Wow, Butterfly, I'm impressed, I never knew you had that much. I noticed you didn't put up Ali vs. Williams, and I posted it in a thread on here, so check it out.

Ah, finally someone who has Frazier vs. Stander. What do you think about it? I thought Joe looked great against Stander.

You seem to have the wrong Louis fights for a fan (Charles, Marciano, Walcott) though you're not a fan, but if you want to see Louis at his best, just give me a holler and I can upload any time you want.

I thought Joe looked great against Stander.

Yeah?

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying Frazier looked "great" in that fight, considering the opponent he was up against...but he did show off things you didn't normally see from him, especially when he was sticking and moving towards the end of the fight. Joe also threw & landed a few more solid right hands than normal in that fight, as well, but he also took a couple from Stander in return, which appeared to stagger/stun him somewhat in the first round (from memory, Stander also landed some good shots at the beginning of the third or fourth round, too).

A fun fight to watch and a good effort by both fighters, but I thought Stander's postfight interview was just about the hilite of the night...You won't find too many more genuinely humble men than what the busted up Stander showed right after the fight.

Yeah, sure you can...You're LYING!

Your little scan doesn't prove a damn thing, my friend, as all I saw there was a photo of one of the first two Zale/Graziano fights...Big deal! I have some photos of Harry Greb in fight action, but everybody in this world knows that no fight footage of Greb's is being viewed nowadays by anybody.

Check ANY single fight collector on the net or otherwise, and you will NOT see any of those six fights listed as part of their collection...Ringwise, BoxingVideoClassics, Tony from Chicago (last name eludes me at the moment, but he's a SERIOUS fight collector), etc., etc...None of them have any of those six fights!

Oh, and I noticed Bill Cayton's name on their, yes?

Yeah, I see Bill Cayton, who along with Jim Jacobs formed Big Fights Inc., which was by far the largest fight collection in the world. It might be worth noting that Cayton himself was asked if he had fight footage of the first two Zale/Graziano fights, and he said he only had a radio broadcast of those fights & didn't have the actual video of them...You know why he said that? Because in Bill Cayton's own words;

"They were never filmed."

You'd have to ask Rasta why he claims to have fights that don't exist on film, my friend, because I don't know why he'd say that either.

P.S. My **** measures two feet in length and one foot in diameter...See how easy it is?!

Alright, I was just exchanging e-mails with a very serious fight collector whose been collecting fights for 20+ years and has managed to accumalate 15,000+ fights (from all eras starting with the 1890's) during that time span. I asked him if it was possible for anybody to have footage of the first five Robinson/LaMotta from the early/mid 40's or the first two Zale/Graziano fights and he said no, it's not possible, with one very tiny exception...He stated that he "recently tracked down a few very brief seconds" of Zale/Graziano II, which was "shot by an audience member using a home video camera". He also stated that "very brief seconds" glimpse of someone's rare "home video" footage from Zale/Graziano II is all anybody will ever see nowadays, and the fight was not known to be broadcast to the general public.

Besides a few "very brief seconds" nothing else exists from those six fights that Rasta claims to have seen (and I've looked around at a number of serious fight collector's sites)...I'll apologize for not knowing about the rare home video footage of Zale/Graziano II (which Rasta may or may not have), but that still doesn't change the fact that he's outright lying about the other ones.

you know what you little *****. At first i was gonna let you think what you wanted to but then i decided naaaaaahhhh teach this little ****in kid a lesson. So what i did was take pics of my tv while its playing the Zale Fight with Graziano,

LOL!

LOL!

LOL!

Oh ****...why the hell would I do something like that when it's obvious those photos from your television are from Zale/Graziano III (the shade of their respective trunks gives it away...Graziano in black with the slightly lighter stripe. Zale in a shade just a bit lighter than black), which is a fight that every longtime boxing fan has seen on multiple occasions?

**** bro, I have that third fight between them, as well, as do most boxing fans who built up some sort of collection.

You still haven't proven yourself anything but a ****ing LIAR, but if you want to prove ME wrong, then I tell you what you can do...

You say you have all three of the Zale/Graziano fights, right? Well, the one photo you posted earlier shows Graziano wearing light trunks in one of those fights (it's obviously one of the first two, because they're both wearing dark trunks for the third fight)...Do the exact same thing you just tried to do today and take a photo of your television screen where Graziano is wearing those light coloured trunks against Zale. It should be easy for you, right?

Oh, and the best of luck with that you ****ing LIAR! :p

Yogi

In one photo of the Zale/Graziano fights, Graziano appears to be wearing light coloured trunks with a dark strip (provided that still box photo that Rasta posted earlier is of Zale/Graziano). Here's what he's wearing in a different fight between the two and it shows him wearing what appears to be silvered coloured trunks;

But unlike this other guy, Rasta, I know for a fact that what you claim to have is what you actually have...even the rather jumpy footage of both those rare Jeffries fights you took photos of, because that's what I see on screen from those two fights (that black mark in the upper left corner is on my Jeffries/Sharkey copy, as well, but at least that footage is much clearer than what is shown in Jeffries/Ruhlin).

I thought the Jeffies Ruhlan fight was clear

I just took a peak at Jeffries/Ruhlin and yeah, you're right, as it is pretty clear up until just a few seconds before that photo you took. It does have some slight water/moisture damage throughout (upper-middle, mostly), but you can see the action pretty clearly up until about three or four seconds before that knockdown you posted.

yeah for a few mins any way lol.
But I can go futher and have John L Sullivan hit the bag, or spar with Corbett. He was a OLD man of couse, when that was film, But you do see in him doing that mock sparing with Corbett, He was pretty good at feiting, and he may had a pretty sneaky right hand, it gives hints of what Sullivan must of been like in his prime. Maybe he was not the bar room brawler we heard of.

You lucky bastard!

Yeah, I think there was much more to Sullivan than what is said nowadays by modern fans, and I think the Corbett title fight paints him in the completely wrong way...He was in his mid 30's by then, and was also pretty out of shape & fighting about ten to fifteen pounds over his best fighting weight, which some would tell you was around 195 or so. If you go back and look over the fight reports of his from earlier in his career (Brooklyn Daily Eagle has a bunch), you could see his skills were talked about in a much, much more positive light than what they were in the Corbett fight.

Just from what I've read, I view a prime Sullivan as a pretty quick fighter of both hand and foot, who could rely somewhat on the straight one-two combination. Also quite the powerful puncher who routinely threw exceptionally hard punches to the body with both hands. And like you say, there's descriptions of him feinting his opponents and out thinking them in some of his fights...I'd say he was much more of a multi-talented slugger, rather than just a pure straight forward & slow brawler than he's often labeled nowadays.

my new fight and one of my favs is Adamek vs Briggs.

Dempsey1238
01-06-2006, 05:55 PM
yeah Sullivan was shot.

Not relly what I judge on a PRIME Sullivan.

But out of the Corbett fight, I will do think Corbett, could complete today. Thats my view. He moves, and fights so much like Ali. He EVEN Glides just like Ali at times(The one time, he glide that I rember good, was a shot to the head, and a shot to the body going back vs Fitz.)

They both lean away from shots, and have no inside plan of cliching. Both have there hands dangling to there knees.

Now because it was film in 1897, I have a hard time with one thing, How fast is Corbett?? We cant relly tell on this.
The old timers called Corbett the fastest heavyweight on foot in the time.

And When Clay as he was called than,(Before he won the title) The old timers were comparing Ali's foot speed on the level of Corbett. So Corbett must have been pretty quick.

Corbett when in the clichs, Also TURN Fitz around and toss him on the inside to get out of the clichs. Ali held the back of the head.

There differnts sure of there styles. But they are ALMOST alike.

Ali of couse had the better chin than Corbett. But it has to take a HECK of a shot to knockout Corbett. Corbett did not have a glass chin.
But he can be knock out with a time hard shot, like Jeffies and Fitz prove.

I would not count the loses in the 1900's against Corbett, as he was in his 30's and pass his prime. And he lost his speed. Ali had the chin, when he lost his speed.

Yogi
01-06-2006, 06:21 PM
Greek, I've only seen a small portion of Corbett's fight with Fitz and just a little bit of his exhibition fight with Courtney. I really can't accurately judge what I saw of Corbett because of those reasons, but he did look to have very good footwork ("glide" is a good word for it) and threw combinations with some regularity...But again, that's only from very limited viewing of him.

In regards to your question about how fast a fighter appears on those old fight films (which, depending on the man holding the crank camera's speed at which he turns it, could be either sped up or slowed down), all I really try to do is judge a fighter speed against his opponent's for that fight (which, if you have other fight footage of the fighters, you can compare down the line). I also do put some element of trust into what the old-timers said about a fighter or fighters, for the simple fact that they have seen those old-time fighters live and have room to compare.

A Small Part of the fight??? The highlights of round 1 and 14, is my guess.

I have 5 rounds,

1 6 and 14 are the ROUNDS I know.

I have no ideal what number are the other 2 rounds are. It seems that only 5 rounds made it, it runs about 20 mins, due to speed and all.

I'd have to dig out to be sure, but I don't even think I have the 14th round of that fight, because the KO is not something I can bring to memory at the moment. I think I might only have the first round, because even though the footage seemed to be slowed down quite a bit, I got the impression that the fighters were quite fresh (based on the way Corbett was moving and Fitzsimmons' difficulty in landing counter shots against Corbett, who was getting in & getting out quickly enough). Even then, I don't even think it's the full round...Not very much of it, at all. :(

Yeah, that might be suprising considering both the significance/historical value of footage from the Fitzsimmons/Corbett fight and the fact that it's not all that difficult to find. I'm sure I'll get around to obtaining the five rounds eventually, but...I'm more of a Jeffries & Sharkey fan than I am of those other two, so that's probably the single biggest reason why I obtained that pretty rare Jeffries' footage first.

I HATE to break it 2 you. 1 6 9 10.

Round 1 is a later round(I guessing round 3 , I going to recheck my espn one, and recheck what round that is, BUT I KNOW ITS NOT THE FIRST ROUND)

Round 6 is right.

Round 9 is right.

But round ten is part of round ten, than they cut it, and give you MOST of round 4.

In Round 4, Dempsey ALMOST drops Tunney. (See the pic.)

The cut in round 4 is AFTER that. So you dont see the near knockdown, BUT it is still round 4.

Oh, I'll live, I think, and what you said doesn't shock me all that much, because like I said I made that observation about Tunney appearing quite "fresh" during what they called the tenth round...

And you know, I think I'll have to go over some more of my older fights that were broadcast by ESPN (the incomplete fights mostly), and if I make that same kind of "fresh" observation in others, I think I'll have to look into it more just to see if they're lying once again...I would expect I have one or more other fights like that and I'd be suprised if I didn't.

whats the quality of 1920's film like, does it make the boxers look bad? is it watchable?

Depends on the fight it self. Some old fight films are BAD in viewing because they have decay over time, and other times, they are in good viewing order.

Dempsey Tunney 1 or 2 are in good viewing order, While Walker Hudking are poor in viewing.

Depends on the fight it self.

I say for the most part it is watchable, Also rember the speed might not always be right as the camerals were hand crank. So if the guy crank it too fast, The fighters will appear fast, slow, and they are slow down.

Dempsey Tunney 2 is pretty fast, while Dempsey Willard has about the fight speed(Theater version, NOT Espn version)

it was a mistake lol.

I was thinking of the Sharkey fight, when I type in the Dempsey Tunney 1 fight lol.

The Sharkey fight is complete, WHEN you get over your guilt trip of couse.
All 7 rounds. May take a few veiwings, as the film is poor, more of the case to ID who is who. But when you look at there styles, you can tell who is Sharkey and who is Dempsey. Not the best in film viewing, but I SEEN Worse of the old fights.

Dempsey1238
01-15-2006, 04:31 PM
ok, not telling you to update it. Only OLD people dont update lol.

I only kidding of couse, I update, and will have to update more.

Lamotta, vs Murphy and Ali vs Folly,

I will give Ali Folly this, What a borning fight, I never belive Ali and Folly 2 fighters, can go a few rounds with out thowing punchs.

Oh, you want a boring fight? Louis v Pastor I.

Geez...Pastor might as well have come to the ring with sneakers on.

Dempsey1238
01-15-2006, 06:24 PM
I have that fight lol.

ten rounds of Louis trying to land a ko blow(in his own, way of couse, not like Dempsey or Marciano) and ten rounds of Pastor running and not punching lol.

Loads from BBC, ITV, Eurosport and Sky Sports from late 80's and early 90's. Everybody, Bruno, Tyson, Benn, Eubank, Chavez, Taylor, Whitaker, McGuigan, Honeyghan, Curry, McCallum, Graham, blabla.

I also have a lot of Nigel Benn's amateur fights for West Ham that were on Grandstand, and a teenage Mike Tyson coming through the ranks on Grandstand. Which I cherish because it's those fights which got me into boxing - Tyson and Benn were my hero's.
