Dark Destroyer 09-19-2004, 07:51 AM I have no shame at all for backing Oscar. I knew he was fighting against the odds but i still put all my faith into him. He disappointed nobody last night, he fought like a true warrior and shocked everyone by coming forward controlling the pace of the fight in the first few rounds. I admire him alot, it was a sad night in alot of ways but i know we will see him in action again. Bernard has always had my respect, he is a true great and definatly the top of the pound for pound list.
m00ks 09-19-2004, 01:13 PM Before the knockout I only had hopkins by 2 points. It wasn't that far off. He was bullet fast in the beginning. But to keep that high pace for 12 rounds? No way, once he slowed down even just a bit, along came Hopkins and made it his fight, with his style, in his pace. I don't think he hurt hopkins with those combos, stinging jabs but that's about it.

Explosivo 09-19-2004, 04:16 PM Hey acquitted, DLH was winning that fight and that punch that Koed Oscar was bull****. Not even a clean shot. Those judges that had Bernard so far ahead should be fired. I had DLH ahead by 4 when the KO occured.

Can you please tell me how that punch was BS?
Yarmez 09-19-2004, 07:41 PM I Backed Dela Hoya, and I would Back Him Again In a Rematch, Why You Ask, Cause I'm A Dela Hoya Junkie, He is great for the Sport and he is a great athlete, a risk taker , a true warrior
ThaGreatest1 09-19-2004, 07:49 PM i think hopkins should fight tha winner of tito-mayorga then tha then robert allen or somethin then he should fight felix sturm again then he will be ready for hopkins again
i think dlh can beat hopkins in a rematch
ThaGreatest1 09-19-2004, 07:54 PM yo i think dlh is one of tha greatest fighters and he is my fav and always will be till tha moment i'm in tha ring he'll always be a hall of famer
and he was doin really good against hopkins he wasnt winning i'd have to say it was a draw at that point but hopkins got him with a good punch and that's all it takes to knock out someone
thats what tarver did to jones and we'll see who wins that rematc (jones)
but oscar was doin good he just needs to fight more middleweights first and get used to it first
and i'd do anythin for a rematch
i think he will win in a rematch
it's not like hopkins was rippin him up
oscar will beat him in a rematch
Winter 09-19-2004, 08:53 PM I wish Oscar De La Hoya would have won.
chito 09-20-2004, 07:04 AM i don't think there's a rematch, hopkins defeated dela hoya convincingly and oscar admit it! he should fight the winner of trinidad-mayorga instead! all is not lost for oscar, it's just that hopkins is too big for him! as the announcer commented during the fight, oscar looks smaller and smaller as the rounds progresses! i am impressed by oscar's performance, and he's right, he should be proud of what he had accomplished (i think surviving hopkins for 8 rounds and posted a threat during the early rounds is an accomplishment already).

it was a clean shot, a left hook to the right rib of oscar (in the newspaper they were saying two left hooks to the body but i only saw one i don't know) it was a delayed reaction on oscar, hopkins threw one more right to the face that connected and oscar fell! it was a short punch, oscar was cornered in the ropes! i am not a hopkins' believer, i thought oscar could pull it through, but seeing hopkins delivered this kind of punches, wow, this man is strong, way too strong for dela hoya! i think that kind of punch was the one used to knockdown trinidad, too-short but very effective and powerful punches!
chito 09-20-2004, 07:23 AM i think hopkins should fight tha winner of tito-mayorga then tha then robert allen or somethin then he should fight felix sturm again then he will be ready for hopkins again

i disagree dlh can never beat this hopkins guy, he should go down to welterweight and fight the winner of trinidad-mayorga!
Explosivo 09-20-2004, 04:21 PM Can you please tell me how that punch was BS?
It was a glancing blow that did not land flush. I didnt imagine Oscar going out on a punch like that.
DR. FREECLOUD 09-20-2004, 04:31 PM i disagree dlh can never beat this hopkins guy, he should go down to welterweight and fight the winner of trinidad-mayorga!
why do you guys keeps saying go down in weight to welter weight to fight the winner of mayorga-trinidad? that fight is a middle weight fight.
NiGe2011 09-20-2004, 05:51 PM This is true but Tito is capable of fighting lighter and this is the first time that Mayorga has ventured up to middleweight- so it is not that crazy an idea to picture either of these guys fighting at a lower weight class...
baliw_nga 09-21-2004, 09:21 PM Dela Hoya boxed better than Hopkins for most of the fight until that soft "liver shot" by Hopkins. Its not even comparable to the one delivered by Gatti against Dorin.
ghostbear 09-21-2004, 10:08 PM DLH was losing the fight then he got knocked out. Same thing would happen in a rematch. He tried to do something nobody has done before and came up short. He gave it his best though and I don't think anybody should think less of him for losing.

maybeyou should come to cleveland and make me close my acount ******
grayfist 09-21-2004, 10:27 PM Mayorga-Trinidad looks to me as a meeting between one who has had a long lay-off vs. one who came up through the weight ranks too quickly, one who is a disciplined and skilled craftsman vs. one who is the wildest character ever to emerge on and off the ring in years, a role-model vs. an unruly model. The only thing they seem to have in common is an oft-demonstrated desire to mix it up. So, LET'S GET IT ON! (With credits to Mills Lane :))And here's a nutty question: WHY AREN'T PEOPLE TALKING MUCH ABOUT JONES-johnson? (type cases used on the last two names, intended) :) :o
Eyeh8you 09-21-2004, 10:47 PM WHY AREN'T PEOPLE TALKING MUCH ABOUT JONES-johnson? :o
guess they figure it's a foregone conclusion ;)

Ahhhh, that figures... Thanx! :) ;)
bigdlb12 09-21-2004, 11:10 PM I will close my account when you leave Boxingscene for good, DLH vs hopkins did not live up to the hype but I was one of the few who had the fight 76-76 going into the 9th, too bad for the golden boy, I have no problem supporting him
Peder 01-28-2006, 03:08 AM I think Oscar proved himself to me allready. If he at age 50 wants to beat up an elefant with a baseballbat, i would still support him - canīt help it - :p
