View Full Version : Love for Danny Williams
!! Anorak 01-03-2005, 07:04 PM I said I wasn't going to post about the guy any more, but I feel bad for all the abuse he takes, usually from people who have never seen more than a couple of his fights, and just read his record.
Yeah, he has serious psychological demons in there (he just stood still against Samil Sam, and said he was sick afterwards - though he was odds-on favourite to beat him, it was supposed to be a formality to him moving up to European level).
I actually don't think Danny has given a decent performance in America yet. Sure, he beat Tyson but the guy was shot. It was a GOOD performance, but it didn't show Danny could mix it in that division... that should have been decided by having Danny move up gradually and fight some of the contenders. (Please bear in mind that Kali Meehan was beaten by Danny in less than a minute).
Believe it or not, I reckon Danny showed more against Vitali than he did against Tyson. True, his belief in himself was stripped from the first minute, and his equilibrium was shot after taking Vit's punches (but then so was Lennox's). He didn't fight back enough and was hurt. BUT he did prove he had heart and a chin.
I still think Danny proved most at domestic level where he dominated for several years. He DIDN'T, despite what his record may say, lose the third match to Matt Skelton, but annoyed the ref (who was the only judge in the match, such are the strangeness of UK rules) by clowning. Even Skelton knew he hadn't won.
His battle with Mark Potter is amazing, and, as mentioned, Meehan wasn't even in the fight.
In the present climate Danny could potentially take three of the belts, though I doubt he could ever live with Vitali. Is that so bad? I'd say he deserves his place in the CURRENT heavyweight top ten - though he hasn't SHOWN this to the US public yet - and would give him 7/10 on a good night.
!! Anorak 01-03-2005, 07:06 PM Matt Skelton = Michael Sprott, apologies.
Mr. Ryan 01-03-2005, 07:11 PM Danny Williams is the worst european heavyweight since Herbie Hide.
!! Anorak 01-03-2005, 07:15 PM What makes you say that, Asian?
I like Herbie's character - the guy makes Tyson look sane, outside the ring - and I think he's skilful. But unfortunately his chin is so brittle even Wladimir takes the piss out of it.

Herbie Hide needs help, as does Danny Williams. I saw the Samil Sam fight, the guy fought like someone who has a drug problem.

Well yes, sam is both ugly and fat BUT he got good power.Ive seen him a couple of times.

Lets put him upp against ruiz ore brewster, Danny and brewster both have big hearts solid chins and okay power, but them upp against each other and let us see.

I hate the heavyweights...
BrooklynBomber 01-03-2005, 09:52 PM Poor, poor Danny Williams. The guy is gonna be flamed until he will beat somebody of a not. So stop wasting your breath. Just look how the guys trash Wladdy and Vitaly when he quit against Byrd. Even after he will beat somebody he will still be trashed, the performance he gave was quiete embarassing to watch even I thought he will put up a better fight. To bad most of the posters dont understand just how hard it is to fight in the ring especially against the HW champion. It seems that people just dont appreciate the fighters nor they understand how does it feel to take a punch from HW.
Oh well just thinking out loud. :)
Nautilus 01-03-2005, 09:53 PM I like Danny Williams. He has heart.
!! Anorak 01-05-2005, 03:40 PM Nice one Nautilus... Brooklyn, you're right. I did cringe myself at his non-performance against Vit, but he showed heart if nothing else.
But Danny seems to NEED a win next, if he gets the chance. I wouldn't like to see him against Ruiz, because while he has more talent, we all know how Ruiz can close people down with his bear hugs. I'd like to see him against someone he can BEAT but who is a contender.
It'd be nice to see him do Kali in a minute again. Brewster... though has he earnt a second title shot?
BrooklynBomber 01-05-2005, 03:45 PM You see I would like to see more of Danny than lets say Ruiz or McCline. People that are trashing Williams (after fight I mean) either obtuse or just haters. I think that williams has just enough to beat Ruiz granted he moves to America and gets a normal corner.
!! Anorak 01-05-2005, 03:49 PM His corner were totally ****ed, weren't they? Well, the shouty guy was. Danny needs a quiet talker like the other guy (I'm bad with names tonight) but he couldn't hear him. I could see something go out of Danny psychologically during the first round though. That's his way - his heart doesn't go but his head does.
He is pretty good when he gets going... in most domestic match-ups he was peerless at that level. I'm uploading the key Sprott III round right now actually.
onikami 01-05-2005, 03:49 PM Danny could have been a contender. If only he did not waste his time fighting crap boxers in the UK. He should have moved the to the US years ago. But I still think he has the ability to win at least one of the belts.
tri4ben2 01-05-2005, 04:21 PM For what it is worth, I would watch DW fight again. I think that VK has the ability to hammer people from the outside and take away their gameplan.
Throw DW a bone and let him fight someone that sucks (have him look in the mirror :)
Then put him in agianst a marginal top 10 like McCline, Barrett, or TOS and see if he performs.
Mr. Ryan 01-05-2005, 06:26 PM I think Danny Williams simply doesn't have any business fighting at the elite level of the heavyweights. The only fighters he's beaten were a badly faded Mike Tyson, and a guy named Kali Meehan who really sucks. I think Kirk Johnson takes him apart.
!! Anorak 01-05-2005, 06:37 PM Are you serious, Asian? I've only seen Kirk once, and that was getting blasted out by Vitali in two. Danny's was just as one-sided, agreed, but he was still up at the eighth.
Kali - took a belt holder the distance and many argued he won. Also lasted four rounds with Rahman. Taken out in 1m< by Danny.
Tyson... hey, it's still Tyson, right? To an extent.

Kind of like how sex with a fat ugly ***** is still sex, right? Meehan, Williams, Johnson, and Brewster all suck. They make Trevor Berbick look like Joe Louis.

You are to harsh on Danny boy, sensation. atleast he fights and does not perform homosexual acts of love with his opponents like Ruiz. And hey if some guy like Beck is rated #4 by WBC why not have Williams fight with the big boys. I would give him another shot. Golota for example has gotten three in a raw.
WillieW 01-05-2005, 09:06 PM Didn't Williams say that that the Vitali fight was going to be his last. Something about fighting conflicting with his faith? Maybe I'm wrong.
As far as what I think about Danny...its this...He has heart and I respect that, but he just dosen't have the arsenal to fight at the top. But he is a guy who can deliver some greats fights if he is matched well.
!! Anorak 01-06-2005, 08:28 AM I've put a Danny round up from last year - see sticky thread
bpapa420 01-06-2005, 01:44 PM Most english fighter like danny williams are bums. Plain and simple. The only exception is lewis and he is really canadian.

He beat Tyson, big deal. So did Buster Douglas. Tyson is nowhere near the fighter he used to be. He has really run out of gas as a fighter. If you get out of the first 3 rounds with him, I don't care if you're Lennox Lewis or Kali Meehan, you got a hell of a shot against Tyson.
danny williams is a decent fighter from what i've seen of him over the last few years!
the mark potter fight was the making of him, dislocated shoulder fighting through the pain barrier with one arm and knocking the guy clean out.
straight after that fight he blows out the undefeated kali meehan in one minute, the man starts looking like a class fighter with a future then bammm!!
he fights sinan samil sam a decent but limited fighter gets stopped and the problems start.
the excuses came pouring out after the fight of how he had shingles and was'nt feeling good mentally.
but i ask anybody who has seen all since of danny's fights since julius francis or potter one question;was he ever the same after sam?
in most of his fights since then he always looked distracted like against keith long and the second fight with sprott when he was so frustrated that he kept punching sprott in the crown jewels!
when the tyson fight was made i had big hopes for danny not because he was a world class fighter who just had bad luck but because i knew he would'nt get blown out in a round or two because of his massive heart.
i bet big on danny for that fight and was the joke of the workplace for saying he would beat tyson, and as we know danny took out a near shot tyson to shock the world!!
but when he fought vitali everybody who wanted danny to beat tyson forgot about the long fight and the other fights in between and thought he was the next lennox lewis.
i'll admit that i had hopes for him against vitali because of the way vitali ran from sander's power but the fact still remains danny can be very ponderous and at times lazy in the ring and it showed with his non start.
on the plus side he has heart we all know that now even the people who were calling him a bum!!
he can even be fast handed and fast footed when he is focused enough and most of all he has some power.
imo out of the other three champions there is only brewster who he could beat but even that would be a close points verdict.
john ruiz would frustrate the hell out of danny with his holding and danny would get disqualified for punching on the break or below the belt.
chris byrd would just be too slick for danny and would knick it with his jab and move.
that is my honest opinion and i have been a danny fan for years.
Most english fighter like danny williams are bums. Plain and simple. The only exception is lewis and he is really canadian.
man dont you know your boxing!!
with statements like that i would'nt bother posting!!!
- Evil - 01-06-2005, 04:06 PM Most english fighter like danny williams are bums. Plain and simple. The only exception is lewis and he is really canadian.
Idiot alert!!
!! Anorak 01-06-2005, 05:24 PM Nice one, One Punch Mickey, some wise words mate.
Also glad to see people jumping on the idiot. It's a shame how things have turned out - Kali Meehan seems to get more props than Danny these days!
tri4ben2 01-07-2005, 08:51 AM Danny Williams will get at least one more televised fight in the US. He is neither a God for knocking out Mike Tyson nor a bum for getting killed by VK.
He is going to be around for a few years as a litmus test for up and coming heavyweights, like TOS.
!! Anorak 01-08-2005, 06:37 PM TOS?
I hope Danny gets another chance to fight at that level, just to show whether or not he is capable of mixing in with that company. (Before a Rahman fan joins in - it only took Danny 32 seconds to do a job against Meehan)
Beating a shot Tyson and getting beat by a clearly-better-than-his-peers-and-improving-all-the-time Klitschko fails to answer either question.
paulmmv 01-08-2005, 08:49 PM dannys proformance against vitali was terrible he dident even swing his arms at least in the tyson fight he throw punches
gunton 01-08-2005, 11:11 PM Lets not delve too deep into quality of the current british heavyweights. Lets face it, now lewis is gone there is absolutely no decent guys out there, let alone any decent fighters other than vitali. Beating tyson only cemented the fact that tyson was a washed up fighter looking for a payday to clear his debts. Was it a shock that williams beat tyson....not really despite what the papers might have said.
