He is underrated overall though. So many people have slept on his albums...he's put out 6 good-great CDs as well as some hot mixtape **** too. On top of that you factor in timeless hip hop songs like Sugar Hill and Mo Money Mo Murda and it amounts to a guy that not many even consider to be a top 20 emcee all-time. I guess what I just said applies to a lot of the people who I was going to list though so yeah I guess I'll look at it as lyricists who are underrated. Pharoahe Monch Tech N9ne K-Rino Capital D Keith Murray You never heard of these guys? RAESAAD 01-01-2006, 08:25 PM Lets be real and talk about cats people heard of....BiG Boi from Outkast is a great lyricist and nobody gives ya mam his Cred so I will here he is very underrated. While I mentioned Pharoahe...I forgot to mention Prince Po, who was an excellent lyricist in his own right. Cee-Lo is an underrated lyricist. "I have milleniums of material and rivers of rhythm, an entire ocean of emotion that's enlightening to swim in, also a forest of feeling beaten paths of peace, trapped inside my silhouette I have to speak to release" J-Live is a somewhat overlooked and obscure emcee. He's a very nice lyricist. Also, Jim Jones :D chito 01-02-2006, 07:48 AM eddie brickel and natalie merchant. Darkstar 01-03-2006, 04:04 AM Project Pat JDizzle79 01-03-2006, 04:10 AM joe budden...he says some real **** on his album. wish he would drop another one just as good here soon Soliloquy 01-03-2006, 12:27 PM Chamillionaire. Im just wonderin ccuz I have affairs and cant find any other material, which upsets me. He has no other SOLO album besides Internal Affairs. His best work came with Prince Po, the other half of the incredible group named Organized Konfusion. They dropped three albums...all three are tight, but the one you need to get your hands on is "Stress: The Extinction Agenda". Sis stay up with my thread i'll up some very representative songs of who Pharoahe and Organized Konfusion were. oldgringo 01-03-2006, 10:55 PM Monch was also with Rawkus for a long time and did some good **** on the soundbombing and lyricist lounge albums. sisforshaq 01-03-2006, 10:55 PM He has no other SOLO album besides Internal Affairs. I think I only have The Extinction Agenda and Equinox. oldgringo 01-29-2006, 06:30 PM Gift of Gab hell yeah...gab is real nice on the mic. 'Whole house freeze!' It was a Thursday I stepped to the club, there she was Draped in a burgundy dress, silhouetted superbly Curved indeed, she started staring in my direction Luring and urging seductively, body language instructing me I offered her a drink instead she took a cup of tea And then I lied about my luxury lifestyle I said 'So who you be? You looking kind of tight, gal I would love to see you in a nightgown' She said 'They call me the Dragon Queen and I come from Tibet I'm calm in the face of pressure and you'll never see me sweat I've come to your country in search of a lost Scroll That contains directions to a hidden village comprised of gold' I looked at her confused and said 'But why have you told me this?' She said the description that I fit Was that of the Chosen One who'd go beyond Then slipped a concoction in my drink Immediately set my consciousness adrift Now I'm in that zone dwelling, I woke in a warehouse tied to a chair With an abundance of flair surrounding me in a circular angle Glared up at the Dragon Queen's lair, wasn't imagining a thing Her steps on the stairs had a magic Gleam, glowed brightly To prepare me for my journey a Sword was hovering towards me Plus garlic from the Keepers of the Gate who bore all the secrets and take Care of trespassers, but at last it's prophesied that I would gain Access to a cultural dynasty buried and seize and capture the Scroll Massive helicopters patrolled the rooftops, strapped in Began travelling into the darkness, knew not of what awaited Thought of a way to get out of it, just then the bottom gave way I began falling and gave it ten seconds, pulled the cord on my parachute Landed surrounded by a herd of wild barracudas, lions The sounds of the wild kingdom piercing like a siren Was I entering near the mere mortal life span's end? Defiantly I stood boldly as they began closing in And time seemed to be moving rapidly just then 'Whole house freeze!' Just then I pulled the Sword and somehow It affected all the creatures as they stepped back and bowed And the same Glow that I seen in the Sword I seen in the eyes of the Lion Who began leading me in a specific direction as if trying to tell me something Just over the horizon, the same creatures who had been described Appeared in statue form but their eyes scoped And as I approached the gate they began to break open and cried 'AFTER YEARS WE HAVE FINALLY BEEN AWAKENED!' The assault was on, I got knocked to the ground by one Shocked in an unorthodox form boxing Throwing an abnormal proportion of body blows, karate chops And drop kicks, plunged struggling deeper into the swamp Then I grabbed my Sword, the garlic put it around my neck Saw that it was draining all of their energy and then with a swing Off with their heads! The gates slowly and mysteriously opened So curiously I moseyed in with intensity focusing on my objective Spider webs the size of king-size beds Fell into a secret passage not knowing to where it lead Just then the same Light beamed brightly and in the distance At that instance, lo and behold, the hidden Scroll! And just as I thought my mission was over I could feel the Dragon Queen breathing heavily over my shoulder As she began to transform and metamorphosise She took on an assortment of legs, arms, heads and eyes And sprouted two horns and began to breathe fire So once again I grabbed my trusty Sword but to my astonishment She burned it to a crisp turned and grasped the Scroll And exited much faster than secreted gas, I'm gasping Clasp full of flames cast in my direction I saw my whole life flash and the possibility of death And a casket passed into the ground, pound for pound, astounding How could I survive and last another round inside this madness? this song is pure madness... MetalVomit 01-29-2006, 07:23 PM OG, have you heard "My pad and pen" from The Craft album? Lyrically, impossible. The Fix 01-30-2006, 02:16 AM yeah, that's just a compilation of b-sides and side project tracks. Monch's only album is Internal Affairs. thats what i was thinking cause i was searching for an official release but all that came up was forum rumors and ****... jspivey 01-30-2006, 03:46 PM Kurupt Xzibit E-40 The Fix 01-30-2006, 07:54 PM kurupt fell off..... ciscofromoc 02-13-2006, 12:25 AM As dude said earlier,, Chamillionaire is a great lyricist, another great one is in ATL by the name of T-Rock formerly with Hypnotize Minds. Two Fisted Piston 02-13-2006, 06:59 AM Canibus is the best underated lyricist that I can think of at the moment... The dudes vocab is ****in amazing, wordplay is crazy, flow is tight, metaphors are better than GZAs. Wordsworth is a sick underground cat... He is also an amazing lyricist Masta Killa,Inspecta Deck,Killah Priest(similar to Canibus),Ghostface are all underated aswell lopez12 02-16-2006, 03:45 PM Im glad somebody is givin AZ some props he is one of the nicest Im dyin to hear a Nas Az album, i guess AZ would have to get sales up 1st though 2nd II none 02-16-2006, 05:25 PM Kurupt Xzibit E-40 Those two are lyrical assassins. MetalVomit 02-16-2006, 05:57 PM Crooked I, Chino XL, Kurupt, Tech N9ne, Ras Kass...are all underrated. 2nd II none 02-18-2006, 12:04 AM I honestly have to throw Method Man into any conversation about lyrical skills. lopez12 02-22-2006, 11:46 AM GURU of Gangstarr Big R 02-22-2006, 04:31 PM fat joe... nisMOFO 02-22-2006, 07:54 PM I honestly have to throw Method Man into any conversation about lyrical skills. i agree with that. Method man and kurupt. SecondRoundKO 02-26-2006, 04:50 AM Lyrics Born... IAm... 02-26-2006, 02:48 PM Lyrics Born... anyone got any old school/underground Xzibit? the traveler 03-02-2006, 06:51 PM I agree with the guy that said Guru. Ras Kass is in no way an underrated lyricist. Everyone that listens to the guy, says that he's one of the top lyricist. Also, Canibus isn't an underrated lyricist, are you serious? Just about 7 years ago people were calling him one of the greatest lyricist ever. He definetly gets his respects in that area. I'd say that the most underrated lyricist has to be Tupac. I've been on alot of rap boards, and the general opinion on them is that he's overrated and has average lyrical skills. For something like that to be said about a guy that dropped alot of heartfelt and deep lyrics, shows that he's one of the most underrated lyricist in rap. jspivey 03-02-2006, 08:13 PM Andre from OutKast Styles P MJG (8ball does spit fire, but i don't people give MJG enough props. Dude is ill) And i'm goin out on a limb but i throw in Ja Rule too.Besides the bubblegum hits dude could spit when he wanted too. |
