Soundtraveler 01-11-2005, 01:57 PM This weekend I like the Steelers over the Jets but it may just be closer than anyone thinks.
In the late game on Saturday, I think the Falcons should be able to put an end to the Rams' season, but this one will be a shootout, and to tell the truth I really don't like Atlanta's chances with the one man show that Michael Vick is.
Sundays picks to follow....
Soundtraveler 01-11-2005, 02:33 PM On Sunday I am going to say Randy Moss won't be much of a factor at all, he has a sprained ankle now, and was barely moving by the end of the game last week. So for me, this is a battle between Culpepper and McNabb - both men are huge for their position, and both can run.
I am giving the edge to McNabb and the Eagles because they have the better running game and the Vikings have one too many banged up players on the Defensive Line. But if they win, it will be by the narrowest of margins. I say the Eagles by a Field Goal in the final seconds of the game.
In the late game, and the best game of the playoffs stats wise, I am going to go with Manning and the Colts. I know it's outside, I know the Colts are a "Dome" team, I know the Patriots knocked them off last year, and I also know the Patriots are without their best Defensive player Ty Law. The Patriots are without either of their Cornerbacks and will be going with 2nd and 3rd string players on the Defensive side of the ball.
The one thing you don't want to have is the second string Defense on the field when you face Manning, and he is going to carve up the Patriots' secondary this week, I say the Colts win it going away - perhaps a 14+ points win again this week.

SonnyG8R 01-11-2005, 07:06 PM Jets (11-6) O/U: 35
Steelers (15-1) Line: -9
Take the Jets and the points
Rams (9-8) O/U: 48
Falcons (11-5) Line: -7
Falcons will win but 7 is a big number. I'd be wary of betting on this game but if a gun was to head i'd take the Rams.
Vikings (9-8) O/U: 48
Eagles (13-3) Line: -9
Eagles by double digits.
Colts (13-4) O/U: 52
Patriots (14-2) Line: -2
These are the two best teams in the NFL right now. I'm expecting a high scoring shootout. I'm picking the Colts to win on a late drive.

Very good picks, I just can't bet against the Steelers at this point, and I like the Falcons at home, but I think the Eagles will barely win it. Colts are really playing well to say the least and I say they are the team to beat - but I don't think anyone will....
Boxerdog 01-12-2005, 04:42 PM It's called ball control, boys.
If Corey Dillon is on the field grinding out time consuming yards, Manning is on the sideline nervously watching the time slip away. Even when he IS on the field some of his composure will be missing.
New England wins in a "statement making" effort!

Good point B-dog..nothing runs out the clock like a good running series..UT has for years been famous for running up to 11 min's off the clock in one series; the running game has always been their bread and butter, even when Payton Manning was our quarterback and he had Peerless Price to throw it to!
Boxerdog 01-13-2005, 02:39 PM I wonder if I am the only poster here who likes the Pats in this game?

I picked the Colts, but people are foolish is they think this is a gimmee. Seems like everyone is convinced that they'll win this one easy. I just think that the Pats secondary isn't enough to stop a determined Manning this time around. Look at the way they melted against the Steelers when their streak ended. It was back and forht for a bit and then Pittsburgh just ran away with it.
trinidadpr87 01-13-2005, 03:05 PM im pickin patriots over the colts 33 to 27.belichick will make one of the cornerbacks look like an ed reed.
Soundtraveler 01-13-2005, 03:23 PM No way the Colts lose this one - come on folks, Manning against the Patriots second string Defensive backs! The only thing that could give Manning trouble would be a blinding snow blizzard!!
Dillon is a good back, but Manning will put up too many points for him to be a factor in the second half, they will need lots of passing from Brady, trying to kill the clock only works if you can score more points than the Colts - and I don't see that happening here....

I heard that already, and I just dont see how being a rookie with a perfect 14-0 record is supposed to blow it completely just cause its the bowl game?? To me, that is when he would be the most careful, etc...cause he knows whats on the line. How does he win 14 straight and then suddenly he sucks? I just dont get that
SonnyG8R 01-13-2005, 06:21 PM This is interesting:
Roethlisberger won’t be getting paid for his efforts against the Jets and that is just fine with him. Instead he is reaching out to those in need as he is donating his entire game check to tsunami relief.

FINALLY..somebody besides me that doesnt buy that theory! I just dont see a team playing great, and beating every team they face for 14 games in a row blowing it in the bowl!! Ben wont be on the field by himself either..he'll have the entire Steeler team backing him up ;)

Well, Brady is kind of a crazy-eyed FREAK, isn't he?? :D
Seriously... I know that Ben is a pro surrounded by other pros but to pretend that a rookie isn't a little more prone to pressure-caused mistakes is just unrealistic.

its just my opinion. i think rookies are more prone to mistakes in presure situations.i also thought that the jets did a good job against the chargers offense(except for barton). i think the jets are a better team then people give them credit for and they will beat the steelers this weekend.

I agree, and I think it will be a very close game, maybe decided by just a field goal....
Minnesota beats Philly with McNabb throwing two and possibly three picks. Belechek manages to screw up Peyton with his crappy field and New England finds a way to win. The Rams expose Vick's poor accuracy in the passing game and win a shootout. Pittsburgh beats the Jets but not by much.

Wow, now that is some prediction my friend! Moss is hurt so he is not much of a factor against Philly.
I think the field being left uncovered intentionaly is pretty sad for the Patriots - if you have to depend on a sloppy field to get the job done, you don't have much of a team. Dillon won't be able to run in the mud any better than anyone else and it hurts his chances of being a really big factor in the game.

Oh yeah, he's very likely to make some mistakes, but what quarter back isnt? I've seen Brady and the others throw interceptions too..but we'll see as of this weekend...I gotta root for my boys cause they've worked so hard to get where they are. And, even if they get put out this weekend, I'll still love them and give them full credit for making it this far with a rookie at the helm ;)

marvdave 01-14-2005, 04:42 PM i heard a report today that the NFL sent someone to inspect the field and the field was supposedly in great shape and got a passing grade. It won't matter. Good field or bad field, Manning will find a way to lose "The big game".... after all, it is a family tradition :D

yeah there is no telling whats gonna happen and we'll have to see this weekend. i was cheering for my team to last week . my team is the chargers and i cant stand that they got beat but the jets did look good with the exception of Barton who made that penalty to keep the chargers in the game. the jets kept the chargers 4th ranked offense in check and pennington played really well in crunch time and thats why i think they will win. but i have to give the steelers props for doing as well as they did this year.

Much ado about nothing.
The Pats braintrust knows that the Colts are a "dome team" and would rather not play in inclimate weather so they have been leaving the field uncovered supposedly to let the weather "ravage" it.. It's an effort to get inside their heads more than anything else. Far as I know, both teams will have to play on the same field.

Thanks for the info B-dog..to me, a messy field would hurt the Patriots more than the Colts anyway. The pats dont have a running game anyway, and if the field is a mess then they may do worse than normal when they run the ball...but the Colts have Payton Manning and Marvin Harrison, which means there will be little reason to run the ball at all. Oh well, this weekends games should be exciting but unfortunately I'll have to tape the Steeler game cause I'm taking my kid to the movies! :(
marvdave 01-15-2005, 12:37 PM I have to take my seven year old to the annual Cub Scout Monster Truck show at Angel Stadium. I have to miss the second half of the Steeler game. tracylee 01-15-2005, 08:39 PM Awesome! Now that was a nerve twising game if ever I saw one! Oh, what I meant about N.E. running game was when they lost to the Steelers they just couldnt get anything going on the ground..I remember posting the day after that game that I didnt understand how they had gone undefeated so long and that if a team would just shut down their passing game they could beat them, et..that they just didnt have much of a running game..and, oddly enough, nobody said a word about me saying that then
Soundtraveler 01-15-2005, 08:48 PM Great game though, I am impressed with the Jets' never say die attitude, I think they will be very, very good next year! I don't see the Steelers going any farther in the playoffs, I think they are done with one win this year.
I think the Falcons should win this shootout tonight, I would take the "over" in the game if I were betting on it! I will say the Falcons win it by 10 if Vick has a good night running the ball. We will see soon enough if I am right about this one too tonight....

I dont think theyre done yet. Just like their last few games of the regular season, they got the win. Just like then, tonights victory wasnt pretty, and they made a buttload of mistakes, but they still got the win. Somehow I see them doing that everytime they have to. The Jets put up one hell of a fight so I give them full credit, but the Steelers will play better next week..thats just my opinion, and yes I'm aware of the fact that it's not the popular one! :D

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that the Steelers havent looked pretty, or very professional, in weeks! BUT, they keep winning (remind you of anyone..like Ruiz :D ) and I told my daughter when the Jets missed the second field goal that I had to take that as a sign (and I dont believe in that type of thing either) that with that not only second but third chance they wouldnt blow it..no way! She was up rooting and yelling along with me during the last 15 mins of the game..it was very cool! ;)

...Yeah they keep winning but thats gonna end in their next playoff game. At this point they arent anything special and the Pats or Indy will take em apart. Didn't I say Rothlisberger was gonna struggle?? They were lucky as hell to get out of this game today. They must have had like 500 4 leaf clovers and 1000 rabbits feat in their uni's
Soundtraveler 01-16-2005, 04:29 AM No pbds, all they needed was to have a game come down to a former Saints kicker, and you knew they would lose with a guy who couldn't win a game for the Saints either - the irony is it was his missed field goal that kept the Saints out of the playoffs this year too! And he wasn't even on the Saints team this year!
Pittsburg will be taken apart by either the Pats or the Colts no doubt, as a matter of fact it won't be close.
I expected the Falcons to beat the Rams but I sure didn't think it would be by 30 points! DAMN - what an ass woopin'!

marvdave 01-16-2005, 12:07 PM being the die-hard Steeler fan that I am, it's hard to admit, but my beloved Steelers just don't match up with Indy or N.E. I realize we beat the Pats earlier, but that was not playoff time. Rothesberger looks really shaky and I sure Bellidick will have a surprise or two for him. If the Colts win, we can't keep up with them offensivly. A good defensive game by Blitzburg, and they will still score 24 points.
It's looking like another AFC championship game loss at home to me.
errrrrrrrrrrrrr...forget that honest crap, the Steelers will beat the hell out of either team and win the Super Bowl~!!!! :D

Regardless of how it turns out, we can be proud of them for making it this far, and for winning every game since the second game of the season, with a rookie qb! I'm still hoping that they will get it together and play the way I know theyre capable of playing next week, but if not they have nothing to be ashamed of at all. ;)
Soundtraveler 01-16-2005, 02:49 PM Well so far it's the Eagles taking it to the Vikings, and as I suspected - so far at least - Randy Moss has not been a factor, the Vikings are lucky that they aren't down by 3 touchdowns at the half! Go Philly!

Moss screwed the Vikes out of a td too. He walked off the field when the fake fg was supposed to go to him.
The Eagles defense is dominating the Vikes and the Offensive line is giving McNabb loads of time.

The Eagles defense is dominating the Vikes and the Offensive line is giving McNabb loads of time.
Yes indeed, and through 3 quarters I am impressed with the Eagles' ability to manhandle the Vikings on both sides of the ball. The Vikes are lucky they aren't down by 3 or 4 touchdowns so far in this one!
Soundtraveler 01-16-2005, 04:26 PM Wow! Dominating performance by the Eagles who could have won it by 23 points! I have to admit although I thought they would win this one, I really thought it would be close, and to think I didn't think Philly would go deep into the playoffs without T.O. - my hat is off to the Eagles.
Now the question becomes one of wether the Eagles can shut down Vick again.
I think they may just be able to do it if the Defense plays this well again next week....
Boxerdog 01-16-2005, 07:42 PM Ball control.
A "statement making effort".
Sound familiar? :p
Soundtraveler 01-16-2005, 08:00 PM Man, those Patriots are good, and Manning was on target most of the day but the dropped passes really hurt the Colts.
Both teams played good defense considering the weather, which did seem to effect the Colts for sure. I really am suprised at just how well the Pats "D" came through, and ball control was indeed the difference in the game after all.
Next weekends games will be intense with all the hitting going on with the teams that are left!
Boxerdog 01-16-2005, 08:04 PM Two to one time of possesion is a lot to overcome.
Now the Steelers get a good look at the Pats WITH Dillon....a different animal.
SonnyG8R 01-16-2005, 08:07 PM This New England team is so efficient and business like.
Just incredible the way this defense shut down the most prolific passer ever without Pro bowlers Richard Seymour and Ty Law, as well as Tyrone Poole, Eugene Wilson...

You were right. I thought of your prediction at halftime and thought, yup bd called it.
SonnyG8R 01-16-2005, 08:17 PM Jets (11-6) O/U: 35
Steelers (15-1) Line: -9
Take the Jets and the points
Rams (9-8) O/U: 48
Falcons (11-5) Line: -7
Falcons will win but 7 is a big number. I'd be wary of betting on this game but if a gun was to head i'd take the Rams.
Vikings (9-8) O/U: 48
Eagles (13-3) Line: -9
Eagles by double digits.
Colts (13-4) O/U: 52
Patriots (14-2) Line: -2
These are the two best teams in the NFL right now. I'm expecting a high scoring shootout. I'm picking the Colts to win on a late drive.
I won big with the Jets this weekend. If it wasn't for an inept kicker they may have as well. :p
I wouldn't touch Rams-Falcons. But like I said, I knew Atlanta would win. Just had no idea it would be such a blow out.
Eagles by double digits. Another nice moneymaker. :D
Lastly, New England showed why they are the defending champs. Bill Belichek (sp) is the best head coach in the league. This team just exudes confidence and professionalism. They are also tough as nails. This is a history defining post season for them. 3 SB wins in 4 years qualifies as a legitamate dynasty.
Boxerdog 01-16-2005, 08:32 PM You were right. I thought of your prediction at halftime and thought, yup bd called it.
Well, I sure wasn't crowing at the half! :D
6-3 and I'm thinking "these guys could totally dominate the stats at this rate and STILL lose!"
I'm pretty confident that Pittsburg can't hang with them though.
Ben doesn't make me nearly as nervous as Manning!

Well the game wasn't a lock at the half, but the style of play was pretty well dictated. I do think the weather made a difference as well.
The Fix 01-16-2005, 09:56 PM i cheering for pit cause i cant stand new england anymore.id like to see another team win the superbowl. i think NE is going to beat pit but i can see either philly or atl winning. vick looks good and i dont think there is a guy more valuble to his team than vick.philly looks good as well and they could finslly go to the superbowl this year.

Hey everybody seems to be jumping on their bandwagon (if only in order to NOT jump on the Steelers ;) ) but thats ok. That would be ironic as hell if they did beat my boys...they ended a 21 game winning streak (that apparently most people dont want to acknowledge or give them credit for..and would prefer to forget it entirely) and MAYBE the pats will end their 15 game streak..that wouldnt be fair! Theyre still a few games behind them on that :p

I'll admit they got lucky with the Jets, but I wouldnt say they "gave" them the game. After him missing the field goal, they DID have to work their way down the field to try for one of their own..I dont remember them being on like the 30 yard line (on their own side of the field) when they returned the punt :p So, it took determination (after throwing repeated interceptions) and hard work to get within field goal range.
As for the 17 to 14..that would SUCK big time to lose by a field goal!!! But, like I posted earlier, even if they lose to the Pats, I'm damned proud of them for making it this far..and for having such an outstanding season (and I believe that ANY team that makes it into the playoffs, except for some of the 'wild card' teams, has to be a good team, or they wouldnt be there). And, if I remember correctly, some posted that the Steelers would be out of the playoffs after the first game, and that didnt happen. So, I have no problem giving them credit for what they've accomplished when no one else can bring themselves to do it ;) Next season Ben wont be so damn green either (not to mention Duce!), and the entire league better look out!
Its the same as when Tenn. played Auburn in the bowl game..so many people laughed at them for losing (by a few pts at that, and they were supposed to slaughter us!) but what theyre not thinking about is ATLEAST THEY WERE THERE!! Every team in the SEC would have killed to be in their place, and they damn well know it!
so, in other words, GO STEELERS..til the day I die!!!

Yeah, it will be up to the pats defensive line to stop Duce and Jerome! '
THats what kills me about my boys and makes me wanna choke them! They can go all game spinning their wheels..throwing interceptions, but when it comes to "crunch" time they get it done..they get the ball down the field in a matter of sec's enough to get the field goal..why the hell dont they do that all during the game?? I've seen them do that in their last several games, which is why they won all them by just a few pts (a field goal!)..do almost nothing all game, then get the win within sec's !! I hated making that comparison, but its just so uncanny how much its similar to their last min. wins!! And what frustrates me so much is I KNOW they can do that all during the game, if they really try. Sure, the other teams are good too, and will cause trouble for them while trying to do that..and yes, Ben is a rookie, but I remember when they beat the Pats, and then beat the Eagles the very next weekend (one commentator said they were the first team in NFL history to pull that off!! 2 undefeated teams ..back to back)..man, they were playing so damn good! They looked like they were the complete team, and really had it together..wether it was in the air, on the ground, offense or defense..the were kicking ass and making this girl OH SO PROUD!! And I know they can play like that again if they just convince themselves that they are the best team out there....And before anyone tells me how stupid THAT comment is, several commentators said many times over that they were just that; the best team in the league! So, take it up with them..cause I'm simply repeating what I heard :p
They have just got to stop listening to everyone telling them they cant do it(if that is indeed the problem)..before they get convinced of it and NOT do it! They are a damn good team, just as good as any team out there, and I know they are good enough to not only go to the Super Bowl, but they can win it too..if they just play like they were earlier in the season
Man, I apologize, I dont mean to keep posting "novels"..but this subject and my team get me all fired up!! :o

SonnyG8R 01-17-2005, 06:32 PM Entering this season Cowher is 7-8 in the postseason with the Steelers. He is 1-3 in AFC Championship games. Here are his stats since becoming coach in 92.

...Auburn might be your national champs but USC would have kicked their asses by 3 touchdowns and you know it. When it comes to basketball I sure don't hear the SEC fans jumping up and down. In fact, they struggled quite a bit in their bowl games in football this year as well. Came out on the short end against the big ten and the ACC. In my opinion both the big ten and the ACC are better football conferences. Only the SEC plays D2 schools on a regular basis. Sorry Dude, just callin it as I see it. :)

You let your hatred lead you to make bad predictions...
"McNabb will throw 3-4 interceptions" ?????????????????
McNabb RARELY throws a pick.....he has one of the best completion to interception ratios of the last 5 years.
I live in Philadelphia...& the concensus is that the Eagles will make it to the Bowl....but we EXPECT them to come up short against either of those AFC beasts.
So, if you want to see us bitter....pray for the Falcons to win.

...He actually threw two passes right into the hands of the Vikings safety and he dropped em both. Do you remember that? I was predicting he would throw them in the playoffs because that is where he chokes. So you would be less dissapointed at a Super Bowl loss than an NFC championship loss? IMO there is nothing worse than losing a superbowl. I remember the Cowboys superbowl losses very vividly and they still bother me to this day. The NFC championship loses are not nearly as painful. A super bowl loss with the entire world looking on is horrible. I actually grew up in Redskin country in Virginia Beach, VA. We have lived in Florida for the last 7 years but I have always been a Cowboys fan. My wife is from the Cherry Hill area and her brother, sister, and Mom still live in the area. My brother in law and I give each other a good natured hard time about the Eagles and Boys all the time.

My brother in law and I give each other a good natured hard time about the Eagles and Boys all the time.
Can you really attribute the Eagles losses in the previous playoffs to McNabb Choking? ****, didn't he break his ankle last year? Not to mention he had inadequate recievers.
