I'm a long-time member, and I've been boxing for almost 11 years as a amateur.
Feel free to ask, I'll answer then as I can, becausue of my knee and ankle injury.

I'm 165 and use an 80 pounder, but it swings all over when I hit it.
how come boxing is a lot less popular than it used to be?
tebe6sm 01-05-2006, 04:35 PM Because it requires hard work, and way too many people of America are fatass lazy bastards

what was your training schedule as an amateur at your prime?
Sorry about the lack of replies y'all, getting over a knee injury, so I'm a little consumed right now.
I've yet to reach my prime yet.
I turn 21 on Sunday.
I run roughly 5 miles a day, down here in Houston it's flat as hell, so there is no elevation to speak of.
I'm in the gym roughly 2-3 hrs for training (not including the 45 mins to a hr for weight training or the roadwork), I also work there, so I get to break up my routine quite a bit.
My schedule almost always looks a little like this:
5-6 4 min rds on the heavy bag or double end bag to start off
7-10 4 min rds of in ring work with partner/trainer
6-7 4 min rds on the opposite of the warm up
jumping rope, and hitting the speed bag consumes roughly a hr total.
I can send you a training log if you want.

I currently fight at 173 and I use a custom 150lber, anything less feels like hitting cotton to me.
Just always remember the proper wraps on that type of bag, cause it's like punching a brick until properly broken in.
somtimes after 3 ounds of sparing my lower back starts to hurt. How can i fix this problem?
I use to have a similar problem, I fixed it through weight training and deep stretching, and a deep tissue massage atleast once a week.
Dead lifts, wood chops, and reverse sit ups (a.k.a. weighted Back Extensions) are a must.
something like 3-4 sets at 70% of your max for about 13 reps is what I do usually.
how come boxing is a lot less popular than it used to be?
Because people are basically a bunch of bitches compared to the people of the past in general.
It's a basic pussification of the world.

It's a plan, but I want to be trully comfortable and accomplish everything I set out to on a amateur level.
