 07:59 PM why cudnt he have just sed

RastaSmoker 01-07-2006, 08:03 PM Success in any fitness program is an elusive moving target. There are many exercise devotees out there who continuously take aim. However, few consistently achieve a solid hit, when it comes to their fitness goals. Success demands focus, balance, consistency and discipline. It also requires the ability and dedication to continuously overcome obstacles.
Endurance athletes such as runners, cyclists, kayakers and others engaged in outdoor exercise regimens recognize winter as one of these obstacles. Icy roads, snow covered trails, freezing temperatures and reduced hours of sunshine all make regular outdoor workouts dicey.
However, for many of these athletes, tapering off simply is not in their creed. They have worked too hard to watch their fitness levels slip away. They need an alternative that is both time efficient and effective in improving their fitness levels. It must also be challenging, motivating, provide variety and be convenient. In other words, it must meet the following criteria:
Intensity. It must challenge both the aerobic and anaerobic systems.
Strength gain. It must improve overall body strength.
Injury free. It must provide intensity without battering muscles and joints.
Calorie burn. It must help burn off any extra fat to help increase/maintain leanness.
Variety. It must be challenging and non-boring.
Mental toughness. It must help the athlete or fitness devotee learn to cope with difficult challenges in their primary activity.
Fitness Boxing is a whole body workout that meets the above criteria and more.
It takes the best aspects of workouts used by some of the world’s most finely conditioned athletes, boxers. It combines them into a fitness program that is safe for the mainstream exercise devotee. In other words, with Fitness Boxing, you train like a boxer in everything but full contact sparring. (That aspect of boxing is left to professional boxing coaches in the relative safety of a standard boxing ring.)
Fitness Boxing is definitely challenging. It works most of the human body’s physiological systems. The musculoskeletal system becomes stronger through specialized resistance exercises and boxing specific equipment drills. The cardiorespiratory and vascular systems become more efficient through workouts that are more than 60% anaerobic. The central nervous system is trained to respond faster and more efficiently to punching combination drills.
Intensity is the trademark of a Fitness Boxing workout. As indicated above, it is more than 60% anaerobic. Many of the drills are made up of two or three minute rounds, with one minute recovery periods. You push through your current lactate threshold and improve it during the round, or anaerobic interval, by working at 85-90% of your maximum heart rate. During the one minute rest period, you learn to more efficiently recover your oxygen debt while simultaneously stretching and reviewing proper technique.
Strength gain is a natural byproduct of the Fitness Boxing workout. Boxers work with weights, specialized boxing equipment and plyometric devices in a manner that maximizes calorie burn to increase lean muscle mass. The Fitness Boxing workout focuses on improving speed, strength, explosiveness and lactate threshold management while simultaneously keeping body fat at minimal levels.
Remaining injury free while improving total body fitness is one of the major benefits of a Fitness Boxing program. As a cross training alternative, it provides a break in routine and adds variety to your overall training program. It distributes the load of training across various body parts. (5) For endurance athletes who do a lot of running, this means a break from pounding your knee and ankle joints, while still getting an intense training session.
Mental toughness comes from learning to cope with the demands of a challenging workout. The more you work through a series of rounds that push you into your anaerobic zone, the better you will deal with intense endurance training or other demanding exercise routines.
So, Fitness Boxing offers all these great cross training benefits. What does a typical workout look like?
Most formal classes at boxing gyms or health clubs are 60 minutes in length. A typical session is broken down into several carefully designed components to ensure a total body workout.
Warm-up. A complete head to toe warm-up. Its purpose is to safely prepare your muscles and tendons for the rest of the session. Approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
Conditioning. This is typically a transition from the warm-up into some boxing specific strength and conditioning exercises. These are resistance exercises that emphasize muscular strength and endurance, speed, tone and anaerobic conditioning. Typically without weights. Approximately 10 minutes.
Technique. One to two new techniques are introduced in each session. The objective is to build from the basics, such as fundamental punches, to more complex combinations and defensive maneuvers. Approximately 5 minutes.
Hitting Drills. These are the heart of the workout. Timed rounds are employed in a circuit training format that works everything from focus mitts to target shields to heavy bags and more. This is highly anaerobic, involving two or three minute rounds (work intervals) interspersed with one minute active recovery periods. After a series of these rounds, you will be refreshingly exhausted, de-stressed and invigorated. Approximately 35 minutes.
Cool Down. This gets your heart rate down while you stretch out and improve your flexibility. It can also serve as a Q&A and planning session with your instructor. Approximately 5 minutes.
In addition to formal classes, complementary strength, plyometric and medicine ball training are commonly utilized to improve overall conditioning as part of a Fitness Boxing program. Strength training employs resistance exercises involving weights that improve overall strength with a particular focus on speed strength, or the ability to activate fast-twitch muscle fibers for explosive punching power. Plyometric and medicine ball training consist of a series of exercises designed to enhance starting speed, acceleration and power.
If you want a great Fitness Boxing workout, but have no desire to become a competitive boxer, you might want to stay clear of the more hardcore boxing clubs. If this is the case, check out a local health club or look for an upscale boxing gym that caters more to the workout than to the competition. Many health clubs now have some sort of boxing program geared more toward the fitness aspects of the workout.
Personal trainers with prior boxing training experience can also offer comprehensive Fitness Boxing workouts. Just make sure the trainer you select is certified by a nationally recognized certification organization and has the appropriate experience and personality to meet your needs.

stayhungry 01-08-2006, 02:39 AM okay already guys!!!! i dont respond every 5 minutes to something i posted because i have other things to do then sit and check my emails all day. Im REAWLLY SORRY if i did the wrong thing here and posted my pic. I was just showing what i got and what you guys thought i could do with it for boxing cause im just starting. YOu guys that think i am tryin gto show that i have "muscles" and showing off are the guys who have a big ass pic of themselves half naked in their avatar. I hate haters and i wont do it to anyone either. All i did was post up a pic for stats and ask for some good solid opinions on gettin ginto boxing. So please forget i ever posted up a pic(cause apparently thats a sin here) and lets move on. To the guys that actually answered my question i thank you kindly. Now lets all just get along and forget this. thank you.
And yes this IS a pic of me and yes is is before bulking up for winter. And yes i am natural, i lift hard and am damn proud of it.

as i said before post up another pic of you holding a sign that says Boxingscene.
oh and by the way, dont pm me with that shit. I responded to your question very politely at first. I even gave you a grip of tips. So next time you ask a question wait for the answer.
stayhungry 01-08-2006, 03:02 AM smoker, i didnt mean to tick you off. you kinda started it. i was just telling you that i was busy all day and i cant respond every 5 minutes to a internet forum. lets just get along alerady
peace
patto1984 01-08-2006, 03:03 AM you probly know the excercises boxing involves...skipping, bag work, sparring.
For the weights, i guess it depends if you want to be competitive or not. You might find your competetion are naturally bigger framed than you but same weight cos of your muscle mass.
Also weight training for boxing to body building are different.
RastaSmoker 01-08-2006, 03:03 AM smoker, i didnt mean to tick you off. you kinda started it. i was just telling you that i was busy all day and i cant respond every 5 minutes to a internet forum. lets just get along alerady

you didnt tick me off, i was just annoyed that it said you were still online and you werent responding. If you look, i defended you at first. So no hard feeling moose. got a sign made yet
stayhungry 01-08-2006, 03:05 AM thanks, i will take the answers that i did get and use them. I do alot of cardio already like:rope, bag, elliptical trainer, jogging, hockey, all sports. I really need a strong routine to get into for a begginer. also fighting styles like southpaw i dont know exactly what these all mean. im right hand dominate so i dont know which stance would be the best to use etc etc etc etc.
thanks again.
stayhungry 01-08-2006, 03:06 AM its all good smoker. Sorry i wont hold a sign(whats the use of this again??) and thank you for your defenses i did truly appreciate them. have a great weekend guys.
supaduck 01-08-2006, 09:10 AM I think he wants you to hold a sign saying boxingscene to prove it's you in the picture of you.
Having large muscle mass isn't good for you, you'll be fighting bigger people than you, so stop with the weights and let your mass go down a bit.
Pugnacious_Z 01-08-2006, 09:32 AM why dont you people think dat it could be him in dat pic, not very hard to believe. hes got alot of muscle mass, but believable for sure.
and stayhungry, ill give u sum advice. boxing is all skill and stamina. dont think dat u will beat up guys in the gym, coz most likely u will get whooped first. if i were u, i wud only lift like once a week or sumthing coz u got alot of muscle on ya, how much u weigh?
for exercises, just run, skip and hit bags and stuff.
and one more thing, try to maintain your weight and not bulk for a while and see how boxing goes,
good luck
supaduck 01-08-2006, 11:18 AM Yeah exactly, muscle doesn't mean instant power. Some muscleheads couldn't KO a flyweight.
Jesus christ, he has really big hands in that picture too.
Manfredo Jr 01-08-2006, 11:58 AM Yeah exactly, muscle doesn't mean instant power. Some muscleheads couldn't KO a flyweight.

yup , and when you do weights you muscles tighten which makes you slower for punching
stayhungry 01-08-2006, 12:04 PM you guys are taking this in sucha wrong way its insane. I lift weights cause ive wanted to go on stage and compete(bodybuilding)since i was young already. I havent even thought about boxing till now. All i want is to be able to have some endurance with hitting, have a good cardio workout by boxing. I will probably never go proffessional with boxing. supaduck 01-08-2006, 05:43 PM Still, you can't deny the guy has good quadrimopiceps.
stayhungry 01-08-2006, 05:44 PM you keep saying shit for my posting a pic of me flexing but your the one with the ****ing 4 inch picture of you doing a double bicep flex shot with no shirt and no abs(all you have showing is what god gave you when you were born, they arent real abs, they might show cause your so damn skinny but those arent abs) so either take your dumb mexican face off your avatar or just plain shut up you hypocritical mexican.
supaduck 01-08-2006, 06:12 PM You obviously just wanted to show your stupid bodybuilder muscle, so shut the hell up and stop being racist. What, you think your better than everyone else because your muscles are bigger?
stayhungry 01-08-2006, 06:28 PM No i dont hink im better alright. And im not that big im only 220 pounds. So im gonna leave this whole issue alone and i wont come back to this thread again.
paul750 01-08-2006, 06:34 PM Maybe you should persue your interest in bodybuiling rather than start boxing, but either way good luck.
cant see what it says on the note execpt for boxing scene
thats what its sappost to rasta wanted him to do it
can we please cut the hating and help the guy, its easier to help the more info we get and pic tells a lot.
Ask Southpaw Stinger for his routine hes a heavyweight and im pretty sure he lifts as well
patto1984 01-08-2006, 10:41 PM yup , and when you do weights you muscles tighten which makes you slower for punching
yeh thats a myth. sprinters have beefed up legs, but becuse of the type of weight training they do, theyre also fast. and when i was a sprinter i was so flexible from all the stretchin, wasnt tite at all.

hmmm well since thats not him in his avatar thats prince naz and since naz isnt mexican, what the **** are you talkin about, you think "nazfans" avatar is him?? wow!! at least you know your boxing......
aps214 01-09-2006, 12:10 AM You guys are a harsh crowd. The dude just asked for your opinion he seems to be pretty humble. The boxing gym where I work out is across from a Golds Gym. The bodybuilders who come in with ego always get their asses kicked bad by kids with 15 inch arms. This guy wants to box and seems willing to learn. If he puts the time and dedication in that he used to get built he'll probably be pretty good.
stayhungry 01-09-2006, 12:15 AM hmmm well since thats not him in his avatar thats prince naz and since naz isnt mexican, what the **** are you talkin about, you think "nazfans" avatar is him?? wow!! at least you know your boxing......
like i said............................Im a begginer in boxing right now so no i dont know every boxer name.
hotbox23 01-09-2006, 12:43 AM even if the kid was mexican why would you have to say that??

Damn I wouldnt worry about your body or workout you need to fix your skin problem and those wrinkles on your forehead! your forehead gots more wrinkles then my palm.
I suggest a moisturize routine that and you must get Astonished alot to get those wrinkles like that.
how old are you by the way?
Some of you ****ers are plain pathetic.
boobetrap 01-09-2006, 04:41 AM The post about Prince Naz was pretty stupid though as Naz would knock him out pretty quick and i'm sure Naz has ****ing strong abs! Bu on the other hand I don't understand why everyone had a go at posting a pic pehaps he thought it would give a better idea of what he needs to change!
MickyHatton 01-09-2006, 05:08 AM like i said............................Im a begginer in boxing right now so no i dont know every boxer name.
Listen my friend, your in good condition in a lot of ways but your cardio vascular will be weaker than it should becuase you are built for short explosive actions.
If you are only wanting to build overall fitness and condition to allow you to burn any outstanding fat that you have for bodybuilding then I would stick to your routines and increase your cardio etc.
If you are serious about taking up boxing as a sport then you must change various things, you need to cut back on the heavy weight training and work more towards circuit type training and obviously take up the basics of boxing i.e. join a boxing gym.
You will need to increase your intensity in your cardio workouts to around 70% to max to train up your heart and lungs, the problem with having muscle mass is as I'm sure you know the latic acid increases with the greater muscle mass therefore making you tire easily although obviously you are a lot stronger in shorter power motions, this does not suit boxing.
You can keep a lot of your shape and size whilst increasing your overall fitness and elasticity but would not be able to seriously compete in both sports at any great level, its one or the other!
Southpaw Stinger 01-09-2006, 12:29 PM Ask Southpaw Stinger for his routine hes a heavyweight and im pretty sure he lifts as well
Heres a bit of how to train each week, whether your a heavyweight (or any other kind of weight really)
I have a good all round routine that I put together with my coach. It involves;
1. Strength training – 2 or 3 days per week
2. Conditioning – 3 days per week
3. Skill training – 5 days per week
4. Core training – 3 days per week
5. Sparring and Plyometrics which are not to be performed on consecutive days.
I usually weight train 3 days per week. I do a boxing specific weight training session which differs from that of a body builder. If you do weights properly they will make you both stronger and faster.
A boxer should lift weights that are around 60 – 85% of your maximum. So if you can bench press 100lbs for 1 repetition, perform your strength session with weights between 60 and 85lbs. That’s the way I learned it.
Lower reps (with heavier weights) will develop power/max strength
Mid-range reps (with moderate weights) can be utilized when training speed strength
Higher repetitions can also be incorporated with certain full body movements such as dumbbell swings or snatches when the goal is total body conditioning.
Get to a boxing gym and find a coach to develop your skills. You should spar at least 1 or 2 times a week and do a few rounds on the heavybag each day. Roadwork at least 3 times a week (around 3 miles) skipping + speed bag and medicine ball etc should all be included in your work out.
Weight training is an important part but not a big part of your training. Sparring and working on the heavybag is more important for a boxer than weights.
This is a bit of what I do and I hope it helps. Usually people lighter than heavyweights don't use as much weight training but it depends on the fighter and what his goals are. I heavyweight should try to focus on conditioning most of all.
Good luck

jabsRstiff 01-09-2006, 03:12 PM No reason to jump on the dude.
He didn't say anything (at first) that should have brought about such hostility.
Maybe he just posted the pic so the people who he was asking for advice have a little better idea of where he's at ?
If he posted it just to show off, well.....yeah, that's lame. But, you boys jumped on him before giving him a chance.

1. You live in the UK, so there is no wonder why even a non-boxing fan would've known who Naseem was.
2. Are you trying to compare Naseem's stature in the world to that of Ali or Tyson, or for that matter, anywhere close to either?

Who cares about Naz he has never beaten a Hall of Fame fighter in their respective primes. He was an overrated coward who got his head bashed off a corner post by a Mexican Warrior MAB. Then after he lost he didnt even try for a rematch he ran back to the UK like a little bitch just like the Redcoats did after the Revolutionary War. America has real heroes, we dont worship pansies and primadonnas like Naz, The King and Queen , and David Beckham.

Well i hardly see how hitting a guys head off a corner post should be somthing to be proud of, it just means he's a dirty fighter.

supaduck 01-10-2006, 05:53 PM The above post is wrong, it's only the retards in the UK who look up to Beckham etc. And considering our size we've had some kick ass boxers. Besides, Americans are largely descendant from us.

SlightlyStoopid 05-03-2006, 07:14 PM Yeah i wouldnt' box for real being built like that, would be too slow (and not as powerful) and face some REALLY hard hitting beasts, but if you want to do it for workout its an amazing workout. But if you were to get serious you'd have to cut down on the muscles.

2OSouzaSuarez12 05-04-2006, 01:02 AM If you were hoping to show a pic or urslef and everyine gets all impressed your in the wrong place. You dont have a boxers body at all either and it would be very tough for you after it seems you have already done a lot of lifting. I don't know bro.
!! AI-Holmes!! 05-04-2006, 01:10 AM The guy lifts weights, that does not mean that he can be an excellent boxer, but who knows, if he really applies himself and finds a good boxing trainer, he can accomplish something, but that goes for anybody else.
Rockin' 05-04-2006, 01:16 AM Every muscle bound guy that I fought had nothing to offer. Too slow and too tight. Big muscles dont win fights.

Tyson was big but he wasnt freaky bulging like the other guy. Tysons muscles aswell were not built with weights, they were built oldschool with bag work and cals and lots and lots of sparring.

Pugnacious_Z 05-04-2006, 09:18 AM tyson lifted weights differently to the dis guy or bodybuilders in general. he only gained up to 5 pounds of muscle which is nothing and tysons muscles just looked functional
