any of you guys seen Les Darcy fight on Film?? He fights are rare I belive. I have 2 of his fights, vs Smith and Clabby.

Darcy is a GREAT fighter. I was pretty impress with him. 2 bad he never had the chance to prove himself as Middleweight champ though.

I guess you like loud mouthed draft dodgers who are too scared to serve their country, yet have no problem profiting from the Capitalistic system that that country stands ..

Yes, the thing we all admire most about Ali is his loud mouth and his so called "draft dodging", we couldn't care less about the fact that he is the greatest fighter of all time :o .

You sir, are a complete jackass.

My favourites are Marvin Hagler, Ali, Foreman, Sugar Ray Robinson and Joe Frazier.

Some of my favourites who I enjoy watching and/or reading about;

Daniel Mendoza, Tom Cribb, Peter Jackson, Tom Sharkey, George Dixon, Terry McGovern, Freddie Steele, Jimmy McLarnin, Tony Canzoneri, Jack Dempsey, Panama Joe Gans, Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Marvin Hagler, Marcel Cerdan, Rocky Marciano, Nicolino Locche, Joe Louis, Ike Williams, Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers, Harold Johnson, Charley Burley, Eddie Booker, Jeff Fenech, Barry McGuigan, Beau Jack, etc., etc...

Those are just some of the fighters who I have a soft spot for, but my #1 favourite fighter of all-time is probably Sam Langford.

I like Dempsey, i've seen a couple of his fights, but they are blurry and hard to see what's happening sometimes, so I can't say he's a favourite.

What a stupid ***** you are. Why would he be scared? scared of being placed in a completely NON-combat situation? Why would he want to fight an pointless war miles away in a place he hadn't heard of? The govt wouldn't give them equality but expected him to fight their war? What he did required more bravery then going to Vietnam... an African american with such a strong opinion in the late sixties in the U.S.A, he had balls.

What the **** is your problem you worthless piece of horse****? I guess you like ignorant little ****s who live their lives degrading people who accomplish 10,000 times what they could in their trivial lives, so that some sort of self satisfaction is possible? I gather this because you are one.

a) The war was wrong, even someone as right-wing as me admits it. People finally came around to this in the 70s, and Ali's public portrayal became positive, and he transferred from being the most hated man in the USA, to the most loved in the world. Only ignorant little sods like yourself can't see that.

b) He didn't "DODGE" anything! Did he run to Canada like the other dodgers? Did he hide himself in a cave? **** no! He stood their and faced the government, toe-to-toe, and told them he was ready, willing and able to go to jail before he went and killed innocent people who never "called him ******".

c) Do you understand the times? Civil rights movement? Blacks were still getting lynched, and non getting served in restaurants, especially in the South. Ali was raised in a segregated community, and had been hated by whites throughout his childhood. Then they come along, and TELL him to go and fight FOR THEM, when his people have no rights right there in America.

d) Islamic religion forbidded him fighting in the war.

Have we learned something today you despicable piece of ****?

boobetrap
01-09-2006, 08:21 AM
I have to agree you can never call Ali a draft dodger it is one of the things that makes him great i'm sure i've heared it is one of the toughest battles he has ever faced! About the Islamic Community do you think they used Ali a bit? Annother thing vietnam how come so many poor blacks where sent and nor rich white americans did we all forget the US president!
Oh and my favourites are:
Ali
Foreman plus those grilling machines kick ass
Frank Bruno LOL joking though he a nice guy!

My all-time favorite is Rocky Marciano. One of the toughest boxers that ever lived and considered to be one of the best, if not THE best conditioned boxers of all time. He wasn't the biggest, heaviest or quickest, didn't have the best technical style so he knew he had to outwork his opponents, both in the ring and in training for his fights. My other favorites include:

Joe Louis
Muhammad Ali
Sugar Ray Leonard
Sugar Ray Robinson
Thomas Hearns
Evander Holyfield
Miguel Cotto
Felix Trinidad
Oscar De La Hoya
Yuriorkis Gamboa
Floyd Mayweather
Sugar Shane Mosley
Marvin Hagler
Arturo Gatti
Roy Jones
Bernard Hopkins
Joe Calzaghe
David Tua
Nigel Benn
George Foreman
Joe Frazier
Erislandy Lara
Edwin Valero
Lary Holmes
Jack Dempsey
Jack Johnson
Lou Ambers
Tony Canzoneri
Willie Pep
Sandy Saddler
Vitali Klitschko
Wladimir Klitschko
Lennox Lewis
Sonny Liston
Ray Mancini
Mike McCallum
Andre Berto
Manny Pacquiao
Aaron Pryor
Alexis Arguello
Henry Armstrong
Marco Antonio Barrera
Julio Cesar Chavez
Mike Tyson
Andre Ward
Pernell Whittaker
Ronald "Winky" Wright
Paul Williams

So, as you can see, I mostly lean towards the big punchers that knock out their opponents in about 5 rounds or less (Foreman, Liston, Tyson, Hearns), some boxer/punchers that throw a lot of punches and dominate on the scorecards (Leonard, Williams, Hopkins) and the warriors that usually score late round knockouts (Chavez, Cotto, Gatti, etc.)

I just wanted to add I'm new here, as you can tell from my post count and really enjoying reading the posts on the boxing and MMA boards here.

Actually, if Ali had joined the military there is no way he would have been put into battle since he was a celebrity. This proves that he refused to join out of principle and not out of fear. And yes, we do like loud mouthed fighters, they entertain us. Also, you didn't mention anything in your post about him being the greatest heavyweight of all time.

In regards to Ali,I hated him while he was fighting,I hated him because of the way he insulted his opponents before the fight.I found his insults so much below the belt.Anyway, towards his last years of fighting until his retirement from the ring,I began to appreciate him.In fact,he is now one of my favorite fighters of all time.

EXACTLY, Ali had balls and brains - which are two things 100% lacking from all political discourse throughout mankind and history. He thought that particular war was wrong, so he stood up for what was right. He didn't dodge nothin, he was a man and accepted all consequences.

However, that's totally irrelevant, he was one of the ATG boxers, I don't care if he worshipped Satan if I'm judging him on his boxing ability.

.02

Anyway, Harry Greb is probably my favorite boxer of all time. Although there is only a small amount of footage of him, its really interesting the way he moved. Most wins of all time, and constantly fighting guys way bigger that him.

Other than Greb, the answer is Tyson. And yea, prolly the main reason for this is probably because I grew up watching Tyson, but nowadays since I actually started to train boxing I learned alot when I finally studied his style and technique. Where are the heavyweights that know how to actually move and throw combos?
