View Full Version : February 26th for Pac-JMM is off

From El Nuevo Dia:

"February 26th is not only the date of Miguel Cotto's next defense against DeMarcus Corley, but also it is possible that the fight will be celebrated in Puerto Rico.

Peter Rivera, Top Rank's representative in the island, confirmed that he's looking for a venue in the island for the boxing card, which will be televised by HBO. The card included originally the fight between IBF featherweight champion, Juan Manuel Marquez against Manny Pacquiao, which allegedly had to be postponed or cancelled when an economic deal could not be made between both camps. The card was scheduled to be celebrated in Las Vegas.

If Cotto-Corley is celebrated in Puerto Rico, it is possible that WBO minimumweight champion Ivan Calderon fights in the undercard."

Regarding Trinidad (also from El Nuevo Dia):

"When Don King meets with the Trinidads on Monday, one of the hot topics they will discuss is the possibility of fighting Travis Simms.

Simms, undefeated in 24 fights and WBA jr. middleweight champion, has declared he is willing to fight Trinidad for much less than the $4 million offered to Winky Wright. He is so serious about this that his lawyer contacted José Nicolás Medina, Trinidad's lawyer.

"We told him that he had to work with Don King. But I certainly think that would be a megafight, of course it would be", said Felix Trinidad Sr."

if this is true..
i think jmm is on the losing side on this one..
the feb26 date is reserve for PAC and he'll get the same purse provided he fights a fighter acceptable to HBO..

and where will jmm dig the 750k purse he's supposed to get in fighting PAC..
i bet he won't get it by fighting the likes of Salido..

nope...remember why manny didn't sign the contract on his birthday? coz he's afraid this thing may happen (jmm backing out and getting less than the offer)...so he insisted to change the clause to "any opponent acceptable to hbo" so he can still get the same purse no matter who hbo dangles with him.

right, PAC insisted on havin' this clause sa as not to affect his purse..

damn! Juan Manuel Marquez! he claims he is the champion but trying to threat the rematch out of money just to have a reason of not getting in to it instead of proving what he's realy made of. if he could beat Pacquiao clearly, then i think there's no question he's the best and could demand for a big purse. but now is just not the proper time. he still needs to prove himself that he could realy beat Manny. why does he have to say, "my two title belts are at steak here," if he knows that he can realy beat Pacman? this clearly shows his own doubt in his capability.

Wow. This is really frustrating. This was a terrible decision on Marque'z part. There will be dreadful backlash. Puss.

Honestly, though, this may be a good thing. For Pacquiao and the Ring magazine, anyway. Most people think he got robbed in the first fight, and he won't run the risk of losing to a better prepared Marquez. Also, it serves to further credit the Ring's championship policy. When the alphabet groups champ backs out of a fight with the Ring's champ, you know that someone has to be wrong.

I figured JMM would back out, he said after the first fight that he didn't won't a rematch.

That's one hilarious pic Chupacola :) I think this is all JMM trying to mess up Manny's preparations now. Maybe he's trying to make Manny train less or be more fustrated and not as focused. Who knows though I want to know who the heck will Manny be facing then. Hmmmm.

Wait 1 second, what about this that Marquez said.

Marquez expressed doubts though on Pacquiao’s readiness to challenge him anew, prompting the Mexican dual champion to dare the General Santos City-native ring punisher not to make any excuses that may derail their February 26 rematch in Las Vegas.

“A postponement isn’t possible. We have an obligation to television and to our fans to be in the ring and ready to fight. We must arrive there in top condition and any last minute protest about an injury, just would not be valid. I’m expecting this second fight will be a war, and I’m preparing accordingly,” Marquez told Boxingscene.com.

My god I have never seen a group of fans be so dramatic. How many articles have Pac fans posted about this fight being on, this fight being off, so and so not wanting to fight and on and on.

They screamed at the top of there lungs that Marquez was scared and didn't want anything to do with Pac, but Arum said all along the rematch was in Feburary and guess what?...The fight was scheduled for Feburary

No major web site or source has broken this news, im sorry but forgive me if I dont take a one line sentance in "El Nuevo Dia" as gospel. Dont you think its funny out of all the boxing sites(Boxingscene, Max, **********, *********..etc) and all the boxing writes the only place you have heard this is one sentance in a PR newspaper?

i just want to see Pac-JMM 2, no more no less, if the fight gets cancelled or delayed its JMM who is in the loosing end, the longer the fight takes place the longer time Pac can prepare himself and the longer the fight takes place the older JMM gets, I want to see JMM fight at his peak when he fights PAC, and that is now ...

PAC will fight on Feb 26 as per signed contract with HBO and he will fight with JMM that's what the fans want to see ...

After the fight with 3K, I thought IBF "made" Pacman it's #1 or #2 contender to make the fight (with Marquez) official?? I'm not sure of this but anyway...if Champions keep making "money" the problem issue, I don't think making yourself mandatory is a sure bet.

(A good example right now is Barrera who doesn't wanna fight his mandatory Monke Fana) This time it's not money issue but WHO IS THAT? issue.....LOL

i think you have a point there, FANA fought a WBC eliminator to fight for the WBC Belt, so if MAB will hold on to the belt he must give Fana a shot whoever he is ...

I think all this talk are just part of the mind games similar to the first fight and we will still enjoy and see PAC-JMM 2 on February 26 ...

thats right man. IBF made Pac #1 which makes him a qualified challenger for the ever running away WBA/IBF title holder Juan Manuel Marquez. and thats also right that being a mandatory challenger is not realy an asurance. i think this is the reason why IBF gave that vacant rank to Pacman coz they predicted JMM is gonna think of something to make reasons on how to stay away with Pacman. likewise with thier conract.

pacman is definitely the most popular boxer today. his popularity rose not only from his skills and fighting abilities but because he was embraced by his fellowmen and raised over their shoulders like a hero. manny's achievements are his countrymen's achievements... mess up with the pacman and you mess up with every Filipinos in the world!

If not for your boxers' cowardice, manny would have been given fights he deserve. Your boxers' continuing avoidance only make pacman fearsome. JMM, Barrera, Morales are great fighters with no balls

I thought IBF sanctioned the 3k battery fight for the #2 spot. If I'm not mistaken, Juarez is the mandatory #1 contender. He's supposed to fight the PAc-JMM 2 winner.

Yeah, it's also doomsday for JMM if he doesn't fight Pacman this February. It's the end for him. It's final curtains. It's goodbye. Kaput.

Nobody will get him for another big fight as nobody will watch him and take him seriously hereafter.

It's really a pity, but everything's his own doing. So he deserves what he gets (or what he doesn't get!).

what happened to JMM is obviously intentional by nature. JMM doesnt realy have plans of re-engaging with Pacman. otherwise, it'll be suicide. but trying his luck in case the purse be granted, he'll be happy to be beaten with a retirement fee. ;)
