SCOTT HARRISON last night moved significantly closer to his dream of a world title unification fight against the WBC featherweight title holder Marco Antonio Barrera.

Mexican hitman Barrera has come out for the first time and confirmed a meeting with the Scot in Las Vegas in March or April would be appealing.

From America, the champion said: 'Television wants big fights and meeting Harrison would be a major contest .

'Harrison is a clever man and showed me respect by going out of his way to watch my fight with Erik Morales in December.'

Harrison is due to defend his WBO title against Victor Polo of Colombia at the Braehead Arena on January 28.

His father and trainer, Peter Harrison, has confirmed March or April would be suitable if negotiations can be concluded between both parties. He said: 'Scott is ready for Barrera and the reaction we received from the public when we were ringside in America for his fight with Morales told us they knew who Scott was and they wanted to see this contest go ahead.

'Scott has been after a career-defining fight and the American fans want to see a boxer who will come forward against Barrera.

'But at the same time we are not dismissing Polo as an irrelevance. His record shows he likes an early finish to his fights and we have to be wary.

'Scott has been a world champion for two years now and he is ready for his shot at unifying the titles.

'The Mexicans regard the featherweight title as their own and this would be a great opportunity to prove that the vision belongs to Scotland as well.'
