I'm not really all that familiar with the MMA'ers of today, even in it's humble beginnings when UFC was coming up in the early 90's I was more of a casual fan. I'd like to see everybody's list from #1 - #10 Greatest of All - Time and why you rated them for those slots. This includes both "leagues" UFC and Pride fighters

Greatest Of All - Time

#1. Royce Gracie- I don't know of any other

MMA'er of his size that could've taken

on giants like Severn and Shamrock and

beat 'em.

I haven't really followed anybody like Gracie

Some that I did or do like is Sakuraba,

Mark Coleman,

Maurice Smith(I've always liked
him prior to seeing him in an MMA event
he proved everybody what a stand up fighter
with world-class talent can do against
great grapplers)

That Thai kid who only weighs about 175lbs.
taking out those big dudes. Something like
Kaenorsing I think is his last name...

I wouldn't call Royce one of the greatest p4p of all time, but he was great for another reason, he proved the effectivness of ground fighting when it was virtually unheard of....

This man IMO is the P4P greatest of all time...

Gracie was only great in the Early UFC for the fact that half the people he fought wern't trained the other half new nothing about BJJ..
1.Bas Rutten - for his time there wasn't any better.
2.Sakuraba - beat many gracies by submission
3.Fedor - undefeated
4.Gomi - undefeated in pride.
5.wanderlei silva - went undefeated @205 for 2yrs, + he challenged some solid HW;s.
6.Carlos Newton - Only had the belt brifly in the UFC, his ground skill can only be matched by a few..
7.Dan henderson - Always under-rated, never had a belt, now he does, he'll keep it for a while..
8.Matt Hughes - I hate him, but he's a dominant champ in the ufc.
9.Pat militich - he should be higher on my list but i aint goin back to change it.
10.Shogun - He isnt' best of all time but he will be, he's new bread of MMA fighter, he's an excellent striker with an excellent ground game.. Rare breed..

I'm drawing a mind blank, so I used fighters who are starting to drop out of the spotlight and fighters that have achieved waht no-one else could in that weight class.

Francisco Juarez Shamrock was pretty good too.

PS: If this thread is about top P4P fighters, Royce is not even top 20... LIke Kaps said, he was a pioneer, and he will be remember for that not for being top P4P.

In the no holds bar era, I would say Rickson Gracie.
In the no time limit, no rounds, no judges, mulitple fights until there was a winner in the UFC, I would say Royce Gracie.
In the time limit with judges in the UFC, I would say Mark Coleman.

In current times, there are weight classes and so it wouldnt be an absolute champion. With rounds and judges so truly you dont know who is the champion. But with the rules nowadays,
P4P would go to Fedor without a doubt.

Coleman best of all time?? I would consider him a pioneer at most.. He wasn't around for the first 9 UFC's But he's been in tha world of pro MMA since 96..
He came into the UFC on fire, but that fire was extinguished after his first 6fights.. He dropped 4 straight against solid comp, if he would have pulled out some wins that might have changed my point of view.

P4P?
Let's say that, a smaller version of Fedor would fight vs the likes of Gomi, Rickson, Penn , Kid...I'd still have Fedor as the favorite. Fedor would probably beat them up to a pulp.

If you watch most of Fedors fights! its almost like he has a gaurdian angel watching over him the way he is able to escape just barely from devastating kicks and punches is amazing.

And that shot he took from fujita

and the slam on his head by randleman.... someone above is looking out for him.

The guy is a machine.

Gardian angel or not , the reason I'm still mentioning Fedor as the p4p best mma fighter of all time is mainly because of his evolution.

That's the most impressive aspect of this particular fighter.
He keeps evolving. He comes up with something different for every of his fights. He seems much faster than before. His gameplans are also more complexe.

It seems to me that He's not thinking like a fighter would.
He's employing war tactics lol. It's like a chess game.
He looks out of shape and yet, He's incredibly fast with his transitions on the ground. What's also amazing is that he's not just fighting with a prepared gameplan.
He adapts to the shittiest situations imaginable,(his fight vs Coleman perfectly illustrates this), and turns it to his advantage in no time.

The only reason why this guy is number 1 at the moment is because he's the smartest fighter in mma.

Fedor is a machine a well tuned machine!

you ever heard about STALIN? His ideal soldier was a killing machine with no emotion or heart whatsoever he just executes orders...thats Fedor no smile no anger when he throws a punch no expression at all on his face, no emotion. every fight most people grunt or make faces his face is like a mask when throwing punches, and applying submissions he is unreal.

He also said in an interview when he fights he thinks back to when he was dirt poor and they couldnt even afford food, and then he looks at the guy across the ring as a guy trying to take his food and preventing him from feeding his family.

I am impressed with his all around skills as well.

And his workouts he doesnt do bench press or squats with heavy ass weights he just mainly does body weight excersizes and low cost equipment all oldschool like the sledghammer and giant tire, and the rubber bands and push ups, pull ups etc... Like they say keep it simple.

He works for Pride, he used to be a pro wrestler in japan, a very popular one at that, so Pride uses him to promote, he also runs the Takada Dojo in Japan that produces fighters like Sakuraba and Matsui....

He looked pretty pissed in the second fight with Nog, right after the headbutt and the ref was seperating them, Nog gave him a little shove with his foot and it looked like Fedor was gonna drop a bomb on his ass...

Liddell can't be #1 of all time, no way in hell.
The guy wouldn't even be a #1 fighter in the pride fc division.
P4P it's Fedor plain and simple.
whatever happens in the future of this sport, Fedor is already one of the most important figure in the history of this biz..

MMA is not as old as Boxing, but it's safe to say that Fedor will be remembered and he'll be a reference.
The only other fighter who equals Fedor Emelianenko in the history of mma is of course Masahiko Kimura. The most important fighter in the history of judo and what would later become, mma or as the brazilians call it, vale tudo.

He wasn't the best in his time, maybe that year.. plenty of people have gotten the best of mark coleman even in his prime. The reason this happend anyway is for the fact coleman was one of the best HW's UFC ever had and the HW division is shit now..for a UFC fighter to come from UFC and beat fedor is unthinkable, I'll go punish myself now..

lol gracie's are far from being no1 P4P MMA fighters of all time . Kazushi Sakuraba owned all gracies. he exposed how to beat BJJ. back in 90s when MA community thought that BJJ was unbeatable, this man stood up and beat up all gracie's . he really did give royce a beating of his life :P .
