The only thing is, if your not used to it it'll put too much strain on your knees. Remember when you first started running intensly? Your legs (mainly knees) must adjust, and running downhill with ankle weights on your first run will not be good. I suggest running on treadmill with ankleweights first, than step it up and run outdoors after you've adjusted.

take the energy you would use running with weights and just pick up the pace a little. It will be much better for you.

i agree ;) if you are gonna go out running with them it would probs be best to walk downhill with them on or even take them off half way

Uhh... ...while ankle weights may affect your knees in the decompression/extension phase of your stride (by causing your lower limb to have more inertia), they don't have any effect on your knees in compression (which is where the majority of knee damage comes from - the constant pounding as the knees absorb your full upper body weight with each stride).

The point I was making is, it will cause more pain to your knee with them on to start. Didn't really say how but just said it would. Also it will cause your legs to tire faster, which isn't really what you want, depending on how you run. Like was said just run harder and longer is more productive for you if you running for endurance.

yerr, but why do i see ppl wearing 0.5kg / 1kg ankle weights while they are jogging.

what is the true purpose of ankle weights? and what type of users actually use then?
