use a raquetball and hold it with your chin while your hitting the bag or shadow boxing ,its a good way to get your chin trained to stay down

what should i do to improve my punches and blocking cuz everyone seems to be able to clobber my left and right temples :confused:Um the fact that you say that you are a beginner and already participating in contact drills or sparring, I don't know what you mean by beginner, but if you've only been about 6 months into it, then focus solely on punching mechanics this can be done by shadow boxing and lots of heavy bag work, and work on your rhythm by hitting the speed bag, footwork, and the double-end bag(probably the hardest to get comfortable with). But more importantly... Do you even have a coach? So once you get to a point where you don't have to think about how to throw a punch or you don't appear mechanical in putting together a combination of punches. Then you move on to learning about defense, which leads to learning how to counter. Just learning how throw a punch properly, sorta ties in with working on defense already... In that everytime you throw a punch, the arms have to go back to it's defensive position.

1. Hands up(must always be up before throwing a punch
and retract to it's original position)

2. Chin tucked

3. Stay on the balls of your feet(You can move out of
the way faster and move in on the target faster)

4. Stay low(gives more leverage to your punches, become
a smaller target)This means bending at the knees not
at the waist.

5. Do not push with your punches, only stiffen up your
arms when you sense that you are about to hit your
target. Slightly bend your wrists, so it "cushions"
the impact on your bones.

Last but not least...
