Update: The fight will take place at 130 pounds. Both sides have agreed to terms.
----------
It's official. *********.com can confirm that superstars Erik “El Terrible” Morales and Manny Pacquiao will "Bring it On" Saturday, March 19 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena in a 12 round super featherweight bout. The fight will be distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View. The fighters will discuss this match-up at a press conference to be held in Los Angeles. The fight came together after purse demands by Juan Manuel Marquez torpedoed a February 26 rematch with Pacquiao. Pacquiao and Morales were originally slated to fight in the summer. The card will be promoted by Top Rank in association with Murad Muhammad.

Guaranteed to be a good fight. Erik has got a good chin. I cant wait to see this, although I dont like Morales too much.
AND **** ANORAK for giving out bad karma just because people share their opinion about your hometown hero(?!?) Danny Williams.

really gonna be a great fight..
its about time to test the granite chin of eric..
That's because of JMM. He wants a huge purse now he left in the cold. I can't blame JMM because he is making sure he will get a good retirement benefits. lol
Pagan 01-10-2005, 08:18 PM Pac was in the gym today sparring... he looks real fast and sharp even at this stage 8 weeks out.
Should be an incredible fight. :)

the granite chin of eric vs the hammer-like hands of manny
great match!
SalvaDominicano 01-10-2005, 08:35 PM how bout eriks demolishing punches vs pac's tested but "truly" untested chin.
SalvaDominicano 01-10-2005, 08:35 PM what the hell happened with JMM's training now? i guess he should take on Chi.
( do ) 01-10-2005, 08:43 PM what the hell happened with JMM's training now? i guess he should take on Chi.
what about a rematch with salido? :D
THRILLAinmanila 01-10-2005, 08:44 PM Morales, JMM, any of these two will make a good fight for Pac.
MArch 19 will be a better date for him too so he can have more time to
prepare. And at least he gets the chance to face Erik before he decides
to move up in weight. :)
THRILLAinmanila 01-10-2005, 08:46 PM how bout eriks demolishing punches vs pac's tested but "truly" untested chin.
After MAB and JMM I would think that Pac's chin has already tested and survived the best punches from the hombres.
Chups 01-10-2005, 08:47 PM Marquez should take on 3K Fhasan...let's see him demand 1.75 million :D
Hurlex 01-10-2005, 08:49 PM i hate morales..but i still think he's a class above pac and will beat him or possibly ko him late...morales takes fighters like pac to school and finished them off,pac cant box..he comes with a lot of pressure and power...but thats something morales is good at beating...so hell yeah it gonna be a great fight...for the first time..i really do hope sends morales to the canvas and hard
_____
so for sure pac/jmm is off???...i bet jmm will take on winner or something
deuce_drop 01-10-2005, 08:50 PM what the hell happened with JMM's training now? i guess he should take on Chi.
he aint gonna make as much cash fighting chi, like he would've if he fought pac.... i think it is a silly financial move.

LOL hurlex I got lost on your post on who you really want to win. But what the hell, its gonna be a hell of a fight. And Pac is gotta beat the hell out of Morales the same way he did to MAB :D :p
deuce_drop 01-10-2005, 08:59 PM i like pac in this one. morales will fall into mannys fight plan in this fight. if barrera was able to hurt morales in there first fight, an all out slugfest. then pac will for surely ko him. he is way more relentless then barrera, and a lefty with power in either hand. and morales didn't look to sharp in his last fight. any way you look at it though, it is a pick'em kind of fight, cause both these guys are brawlers. i like both but i'm going with pac on this one. pac wins 8th rd ko!!!
THRILLAinmanila 01-10-2005, 09:04 PM If anything, this will be Pac's first appearance on an HBO pay-per-view main event so that should boost his stock and popularity ... ;)
bandito 01-10-2005, 09:05 PM well it will be a great fight. i like manny and i hate morales but i still dont' know who i want to win. that mexican pride is coming in and it's hard to choose even though i hate morales. right now im leaning toward pacquaio!! hopefully barrera and marquez can know square off and the winners face each other!!
bytee 01-10-2005, 09:10 PM but whos a possible opponent for JMM that will earn him 1.5 M?
THRILLAinmanila 01-10-2005, 09:11 PM Marquez should take on 3K Fhasan...let's see him demand 1.75 million :D
So , now with Pac out of the picture who's the big name left for JMM to fight and ask for the gazillions? In Jin Chi ? Harrison? He should have said ok to the Pac fight.........
All Of This Just Ended Up Happening Today
bandito 01-10-2005, 09:12 PM So , now with Pac out of the picture who's the big name left for JMM to fight and ask for the gazillions? In Jin Chi ? Harrison? He should have said ok to the Pac fight.........
like i just said, hopefully marquez and barrera fight each other and then the winners face off!!
4 words
FIGHT OF THE YEAR
lol then we might c a barrera morales 4
THRILLAinmanila 01-10-2005, 09:15 PM like i just said, hopefully marquez and barrera fight each other and then the winners face off!!
MAB-JMM will never happen as long as they stay in the camp of GBP
bandito 01-10-2005, 09:17 PM or a pac vs barrera 2. marquez vs pacquiao 2
bandito 01-10-2005, 09:18 PM MAB-JMM will never happen as long as they stay in the camp of GBP
yeah, well arum needs to stop being a *****!!
Nodogoshi 01-10-2005, 09:20 PM I think this should be an interesting fight. Morales is bigger and stronger then Barrera but also slower and he should be more hittable than Marquez. Still, 130 seems like alot of weight for Pacman and the 2 inches or so height advantage is gonna really show when these guys get into the ring. I am inclined to favor Morales in this fight due to his size, and possibly his style, but I can see Pacquiou winning. I'll be on Pacmans side though.
mr. bojangles 01-10-2005, 09:26 PM JMMarquez-Barrera never happened all these years. It's gotta happen this year! JMM is not getting any younger and so is MAB. I really wanna see how Barrera handles this master counterpuncher.

who's the fighter youtr talking about...i'm pretty sure pac is ahead of those that you have in mind, probably not even close...manny is the one taking fighters like mab to school of hard knockdowns, those who don't respect or underestimate his power, especially if they wanna go toe to toe and trade punches with him.
just look at mab & jmm...they learned their lessons the hard way...
JaNnO 01-10-2005, 09:47 PM he aint gonna make as much cash fighting chi, like he would've if he fought pac.... i think it is a silly financial move.
beristain's nerve got the better of him...i think he's the one who's afraid of pac...afraid of losing his milking cow...that's why he wants to milk it slowly...but he figured wrong about murad/arum/hbo... :p
JaNnO 01-10-2005, 09:49 PM i like pac in this one. morales will fall into mannys fight plan in this fight. if barrera was able to hurt morales in there first fight, an all out slugfest. then pac will for surely ko him. he is way more relentless then barrera, and a lefty with power in either hand. and morales didn't look to sharp in his last fight. any way you look at it though, it is a pick'em kind of fight, cause both these guys are brawlers. i like both but i'm going with pac on this one. pac wins 8th rd ko!!!
manny said it better...that morales proved to be a relatively easy opponent...i'm not sure if he's talkin in reference to jmm tho...but it looked like it.

his team thought that they are smart to ask for $1.5m, who knows thay have a fallback plan. but i think they made a blunder on this one...they thought jmm is worth that much...now they realize he's not so hot as they thought he was... :p
JaNnO 01-10-2005, 09:56 PM like i just said, hopefully marquez and barrera fight each other and then the winners face off!!
like i said it is foolish for jmm to move up to 130 and it will be foolish for mab to give up his belt to fight a jmm...besides who's going to fight a boring fighter and i don't think mab has the balls to go toe to toe with jmm...he learned that from pacquiao.

MAB-JMM is a long shot they're avoiding each other :D
This is a lot easier fight than fighting the Counterpunching freak. Morales may trade anytime in the fight and we know what will happen if he do that. MAB & JMM didnt hurt PAC.... therefore Erik WILL NOT do it his power stayed at 122.
Morales' success at 130 was brought about NOT by his ability to hurt opponent BUT by his workrate. and nobody outworks PACMAN. ;)

Very logical indeed :)
It's the ****s that JMM and Pac couldn't make it happen, but at least we'll get to see the next installment in the "Mexican Trilogy". Unfortunately for Morales, he's very willing to take shots, even very early in the fight. Sure he's got "boxing" skills that Pac can only dream of, but Pac's simply gonna' tag him way too much early in this fight.
If it goes to later rounds, which it should, Erik won't be connecting the way he did with Barrera, simply because Pac doesn't take any rounds off. Erik better bring his best version of stick-n-run.
oldgringo 01-10-2005, 10:27 PM Thank god this fight is finally happening. Morales will come into the fight light and quick. Look for Morales to dictate the pace and keep Manny on the outside with his jab and straight right hand. This fight will look nothing like the Barerra fight. That whole "Barerra beat Morales and Manny beat Barerra so Manny will beat Morales" thing is dumb. Now for toney/klit baby.

By the way even though im Mexican i wasnt surprised when Pac beat MAB.

I bet that he can't do that all night...why?... he'll be open for that left straight all night if he does that...and you know what happens next. don't you think manny will just stand there and let morales dictate the tempo. i don't think so. if morales decides toe to toe wit pac, then he'll find the canvass. however, i think this is going to be a tactical fight if pac doesn't ko erik in the first three round. i know they will try to do that early...who knows? or manny can capitalize on his stamina to wear erik out in the latter rounds then go for the kill.

all i'm saying is..it can go either way...and i think it's better not to underestimate both fighters skills/ abilities and each other's chances.
oldgringo 01-10-2005, 10:45 PM i think i already heard similar argument before mab-pac, that mab is this and that... and then what happened?
Morales and Barerra are two different fighters...Morales has only lost to Barerra who he hates...its a bad style matchup. theres nothing that indicates that Morales/Pac will be the same.

We can't size up Morales just based on his fights with Barerra. Morales does everything well as far as his offensive arsenal. He throws from all angles. IF...IF Morales decides to go t2t with Manny his chin won't let him down. I give both guys respect and think this will be a close bout that'll go to the cards. If Pac gets Erik with that left early it'll be a bad night for Erik. Conversely, if Morales comes into the fight at a good weight (not 15 pounds overweight) then he will put on a masterful performance and keep Pac off balance landing crisp, hard shots from range.

okay...let's just see if you're right...i hope erik's machismo doesn't follow him 'coz if he decides to brawl pac...i'm pretty sure he'll have the shock of his life. i've got a feeling pac's confidence was boosted after morales' showing against mab.

Actually I Like each other's chances of winning this fight. I'm pretty sure this will be an exciting match, probably a fight of the year contender. I know Morales is a well-rounded fighter and Pac carries that big left straight, quick and has good stamina. I hope both come prepared and give us the fight we all want to see.

Well Janno, who knows what kind of Morales we'll get. I was shocked with the Morales that showed up in the 3rd Barerra fight. I think he won't let his loss take him down however. We don't give Morales enough credit for his ability to brawl. He CAN take it to you. He almost had Barerra hurt in the 11th when they were brawling and almost had him down twice in the 12th when the fight was an all out brawl as well.

Well I guess you're right, I think Barrera can brawl alright. But I'm inclined to give Pac more chances of surviving a brawl and hurting his opponent because I've seen what happened to his opponents when they decide to take it to him (not that I'm a big fan of his). In MAB-EM 3, I think that part of the reason why MAB almost went down in the last rounds is due to exhaustion. He was clearly the more active between the two especially in the early rounds.

This is exactly what we all thought of prior to MAB-EM 3. But, we were wrong, Barrera was quicker and Morales didn't stick to boxing - he slugged it out (against the advise of his corner)...just as he always does. Morales hates boxing, he wants to fight. That's just the perfect style for the PacMan, they're made for each other. It's not gonna be a tactical fight, Pacquiao is not a technician - he's a fighter. One of this fighters will go down.

Everybody thought he was the bigger puncher than Chavez, Hernandez and Barrera...but, he didn't stop them actually.
Let's turn the tables here, let's see how El Terrible's chin will hold up against Pac's lightning-quick left straight.

I agree that Barerra was very tired...but so was Erik. And furthermore...I think it shows what kind of fight we'll see from Erik if this fight with Pac does go the distance. Erik took an early beating from Barerra but was still strong enough to almost put him down and hurt him in the 12th. Both guys will certainly have to be in top form...I'm sure they will be.

I was disappointed in the Morales that showed on the third fight. Almost as if he'd rather be somewhere else that night, not a scared look... he looked almost bored.

I agree about people thinking that Morales would be the better guy against Barerra in the last fight. MAny thought he'd just overpower and outclass him.
I think you are a bit off however when you say Erik hates to box. Morales hates to box....AGAINST BARERRA. I think he just hates MAB so much he feels inclined to make the fight into a raw slugfest. He is one of the better pure boxers in boxing when he actually decides to do it. He reminds me of Thomas Hearns in a way. When he boxes he can be masterful but he really loves to mix in the brawling whenever possible.

Agreed. He looked lethargic and unmotivated. I hope he'll be into the Pac fight so people will get some piece of mind on who the best of this 126-130 lot is.

Check out his fights against Junior Jones, Paulie Ayala, and In-Jin Chi. He dominated Ayala...KO'd Jones (who has beaten Barerra badly twice), and had his hands full in an exciting fight with In-Jin Chi.
mr. bojangles 01-10-2005, 11:47 PM I agree about people thinking that Morales would be the better guy against Barerra in the last fight.
Exactly.
He's a good boxer, if and when he decides to be scientific/tactical in a fight. But you know what, from what I see in my El Terrible fight collection...his boxing is just 'sporadic' - he can't/unable to stick to it, he'll be boxing in a few rounds and eventually he'll be drawn into a brawl...it's like he just throws boxing out of the window and goes to war. Not just against Barrera.

Thanks pareng Mai. I only found Morales-Jones so far.
Mr. Violence 01-11-2005, 12:15 AM Oh damn...In my opinion Morales has less of a chance of beating Pacman than JMM does. Morales may have a good chin but Pacman throws "murder bombs". Morales is dead man walking.

"Dead man walking" starring Sean penn and Susan Sarandon. :D

Yeah something like that. Pimp slap then he's gonna get raped in the you know where. :D
Pinoy_Texan 01-11-2005, 04:15 AM Man I never thought this fight would happen. I thought Erik was going up in weight to 135 lbs before fighting Pac. Shame the fight with Marquez didn't go through. I really wanted to see if he did figure out Pac. Oh well, out with old in with the new. I can't wait for the fight to happen. :D
evosbm 01-11-2005, 05:23 AM i hate morales..but i still think he's a class above pac and will beat him or possibly ko him late...morales takes fighters like pac to school and finished them off,pac cant box..he comes with a lot of pressure and power...but thats something morales is good at beating...so hell yeah it gonna be a great fight...for the first time..i really do hope sends morales to the canvas and hard
_____
so for sure pac/jmm is off???...i bet jmm will take on winner or something
well he fails to win over the pressure and power of MAB. and MAB's is just far much less than Pac. EM had never faught anybody like Pacman. none of them had except MAB and JMM.
evosbm 01-11-2005, 06:11 AM Well Janno, who knows what kind of Morales we'll get. I was shocked with the Morales that showed up in the 3rd Barerra fight. I think he won't let his loss take him down however. We don't give Morales enough credit for his ability to brawl. He CAN take it to you. He almost had Barerra hurt in the 11th when they were brawling and almost had him down twice in the 12th when the fight was an all out brawl as well.
pfffft... you call that almost KD by Morales? cmon man, you know it was a slip when MAB lost his balance there. i never saw Morales doin' such performance in their fight. peace. ;)
i think i already heard similar argument before mab-pac, that mab is this and that... and then what happened?
Janno, my friend. MAB was everything that was said "before" his fight with Pac. I think we should believe that his very ****ty performance was at least in part due to training interruptions (as MAB claimed). I've accepted that the injury to Pac's left foot affected his peformance against Marquez (as Pac has claimed). They both have excuses, it's just that one guy (MAB) got TKO'd because of his "training interruptions", Pac just wasn't able to finish-off Marquez because of his "sore foot".
chito 01-12-2005, 05:46 AM What does that have to do with anything?
By the way even though im Mexican i wasnt surprised when Pac beat MAB.
it's pac's heart that will make him invulnerable to morales' punches. his conditioning and roach's fight plan will do him tricks to beat erik morales. i can sense what you're trying to say here that morales will hit pacman with his solid punches but pacquiao could hit him, too. this is a war, im sure morales will go toe to toe with pacquiao. although i can see either boxer wins, i will go for pacquiao because i know he could do it just like the last time he did it with barrera. God, i can't wait for this fight to happen. i hope it happens next week so i will no longer wait.

i agree with you and will attest to your observation. barrera just won't give up because his heart was as big as mexico. pacquiao puts all his hearts, too whenever he fights. so even if morales gives his all and throw and hit everything, it's the power that will decide the outcome of this fight. my question, who's got the hardest punch of the two? the answer is pacquiao, that's why in my humble opinion, he will win.

once Pac felt like he's gonna kill EM with his own fists, victory is asured.
