View Full Version : Pacquiao vs Morales
Saint3605 01-10-2005, 12:22 AM Various sources have told MaxBoxing that on March 19th Erik Morales will take on Manny Pacquiao on HBO Pay-Per-View.
There had been much speculation as to just who Pacquiao would be fighting next. Many believed that the Filipino superstar would face Juan Manuel Marquez in a highly anticipated rematch on February 26th, but the fight was never finalized contractually.
Many in the industry believe that the Morales-Pacquiao match-up is being made by Top Rank to put Marco Antonio Barrera and Golden Boy Promotions in a bit of a bind. With Morales and Pacquiao facing each other, Barrera finds himself for the time being without a big-name opponent.
Perhaps, Barrera can face Marquez, who once again finds himself on the outside looking in.

• PACQUIAO-MORALES -- The hotly anticipated rematch between featherweights Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, tentatively scheduled for Feb. 26, is in jeopardy.
Pacquiao's promoter, Murad Muhammad, was in Las Vegas last week to meet with Top Rank officials, trying to salvage the bout.
If the fight isn't arranged, there's a possibility Pacquiao would fight Erik Morales on March 19. Top Rank president Todd duBoef said Morales will fight in March, but refused to reveal the opponents being considered.
Top Rank chairman Bob Arum refused Saturday to comment on the status of Pacquiao-Marquez or the potential of a Morales-Pacquiao fight. Arum said he expected to have the situation resolved by Wednesday.
kadyo 01-10-2005, 12:37 AM Another Arum ploy to confuse Murad and Beristain. Damn it, I'm also confused. Maybe another pre fight brouhaha to spice up Pac-JMM 2.

I know but I'd like Pac to grab those belts from JMM just to prove his critics wrong...(you know, that he just got lucky the 1st time) ...

theres a diff when ur fighten fit
and fighten ft for specific guys
he has to train specificly at this level
not jus
hey i can throw punches
so im ready
that just proves hes one dimensional and knows nothin more then attack
he needs to study and know what he is gonna do
a back up plan incase it fails
and a back up plan for that back up plan if need be
in the first jmm fight it showed that he cant just go in and expect to KO him
he dropped him 3 times in the opening round and wasnt able to finish him

well basically Manny will try to do the same on the second fight with more movements and punch combinations and try to go for JMM's head and body ...
this is what makes PAC-JMM 2 fight exciting PAC's style is tailor made for JMM counter punching style and as a PACFAN i wont blink so i could see that LEFT on the JMM's JAW for a KD/KO ...

My bet is that Pac-Morales is being put on the table by the negotiators to force JMM to accept the 750k payday.
But if he plays tough, its still ok to see Pac - Morales.
In any case Pac is the winner. He gets a chance to face either of the 2 :)

that will show the low quality of champions under those belts. thus ring magazine champ proves the best. JMM doesnt deserve to be on top 10 P4P rankings if he fails to sign the contract. he should be removed. let him fight with weak fighters and never fight with elite ones. so he justifies his image.

you coudnt have said it even better. who ever fails to to do his part for the rematch simply shows who was supposedly the loser in the first fight. i thought the only way to settle that draw was a rematch. but now, we can also say that it can also be settled by looking at who ever chickens out first.

FI, Pac's training agains 3k wasnt realy for 3k. those were all for JMM. that's why its called a tune up fight. so that they can test their new weapon in actual to somebody. why do you think MAB chose a southpaw like Ayala as a tune up fighter? its coz he was preparing a rematch with Pac.

PACQUIAO-MORALES PLANNED FOR MARCH 19!!!
Salven L. Lagumbay

January 10, 2005
In a major development in the light of Juan Manuel Marquez's continued insistence on a $1.5 Million purse, organizers are now reportedly willing to go straight into a more juicy and lucrative match-up involving two titans, as reigning Ring Magazine featherweight king Manny Pacquiao is now penciled in to face Mexican legend Erik Morales on March 19 in an HBO pay-per-view event.
**********'s Greg Leon, in his report, has indicated that after Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia broke the news of the collapse of the eagerly anticipated February 26 rematch between Pacquiao and Marquez, the Filipino ring icon is now planning to move up to 130 lbs to rumble with Morales, who until recently held the WBC junior lightweight crown.
"The usually talkative Murad Muhammad surprisingly had no comment when we spoke to him last night," Leon wrote. "Top Rank's Bob Arum and Todd DuBoef were unavailable for immediate comment when ********** called them on the cellular phones. Like Muhammad, Top Rank PR guy Lee Samuels had nothing to say," Leon added.
Maxboxing's Steve Kim, ciing industry sources, said "the match is being made by Top Rank to put Marco Antonio Barrera and Golden Boy Promotions in a bind. With Morales and Pacquiao facing each other, Barrera finds himself for the time being without a big-name opponent. Perhaps he can face Marquez, who sees himself on the outside looking in again."
Middle of last week, promoter Murad Muhammad had gone to Las Vegas to confer with Top Rank people regarding the Pacquiao-Marquez February 26 bout, but apparently, both camps were not able to resolve Marquez's purse demand.
"Bob [Arum] and I are trying to straighten out Marquez' situation. Marquez took the stand that he believes that Pacquiao should not be paid as much as him, or more," Muhammad told *********.
In the same report, Murad confirmed that a July bout with Erik Morales is indeed in the works, but said a switch in opponents from Marquez to Erik Morales was "not discussed in today's meeting." The meeting was supposed to resume last Friday. The American promoter, however, cautioned: "If there is a fight with Erik Morales that is offered to me, Pacquiao and I would happy to take it."
Nobody knew what transpired in the meetings that ensued Friday, but apparently, Pacquiao-Morales on March 19 topped the agenda.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao is set to officially start his rigid preparation today under Freddie Roach at the latter's Wild Card Gym on Vine Street in Hollywood. Pacquiao left the country last Saturday evening accompanied by Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez.

another posibility why JMM might be trying to threat the rematch is he wants to destract Pacman on his training so that Pacman will lose his appetite and concentration on his training. and then, at last minute here comes JMM signing the contract. like Roach had expected, this bout will be a mind game fight.

You could be right. Though I hope Murad gets Morales instead. A Morales match will be more lucrative for Pacman and more exciting for fans. Not to mention Morales should be a much easier target than JMM.

come on now guy

Mr. Ryan 01-10-2005, 03:57 PM This, not the Barrera fights, is the defining moments in these 2 fighters careers! This is one that can really go either way. Morales is the better boxer and more experienced, all though he is on the slide in my opinion. Pacquiao is the quicker, harder puncher, but is reckless, which spells doom against Morales. With Pacquiao-Marquez, I thought Pacquiao could afford to make some mistakes, with Morales he can't. Pacquiao needs to be in the shape of his life, he needs to make the version of himself that stopped Barrera look like a bloated cop. This is Morales' most dangerous fight of his career, as Pacquiao is the only fighter I can think of that Morales has faced that can really test Morales' chin. I'm going to with my guts and pick Pacquiao by SD. As long as Pacquiao starts fast, is in great shape, and fights his normal tenacious fight, he will win this fight. But remember, he has to fight the fight of his life. This is no Marquez, this is the real deal.

LOL dude, I have the fight in 2 dvds and saw it aprox 11 times. All Nedal did was protect himself while Pac unloaded on his ass. You're gonna honestly tell me that Nedal did better in that fight than Manny?!? Like I said, he got floored by that counter jab which even shocked me and Pac ran THAT whole round, but other than that, please tell me name me the other rounds where Nedal was the clear winner. I'd be surprised if you can name 3. By the way, I don't score elbows, tackles or hitting after the break.

Larios should pose no problem for Pac. He is too slow for Manny.
Floydmayweather 01-10-2005, 08:15 PM I think Morales is very dangerous for Pac. His chin is rock hard and who knows if Pac will get angry after he takes some good shots and gets careless. As for Marquez i still think Pac will have some new weapons in this fight and will eventually catch him, i would say ko in 8.

statements like this make me want to laugh. and its probably because, like most manny fans, people who make these comments didn't know what boxing was before manny came along. boxing history has shown time and time again that it doesn't matter who 2 fighters have beaten. the end result of thier match can only be known when it happens. the thing to remember here is that no two fighters are exactly the same. and statements like this prove that you are either blinded by you love of manny or you truely do not know boxing. now i'm not saying that manny can't beat erik, in fact i honestly feel that the odds are in mannys favor. but its not because mab beat erik in his last fight. personally i think erik will show better against manny than mab did but manny will prolly win the fight. i actually want manny to win this one. i used to like em but after the way he acted from contract signing til the end of the mab 3 fight, i really just don't like him anymore. i would actually like to see manny send him into permanent retirement.
now evo, please tell me that you really don't beleive that just because erik didn't beat mab the last time that you think that it means that he can not beat manny. i still see erik being a bigger threat than mab was in the first fight against manny.

now evo, please tell me that you really don't beleive that just because erik didn't beat mab the last time that you think that it means that he can not beat manny. i still see erik being a bigger threat than mab was in the first fight against manny.
Fo shaiza, Erik will always be a bigger threat than MAB. This would all depend on Manny's ability to impose himself and Morales' ability to control the distance. EM in my opinion undersestimated MAB like all of us and MAB made him pay. But I will always think he's better, given the same driven mentality.
lapulapu 01-11-2005, 12:21 PM The "BELTS" are already losing its luster. Forget those :D
I wanna see Manny reshape Erik's nose into something more familiar to us. Plus get the bigger purse in this fight. PM is bringing home a huge bacon from this fight.
But I want Pacman to settle down to a real BELT. I'm sure he's gonna be as proud of it as I am. Two guys to get it from, JMM & MAB.

It will be almost impossible to get it from JMM...he runs really fast, no way is Manny catching up with money excuses. :D

I think you're right. I have the same feeling since the runaround last year. Maybe its time for Pacman to just forget about JMM. Let him beg for the fight next time.
LuKahnLi 01-11-2005, 12:34 PM Through what rationale could Marquez POSSIBLY come to the conclusion that he is worth 1.5 million to Pacquaio's .9 million?

look man, i know your point. but i have my own reasons why i came up to that conclusion.
1st I never saw a difference in EM's style compared to his previous performance that would give him excuses to say why he lost to MAB 2nd time around.
2nd MAB faught EM with the style which he actually used against Manny and which the latter had dismantled.
3rd if those styles will be as they were and physical conditions are the same, logically it's not impossible that it'll be so as how you understood my previous post.
4th please note that i used the term "doubt" about EM's capability to win against the Pacman. i never said he will lose because MAB beat him and Pac beat MAB.
I have a great feeling that this fight will devastating and onesided.
PACMAN will send ERIK into the canvass, Erik should be able to protect his NOSEBRIDGE or else it could cause his EARLY retirement.
