View Full Version : Gerry "Gentleman" Cooney VS. Earnie "The Black Destroyer" Shavers
XionComrade 01-04-2006, 05:02 PM Battle of the dudes that punched like something "From another planet!" The two top hardest hitters in Boxing history.
Neither of their chins were very good, but it doesn't matter, first one to get hit is out on a stretcher.
Both had about the same stamina.
Same skills.
Small edge in power to The Black Destroyer
Small edge in speed for The Gentleman
Im 50 50 for this one... :boxing: Either way it doesn't go past 1!!!
Dempsey 1919 01-04-2006, 05:07 PM i'd say shavers, punches harder.
XionComrade 01-04-2006, 05:11 PM Yeah Shavers punches harder, but they both punch WAY to hard for each other, if Cooney hit Shavers it would be the same as if Shavers hit Cooney, either way their going out on a stretcher.
I give a ver small edge to Cooney for his height and reach.
But as Shavers proved beautifully against Holmes, he can rip tall guys heads off to, and is one hella-tough guy!
TheEvilSaint 01-05-2006, 12:40 AM shavers had more power but cooney was better at delivering it.
cooney by early round KO.
paul750 01-05-2006, 12:35 PM Yeah it's a pick em fight, bacically whoever lands the big shot first.
Skydog 01-05-2006, 07:53 PM The two heaviest hitters of all-time. This could be interesting. Like paul750 just said above me, Cooney could hit more often and deliver it more.
Cooney KO 4. After getting floored twice. This would be a much more brutal Foreman-Lyle.
I'm thinking Gerry Cooney by early stoppage. He was a better boxer in my opinion, and also had reach and height advantages. He manages to avoid Shavers' bombs to land his own.
Gerry Cooney by tko2.
XionComrade 01-06-2006, 04:17 PM I have never seen a fighters head get ripped off, has that ever happened? Anything close to it? Well anyway I would say that if it would ever happen it would be in this fight!
brownpimp88 01-28-2007, 08:51 PM cooney would win, he's better imo.
Southpaw Stinger 01-28-2007, 09:30 PM could go either way. 1st big punch that lands ends the fight.
Yaman 01-28-2007, 09:58 PM I somehow see Cooney survive the more aggressive(Im picking the pressure type Shavers on this one) Shavers, and after a while land something. then Shavers goes into his typical ''freezing mode''. If he got hit cleanly a few times, he'd freeze and that would be the end of it.
ceboxer15 01-29-2007, 12:13 AM Great Fight! This would be a hell of a war. Both men would defiently get floored, but in end Cooney wins by KO/TKO in the 5th.
Emon723 01-29-2007, 01:26 AM if it happen in the 80s, I favored Cooney.
SABBATH 01-29-2007, 06:00 AM if it happen in the 80s, I favored Cooney. There were attempts to make this fight and it was supposed to happen in the early 80's prior to Holmes-Cooney. The fight wasn't made because Cooney claimed he was unable due to a bad back.
