I was watching The Monkees recently, and it was a show that used to amuse me when I was a kid. They were a bunch of wild anarchists that had something to say, and all four of them were really funny... well, except maybe the moody one in the wooly hat.

Yet the other day I happened to see a repeat (or rerun) of it many years after I'd watched it. And you know what? Not only were they NOT anarchists, but just some dumb production line sitcom "stars", but they had absolutely **** all to say.

And not only was the show not even a fraction as funny as I'd recalled (the film's a cracker though) but they were serious irritating and garish.

Davy Jones - the gobby Manc midget.

Peter Tork - "I'm the dopey one." Yeah, whatever. Shut da **** up!

Mickey Dolenz - yeah, go away now.

The only one who was cool after all these years was Michael Nesmith. The guy rocked. He gets my vote.

Ha Ha!!! That's too funny. I will proudly admit that I am a monkee fan. I like the music but like you, the show lost appeal. Growing up for one plus I was born in '68 so times were not that far behind like it would seem to be now. As far as singing goes, I say Mickey Dolnez which is funny. The group was formed by combining two real musicians with two actors to make the show...but...BAM! A popular band formed. Micky and Peter were the actors and Michael and Davy the musicians.

Still, nobody tops Bon Jovi.

Not to contradict you brother, but wasn't it Peter the musician and Davy the actor?

Yeah, I still really enjoy the film, I think it's underrated, but the TV show (I was born in 72 but it used to get repeated all the time when I was young) has aged badly.

Davy was a British actor.
Mickey had been a child actor.
Peter was a school teacher who eventually learned a little bass.
Michael could play some and did a little record producing. He also gave a young Hulk Hogan some exposure in a very early music video of a solo single he did.

My favorite:
Cheetah

hahaha, I used to be in love with Davey & Peter (different weeks of course). Davey, because he was romantic & Peter because he was funny..
