Papa Trinidad to train Ruiz!
Papa Trinidad will surprisingly come out of retirement to train and manage former WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz. Papa Trinidad had "irrevocably" retired from the fight game earlier this after his son Tito Trinidad suffered a one-sided loss to Winky Wright, however according to the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia negotiations have been completed. The move is expected to motivate promoter Don King to pay more attention to Ruiz' career. Ironically, the senior Trinidad was a vocal critic when the "The Quietman" was named Puerto Rican Fighter of the Year in 2001, arguing the Ruiz, who lives in Las Vegas, is not a Puerto Rican resident. Ruiz parted ways with longtime manager Norman "Stoney" Stone after his close loss to Nicolay Valuev on December 17.

it means he will be a plodding, hugging, one dimensional fighter. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Papa Trinidad wants to know what it is like to work with a fighter that has heart and is not a quitter. Ruiz became the hevyweight champion of the world with mediocre talent. His son could have been one of the greatest welterweights ever but was a little bit*h!!

aps, after Tito became a superstar, what did he have to offer besides power?

If anything he's an overachiever.

He wasnt an overachiever. Overachiever dont quit NEVER. He looked for the easy way out of everything. He had the ability to box but not to adapt. He fell in love with his power and became one dimensional. After losing to Hopkins he didnt even try to adapt for a rematch where maybe he could have done something differently and won. Against Winky he kept walking into jabs and didnt try to change. He quit midway through that fight too.

Papa Trinidad-Ruiz Hoax!
A story reported in the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia today, in regard to Papa Trinidad coming out of retirement to train and manage former WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz, was a hoax. It was written as part of a Puerto Rican tradition which is called 'Día de los Santos Inocentes' (Day of the Inocent Saints), a version of the American tradition April Fool's Day, celebrated on December 28 of every year.

:D Papa Trinidad to train Ruiz? For what?

That's bull****! No matter who trains Ruiz and what kind of training he does, it won't change anything in him. His career is over.

A focused Zab Judah is a top 3 pound for pound fighter. This will be no walk in the park for PBF because its at 147. I thought Mayweather even looked small at 140

well, if the news is true.. it's not gonna help when Ruiz is down on the cards 10 rounds to nothing, getting jabbed to death by a southpaw, and Papa Ruiz tells him in the corner, 'just keep doing what you're doin'. lol
