Linkin Park donates $100,000 to tsunami relief

NEW YORK - With memories of a successful summer tour in Southeast Asia still fresh in their minds, the members of Linkin Park are spearheading an effort to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami that have devastated the region.

The Los Angeles-based rock act has set up an organization called Music for Relief (http://www.musicforrelief.org) with an initial donation of $100,000. It will directly support American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org) programs.

"We are fortunate to be in a position to help, but this needs to be a broader effort," said guitarist Brad Delson.

"If one of our fans can donate $10, then that's going to help ... We are also going to appeal to our musical peers by asking them to donate as well."

Over the summer, Linkin Park played sold-out stadium shows in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, which all suffered tsunami fatalities. :) :) :)

Wild cheers for Linkin Park!! Other celebrities, specially those in the millionaire's club, should follow suit pronto!

Very cool idea...and I love the band, theyre one of my fav's today, but honestly I dont see why they didnt donate atleast a half a million. With the sales off their old CD (Hybrid Theory??) that went platinum 7 freakin times, I'm sure they could afford it! It's a good gesture, and hopefully will only lead to others doing the same, I just think considering the vast amount of damage done they could have given more. Still love 'em though...and it is one hell of a nice thing to do! ;)

LOL, very generous. I would say it is a wise public relations move as it garners them alot of free publicity which obviously helps their image and ultimately will sell them more albums and tickets. I am not cynical that is just the way it is. :(

Here comes Super "Dub-ya" and the administration playing hero again. I here they increased the original amount by ten fold...so that's $350,000,000.

How does everyone feel about the decision?

I think that's great. Anything helps. How many people died? I don't think any amount of money will replace the damage done completely, but if it helps..

Is that the point? I'd say that all the people it helps could care less why they did it ;)

For every 100 dollars that is being donated the amount of aid, going to Asia, increases exponentially. Meaning because humanitarian supplies, like water, medicine and food, were previously purchased and are sitting in warehouses in different countries around the world when one donates money they are financing transportation of the aid to the affected people. So for every 100 dollars donated 3000 dollars worth of aid is being distributed.

It's really heart-warming to see that we don't have short supply of generous samaritans everywhere who come in droves to share whatever they can to help the victims. :)

But at the same time, it's heart-wrenching to know that relief agencies are having difficulty getting the aids and donations to the affected areas because of lack of transportation, personnel or passable roads. In some areas, goods have to be dropped from helicopters! :(

I agree..its a damn shame that some of the food, etc. sit's in warehouses and rots before its distributed :( Things like that should never happen; it's hard enough to get the food and donations together, but for them to sit and spoil before they can be used is a shame

I thought Bill Gates would be tight ass with his money, but he gives millions away all the time!! I dont suppose a a couple of hundred million is much for a guy that rich!

Send a couple my way Mr Gates!

If Sandra Bullock give a million thats cool, but i wouldnt be supprised if it was an investment!!

$1mil donation = more publicity = more fame = more money.

If anyone wants to donate me a 1,000,000 points it could be a good investment, i may give you some very good karma. ;)

I think its becoming more about "image" than helping out. The real reason dont mean **** though; but it seems like some of them just cant stand for others to think they wont help, etc.
Whatever it takes, huh
