I've noticed an odd shooting pain that goes from my left shoulder down my arm, only when throwing straights and hooks with my right arm. I've never heard of this, throwing with one arm, and feeling a tingle/shooting pain in the other shoulder. The main spot is on my back at the left shoulder. Anyone ever run into this? If so what do i do?

I forget what they call it, something like a trapped nerve? I remember one day I twisted my neck, I had the most agonising pain go from the top of my head down my spine, I had no freakin idea what caused it. It almost felt like a huge electric shock.

Jay I think you're right. Tingling or shooting pain felt in the extremities is usually due to some nerve impingement/irritation. It usually comes come a structure closer to your spine so this could be arising from the nerves coming from your spinal cord in your spine, or it could be the muscles in your shoulder impinging the nerve when you throw a punch i.e. contract your muscles. The other thing is you could be overstretching the nerve running down your arm i.e. jabbing can hyperextend the elbow. Try some close-body work i.e. hooks, uppercuts, and see if you get the same problems.

Try some neck and shoulder stretching prior to punching first. That might reduce some of the pressure on the nerve. Get ur trainer to check out your technique. Make sure u aint hyperxtending the elboe in the jabs.

thanks for the replies. A nerve would make sense now that i think about it. closer body stuff doesnt hurt it. its only really when i reach. maybe i should take some time off?
