... just how competitive could James Toney be? I like the guy, seems good.
I'm guessing he could handily clean up Byrd, right?

View Full Version : As someone who's only seen his fight with Holyfield... !! Anorak 01-06-2005, 09:44 AM ... just how competitive could James Toney be? I like the guy, seems good. I'm guessing he could handily clean up Byrd, right? SalvaDominicano 01-06-2005, 10:35 AM hmm... byrd might be able to box him cuz toney does bad against people who outwork him. but then again, toney can surprise us by takin it to byrd. guru 01-06-2005, 10:50 AM toney will be very competitive at heavy cause of his skills, but (like byrd) he'll struggle to beat the top guys cause of his size... On the contrary, Toney is the more experienced and skillful boxer. I think Toney will make Byrd be the aggressor, throw Byrd out of his gameplan, and Toney will dominate the action. I think Toney will make Byrd be the aggressor, throw Byrd out of his gameplan, and Toney will dominate the action. totally agree!! his easiest h/w title fight would be against byrd another former middlewieght. toney's skills are very good as he showed against jirov and holyfield. tri4ben2 01-07-2005, 08:55 AM Holyfield actually made Toney look better than he is. His fight with Jirov is an indicatoir of his style, but he will not be able to do that against heavyweights. My guess is that Toney wouldn't mind stinking up the joint agaisnt a bigger man the same way Byrd used to do. Dark Destroyer 01-07-2005, 10:06 AM On the contrary, Toney is the more experienced and skillful boxer. I think Toney will make Byrd be the aggressor, throw Byrd out of his gameplan, and Toney will dominate the action. Good analysis. James Toney is a awesome boxer, i'm shocked you missed the Jirov fight Anorak. aztec13 01-07-2005, 11:49 AM Toney has a pretty good defense he can make you miss and make you pay for it. But as far as power at the heavyweight level can't really say cause holyfield is way out of his primes and against booker, booker went down but Toney couldn't put him away(got injured). Against Byrd I see Byrd winning by UD just for the fact Toney hasn't really been test against a top 10 heavyweight maybe we'll see in his next fight. Sir_Jose 01-07-2005, 03:19 PM I'd make him a favorite over both Byrd and Ruiz, but Vitali is just way to big for him Pno 01-08-2005, 06:10 PM Toney vs Byrd? I'd say Don King wins.. !! Anorak 01-08-2005, 06:26 PM Good analysis. James Toney is a awesome boxer, i'm shocked you missed the Jirov fight Anorak.I don't think it was on in England, Dark - unless you're from here too and you know something I don't... bpapa420 01-08-2005, 06:32 PM Byrd may give toney alot of problems because he will hit and run all night. Toney is most effective when people come straight at him reebox8225 01-08-2005, 06:50 PM I think Byrd beats toney pretty easy, Toney is on the downside. Truth 01-08-2005, 07:05 PM Toney as far as talent goes is the best heavyweight out there and I think we will all see that when he comes back. Pno 01-08-2005, 07:11 PM Too bad talent can only take you so far in Don King's world... He is to HW boxing what stereroids is to World Class weightlifting... "you're good, but to compete at a world level, you'll have to take the roids.." paulmmv 01-08-2005, 08:42 PM james toney is good but even though he thinks he can he could never beat vitali Toller 01-08-2005, 08:47 PM Klitschko against Toney would be like man against boy. No way toney could overcome the size difference. gunton 01-08-2005, 11:22 PM Toss a coin and you'll get the winner of the match, either way they are both average at best and along with everyone except vitali...(no offence to guys btw) they will be fighting for the scraps and so called "titles". Its a shame...what i wouldn't give for lewis, bruno, vitali, tyson and holyfield all i their prime to be duking it out. Sidestep_1 01-09-2005, 05:56 PM Toney is one my favourite fighters, but lets be honest: he just takes advantage of the poor quality of fighters in the division. He has a chance against everybody, but I would also pick Vitaly. |
