View Full Version : Morales to fight March 19th! WBA Possible
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 01-04-2005, 01:45 PM News by ESTO
Erik Morales has returned from his vacation in Argentina. Yesterday in a press conference in Tijuana he anounced that he will fight on the 19th of March in a big fight scheduled for 12 rounds promoted by Top Rank.
Erik said the fight could even be for a world title belt. He will talk to Top Rank about that.
About his fight with Barrera the former World champ said, "I believe that was just a bad night that will not happen again."
Morales also said certain boxing experts have reached him to tell him that he has always been loyal to the WBC but the WBC has not responded in kind. He said they made him see that certain judges and referee's chosen by the WBC "have helped me find my self in the worst nights of my career. Those people have told me I should feel betrayed by the WBC."
Erik said he holds no resentment against Sulaiman and that he doesnt believe what the "experts" told him.
However he did say that he felt maybe it was time to take a different route, and now that he is not a world champ he could fight for the championship of another major belt.
When asked which belt would he like to fight for erik responded, "WBA" (note: 3kBattery is wba champ at 130lbs).
Mr. Ryan 01-04-2005, 01:49 PM The one thing I feel that seperates Barrera from Morales is Morales' enfatuation with alphabelts. Morales always felt it was important to collect meaningless straps against the likes of Jesus Chavez and Guty Espadas while Barrera beat top fighters like Kennedy McKinney and Prince Naseem Hamed for his reputation. This is why Barrera will be seen as the better fighter, instead of Morales.

I think Morales is and will always be a better fighter.
Is the WBA champ Yodsadan?
mauricio95 01-04-2005, 01:54 PM erik is better than barrera he just had an off night that's all
Mr. Ryan 01-04-2005, 01:55 PM I think Morales is and will always be a better fighter.

If he was the better fighter, why couldn't he beat Barrera? I think it's funny that the 3 worst days Morales had were against Barerra. IMO, Barrera won all 3 fights.
fist-of-fury 01-04-2005, 01:56 PM Looks like "I had a bad night" is becoming the most famous and most convenient excuse of the times!

Cuz after the second fight, the third looked easy. Heck who DIDN'T underestimated Marco in that last fight? The second was only a bad night cuz he lost when he should have won.

LOL apparently yea

The second fight, you mean the one in which Barrera took 5 of the last 6 rounds? Morales doesn't shoot short punches well, Barrera's in-your-face style was simply too much for Morales. Barrera proved he simply was too good for Morales.

Took 5 of the last six rounds is arguable while he ran for the first six. Morales controlled the distance and outpointed Marco. Or at least, that should have been the story.

Outpointed? If Morales is content with taking a close decision, I overestimated his heart.
Kimmy 01-04-2005, 02:09 PM I believe Morales is more gifted in talent than Barrera but marco is the fighter as he has more heart. So much more desire and will power that makes up for it. It is evident that in the three fight with Barrera Morales at times would lower his head in the corner and when they exchanged blows Barrera usually came off on top. Morales had more power but Barrera had so much more want.
m00ks 01-04-2005, 02:11 PM Outpointed? If Morales is content with taking a close decision, I overestimated his heart.
He was the moreactive of the two. I dont think he was contentted witha decision but in my eyes, he DID outpoint him. What fuels Morales isn't his heart, it's his pride.

Kimmy sad what I really thought.

How could Barrera have ran the first six rounds in the second fight when he was too busy making Morales miss and hitting him in return. I think people penalized Barrera for not coming out swinging in the second fight. He boxed well in the first six rounds and went toe to toe in the last six.
just my opinion but i reckon that morales is the better fighter but for some reason barerra seems to have his number.
barerra always performs better against morales than he does anybody else!
morales is still one of the best fighters out there and imo will be considered the bigger legend because of his all action style!

Yah Morales missed, but he also connected. You guys talk like he took Morales to school or something in the rounds he boxed. He wasn't active period. It's hard to give him rounds like that.
m00ks 01-04-2005, 03:17 PM Reason why Barerra does great againts Morales, is that he haas great desire and heart. In thier fights, Morales looks like teh cleaner moretechnically sound while Barrera just gets in your face which works for him so I wont knack that.

Morales missed more than he connected in those first six rounds. I didn't say Barrera took him to school but he did outbox Morales.
IMO
barrera won the first
morales the second
but the third shoulve been a draw
there is only 2 rounds in my mind that could be questioned
the first and the ninth
most ppl say barrera won the first, but i really think morales won the ninth, and barrera punched morales in the back of the head twice and i think he should've been deducted a point, barrera is always like that.
the judge who had it 115-114 is an idiot. it should be 114-114
in a championship fight, you shoudln't give a one point win, or any round even. especially the 11th, i felt morales clearly won that round
abdiel2k3 01-04-2005, 03:55 PM great news!!
i just hope he comes back with the same desire to win
in the barrera fight
it didnt seem all there
it only really showed itself towards the end

How can you say that when he beat the big names straps or no straps. Among them,
Chavez
Hernandez
McCullough
Kelley
Injin Chi - Probably his biggest fame in the U.S. is against Morales
Ayala
Jr. Jones
Zaragoza

yeah it is Yodsadan
m00ks 01-04-2005, 05:17 PM yeah it is Yodsadan
This would be a crazy match up. THIS I want to see. Although he'd prolly move up after this and he would leave a Pac fight beind.

In the first 6 rounds, Morales had a higher land percentage in 5/6 rounds. He also landed more in 5/6 roudns as well.

As Gary Coleman would say, "Watchu talkn bout mic573??"
jack_the_rippuh 01-04-2005, 05:40 PM Morales is finished..
Barrera took his testicles in that third fight..
Morales has no more testicular juice..He's going to get KO'd in the next fight and probably call it quits..
It's just sad that he doesn't it see it yet.

That is one of the main reasons I don't use compubox in any of my debates. If you watch the fight most of Morales punches do not land. Even Jim Lampley was calling punches that missed as punches that landed. Plus on top of that Barrera's punches were the harder shots. Just because Morales is coming forward doesn't mean he is controlling the action and doesn't mean his punches are landing either. Barrera picked off and slip most of Morales punches while landing his own. Morales had his moments but Barrera was far more effective in my eyes.
LuKahnLi 01-04-2005, 06:02 PM I would love to see 3k VS Morales if that gets made.

I guess we saw the fight completely different. In any case, I trust compubox more than Lampley. Sometimes he calls something out and I'm like wtf?!? In any case, I'll agree to disagree and we'll end it at that. :)
tracylee 01-04-2005, 06:49 PM I think Morales is and will always be a better fighter.

Me too, and I'm very glad to hear he's getting back in the ring soon...I look forward to that very much!
LuKahnLi 01-04-2005, 06:53 PM Yodsanan 3k Battery is the WBA champ. He is the guy who beat the **** out of Stevie Forbes recently.

Damn I didnt know Morales was fighting Tyson!
mr. bojangles 01-04-2005, 08:38 PM So Yodsanan (The Real 3K Battery) Nanthachai finally gets noticed by Erik Morales...the long chase is over.:)
Just for the record, the Thai Tyson has been turned down by Popo, La Hiena, The Ghost and The Galaxy Warrior...but he finally gets to fight a much bigger name in El Terrible.
Chups 01-04-2005, 08:49 PM Barrera > Morales
jack_the_rippuh 01-04-2005, 08:57 PM Hey it happened to Roy Jones Jr. It can happen to anyone..
ispayder 01-04-2005, 09:05 PM Nice exchange of ideas and opinions here but the records say Barrera is the better fighter between the two. However, I would be one of the many boxing fans that will look forward to Erik's return.

morales needs to cleanup the 126 & 130 divisions first before he moves up...no glory in moving up unless you can truly say "i've beaten the best in that division, now it's time for me to find the best opponent elsewhere."

well, most boxers i know always say this when they lose. boxers should have this very high ego -- it is very understandable because accepting defeat is just saying that they are weak! of course, morales won't concede and say he lost to this fighter especially if it's barrera!

he's on his way to cleaning up this division but something came and he lost to Barrera and he's back to draw 1 again. so, what's probably he'll do next?

he hasn't cleaned the featherweight yet, there's still pac & jmm. yodsanan is also a thorn in his throat at junior lightweight. now that mab beat him, he probably needs to stay at 130 for a while beat yodsanan and exact revenge on mab. he can also wait for manny to move up to 130 but i highly doubt if will move down to 126 just to face both pac and jmm. i don't think it's good for his career, but that's the way to chase some boxing glories, imho.

Floydmayweather 01-05-2005, 12:21 AM I think Barrea and Morales are pretty close but Barrera beats Morales because of his fighting style.
Tha Greatest 01-05-2005, 12:27 AM BARRERA IS BETTER THEN MORALES
it was "once and for all"
he's just makin excuses

bro, have you seen the fight of sanchez and navarro? they fought in the 130 lb. division. navarro knocked out sanchez in the 8th round. what do you think of him?
enegue 01-05-2005, 06:18 AM No matter what we all say here, the fact remains that Barrera has officially bested Morales, 2 bouts to 1.
cmason 01-05-2005, 07:25 AM morales will win the WBA belt, but it means nothing. people will remember his loss to barrera in years to come, not winning the WBA's belt. as a comeback fight, however, he needs to get his confidance back.

yodsana is one tuff mofo...morales has been ducking him for quite sometime now...let's see if your theory holds.

sorry bro, i haven't seen that fight.
jack_the_rippuh 01-05-2005, 11:02 AM The only thing what can completely erase the loss to Barrera is if Morales moves up to 140 and KOs the likes of Floyd, Cotto, Gatti, and Tszyu all in one year..

honestly, i don't see morales beating those guys at 140.
LuKahnLi 01-05-2005, 11:52 AM One of the reasons Barrera was able to beat Morales, is that Morales is NOT a physically strong Jr. Lightweight. Sharp, Hard punching, skilled yes. But NOT physically strong.
Chavez and Hernandez were clearly the stronger men when they fought Morales.
3k is proven at 130 lbs. I think he has a real shot at Morales. Especially if Morales is smarting from his loss.
Remember how off Morales looked against In Jin Chi.

any news about Erick staying at 130 is good news to me, more time for Pac to catch up with him...
EM against MAB is 2-1 anybody saying that EM is better, at this point in time are totally wrong, MAB has proved after 36 rounds with EM who is the better fighter at this point in time...
but time for MAB is clicking fast and the 4th may say another story...

THAT nad he was 12 pounds slower than Barrera. I love Barrera and will always be a fan, I hate Morales but I still think he's better. I'm a fan of his skillz but not of his character. If you putthem both in the same training regimen, Morales takes it.

he had a bad night cuz barrera was beatin his ass
