On December 17 2005, in Berlin Germany, John Ruiz will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight championship against Nicolay Valuev of Russia. Given Valuev’s complete lack of experience against top tier fighters, this bout appears to be an easy outing for Ruiz, but this might not be the reality on fight night. I cannot imagine that his one will be pretty but it does have sort of a trainwreck/carnival act feel to it that makes you wish you could watch it for free in a way

Ruiz should NEVER take ANYBODY lightly.
Jones made him look like a chump and Tua made him look like a coma victim.

Ruiz has had an interesting career.

He has been outclassed by virtually every fighter but stays in the heavyweight hunt because of shoddy disqualifications and such.

if valuev couldnt beat larry donald he wont beat john ruiz.

im glad this article acknowledges ruiz as the clear favorite in this fight, if you would listen to some of the morons on this forum youd think nicolai valuev was the undisputed champ

for as much bull**** as everyone talks about john ruiz, id pay good money to see this fight, i know it'd be better value than 50 bucks for hop/taylor 2

I agree that this fight could be interesting and maybe even worth paying for but Ruiz should not be the favorite.

You can make the argument that ruiz has not beaten a single fighter since becoming a world champ.

He is not going to get a gift decision over there in Germany. Ruiz is going to lose to the shortest heavyweight fighter in 100 years and the tallest.

Hold and hit will not work against Valuev, and Ruiz DOES NOT have the ability to turn into a slick boxer all of a sudden.

Ruiz doesn not have that much power, if he throws hard enough to attempt to KO Valuev he will quickly tire. So he will back off and look exactly like Larry Donald did, except that he can't play that style as good as Donald.

This fight will look alot like Ruiz vs Golota, except no phony deicision for Ruiz this time.

ruiz main tactic is jabbing and grabbing how is he supposed to hug a 7foot 325lbs beast?

I watched the Donald/Valuev fight a few weeks after it took place and going off what everyone was saying about Donald being ripped off i expected to see a bad call but although Donald did outbox him in small flashes he was out worked in most of the rounds and i had Valuev winning by at least 3 rounds.
As for Ruiz,i think he has too much big fight experience for Valuev and will find a way to win

I'll watch this fight if I'm having trouble sleeping on that night, and my Valium isn't strong enough.

That "way to win" is called Don King. I don't know what King's been smokin', or who he's been smolkin' it with, but you can bet your ass that DKP ain't givin' up no hvywt belt, lessin' he's gettin' somethin' pretty substancial in return. Like a hvywt that's white, 'specially since nobody's buyin' that Golata bull**** anymore, and he can't control Wlad. Go watch "The Great White Hype" again, if you think I'm crazy.

In Germany the judges will be biased TOWARDS Ruiz? I figured they'd favor Valuev. Are you sayin' the Germans hate Russians? Makes sense, they seem to like Americans well enough, some of my best friends are from Germany. I just hate Ruiz and DKP so much, I see conspiracies behind every Bush! LOL! Hell, Maybe I'm Russian, that's what she said, anyway, but that was a long time ago, and a whole 'nother story.

I'll bet DK is getting options on Valuev as a part of the contract. I'm also 95% sure that if Valuev KOs Ruiz, DK will sign him up the next day.

I think it should be mentioned that Ruiz retired after the Toney fight. He unretired when his title was returned to him. This could be a factor in the fight, although King's heavyweight tournment coming up would certainly mean more money down the road for Ruiz.
Then the factor of the German judges. if they robbed Donald, they'll rob Ruiz. i predict a close fight that could be scored either way then the judges scorecards wil put out something like 116 - 112 verdict in favour of the lumbering bum from Germany!

Valuev is from Russia, not Germany. There's a helluva difference, even somebody from the UK should realize that! LOL!!!

When it came to the Klitscko's it didn't seem to matter. Germans promote him, he's as good as German!
