Tsk, I wish they could've shown the Ward fight on HBO since they had a lot of time to spare. I want to see that knockdown to find out if Ward's chin is suspect, I hope not.
Truth 11-19-2005, 11:35 PM Damn, thats not a good sign...
ChrististheAnswer2 11-19-2005, 11:35 PM I just got back from the fight and yes it is Ward's chin, he got rocked by an uppercut and almost didn't get up, he was hurt real bad.
TuPrincipe 11-19-2005, 11:37 PM I had a feeling this guy wouldn't be for real.
He left himself open too much and I knew somewhere down the road He would pay for it. Hopefully, He learns from this and he doesn't fight as reckless which it seems He did.

He wasn't being reckless, he won the first 3 rounds going away its just that he left himself open for the left hook and the ppercut during an exchange an he got nailed. Trust me Ward was hurt, the only thing that save him was that there wasn't that much time left in the round. Although he showed heart, I'm now beginning to question his chin.
Manny_P 11-19-2005, 11:42 PM do not get sold yet on a fighta who hasn't touched a 2 digit Ws on his stats nah mean?

Credit to him for getting up but like I said bad sign early... :(
i neve thought he was for real

TuPrincipe 11-19-2005, 11:50 PM There's always exceptions to the rule Tyrant316.
I'm not completely sold on Ward, and neither is his promotional team.
Truth 11-19-2005, 11:53 PM Like I said terrible sign, but credit to Ward he still won.
IwatchBoxing 11-20-2005, 12:12 AM Wards been hurt, confused in past fights also, I think he will pull out tho, and be a decent condenter. Just like Cotto, I havent given up hope on him, lots of all time boxers have had a rough start in proffessional boxing.

What happened to hopkins isn't the same as what's happening to ward. This is teh second time in his young career that he has almost been knocked out in the ealry rounds against an opponent he should easily beat. Ward has good offense but suspect defense and can't take a punch. I highly doubt if he will ever be the boxing superstar that he is slated to be...

DANGER13 11-20-2005, 12:28 AM andre is a good fighter. when hes older he'll be good. he'll lose some fights tho if he's got a suspect chin
nelsoncm 11-20-2005, 12:56 AM Exactly.
If he doesn't learn quickly, he's gonna ba ko'd sooner than expected. I see the same with Brock. Nothing extraordinary about him. I hope he doesn't become another Owen Beck.

He's got the amateur background, but if He doesn't have a chin He won't last.
The Fix 11-20-2005, 04:20 AM roy jones was dropped by lou de valle.....
this means nothing, if anything it helps because he has tasted the canvas now. he wont want that again and it will teach him not to put himself into similar positions.

Flash Knockdowns are nothing. But he's been visibly hurt twice this early in his career.

i seen the first time but how was he this time?
Tha Greatest 11-20-2005, 04:32 AM wow...
ward has been knocked down, i guess his career is over now..
Isn't it funny everytime a prospect who was higherly regarded before gets knocked down, everyone jumps on his back and says "Oh his ****, I knew it before anyway."
Its better he faces some adversity early in his career than say when he is fighing for a title AKA Kermit Cintron style.
Rapid_Speed 11-20-2005, 09:10 AM I haven't seen the fight...but there haven't been that many people slating him to be the next Roy Jones or whatever. He's still young, he's still learning. From what I've seen, he's a great talent but it looks like his chin is not all that great.
Still, I like the way he carries out his business, highly professional and seems mature for his age. It's too early to say really but I'm hoping he can make it to that championship level.
ICEMAN JOHN SCULLY 11-20-2005, 09:18 AM I said from DAY ONE that Andre (and his long time trainer) was overhyping HIMSELF (Claiming he would go down as the greatest fighter who ever lived. The amaterurs, especially NOW with the computer scoring, mean NOTHING in predicting pro success. They are matching Andre up very carefully and not like a guy who they think is a future superstar. He started doing the same old played out trash talking before a couple of his recent fights and that, to me, is a turn off. The last thing we need is another kid who talks trash, especially one who at the same time tries to present himself as a religious type of person. He ran his mouth off before fights against limited opposition and now he is learning early on in his pro career that fans in the pro game arent as sympathetic as they are when you are an amateur kid. You got dropped twice and now you are going to hear more insults and berating from fans than you did in your whole amateur career combined. Welcome to the pros, Andre!!

i for one am not impressed with andre ward.
ELPacman 11-20-2005, 02:31 PM Ward got hurt badly in like his 3rd or 4th fight I remember. I believe it was showcased on Best Damn Sports Show. Luckily the guy he was fighting was a total moron and didn't know how to finish him cause Ward was in another world.

being a pro doesnt give anyone an excuse to just say what they want unchecked.
dafish298 11-21-2005, 10:23 AM give the guy a break. A win is a win. He is still undefeated, and why he may have a suspect chin..it is not known for sure until he gets KO'd. He had alot of heart to get up from the knockdown and go on to win the fight.

Too me its funny when these networks and promoters try to shove some guy down our throats who turns out to be garbage and he gets exposed. Maybe this will allow some other fighters with more proffesional ability to step into the limelight (or maybe Ward will have to actually earn his place now in the pros). I was at this fight and I believed Ward lost rounds 4, 5, and 6. When you add the Knockdown, he loses on my card. I wasnt the only one who thought so, the crowd booed very loud at the decision. The score of 59-56 was pure unadulturated bull**** and it was obvious that the guy with the cash behind him got the nod (not saying he def. lost, but that score was simply outrageous. Ward was not the same after the Knockdown by any streatch).

FROM ICE: Listen Junior. I said Lacy doesn't have power? I said he wasnt a Hearns, Jackson, Shavers puncher and that is FACT. I "talk like I know everything??" LOL Look little guy, I think 130 pro and amateur fights and a world title chance gives me a certain freedom to express some insight, aiight ?? I have no biased talk..I say what it is and if it is something that goes against what YOU and your experience think thats just the way it is. Let metell you something u dont know....Boxing is a business and Andre has been matched CAREFULLY and now with the way his fights have gone they will match him EVEN MORE CAREFULLY. There are specific rasons for this and if u had educated eyes you would see it and recognize it. Andre never trash talked anybody? I remember before the fight he got wobbled badly in he trash talked Kenny Kost. DEFINITELY he did. I was surprised at him at the time.
RAESAAD 11-21-2005, 02:00 PM Lacy hits harder than Hearns ever did....IMO just from what I have seen but I have not been hit by either so can't say for sure and know your experience but just disagree on you on that.
ICEMAN JOHN SCULLY 11-21-2005, 02:18 PM RAESAAD... Being 100 percent real I dont think ANYBODY in boxing would agree with you on that. Hearns VICIOUSLY knocked guys UNCONCIOUS, good fighters like Cuevas, Duran and Shuler. Lacy hasn't ever done that to a top tier opponent. Tommy hit gus with ONE shot and they were OUT. Give respect to what Hearns did...there is NO comparison between his power and Jeff Lacy's

OK well I will take you word on that I was basing it on the few fights like a handful of Hearns fights when he was at a lower weight......I mean Hearns/Lacy at 175 who would be the harder hitter sure Hearns made 147 and 154 guys look foolish with that power but never did higher than 160. I also think Lacy has many more years left to prove to be an even better KO puncher so I guess time will tell but I still stand by I doubt Hearns hits harder at 168 or 175.
ICEMAN JOHN SCULLY 11-21-2005, 02:37 PM Yeah but thats like saying that Barrera doesnt hit harder than Jermain Taylor, you know? And for the record... Tommy Hearns won the 175 pound title by stopping a tough tough guy in Dennis Andries. He also dropped Sugar Ray twice at 168. The measure of a mans punch is based solely on the result it has on what it hits... Hearns did to men what Lacy doesn't. HE CRUSHED THEM. Lacy is a good puncher, YES, but not a 1 punch KILLER

OK fair enough I can live with that....nice chattin with ya.
TuPrincipe 11-21-2005, 04:45 PM You must be kidding raesaad.
Jeff Lacy has good power, but calling it Hearns-like is just ludicrious.
That is a HUGE overstatement to say the least.
he got knocked down. what the hell's the big deal here?
TuPrincipe 11-21-2005, 04:58 PM It's a huge deal.
Your projected to be the "next best thing" and during your first 7 fights, you've been knocked down twice.
That's very questionable.

lacy is one powerful dude, attempting to compare him to a power puncher of the past is not a huge overstatement. granted, he doesnt have hearns like power, but you dont need to pour it on
how many fighters can ya name that haven't been knocked down in thier career?
but i do see you're point. also, didn't know he was knocked down twice. who else knocked him down?

He has very good power, but he knocks guys out by wearing them down. Hearns could KO you with ONE punch.
i also do think judging a fighter with less than 20 fights is a bit too early.

he didnt wear down pemberton, he ktfo'd him
Tarver is my dad 11-21-2005, 05:10 PM i also do think judging a fighter with less than 20 fights is a bit too early.
I agree, its a little too early to judge how good of a fighter Ward will become. However, he is labeled as "the next big thing," and being knocked down twice in ur first seven fights by questionable opponents gives suspicion on his label.
TuPrincipe 11-21-2005, 05:16 PM I think it's fair to judge him now.
He's an olympic gold medallist and with that territory comes BIG expectations.
yup, and you may have to consider how he was knocked down. being caught off balance while being hit is simply a mistake, while being pummled down is much worse. and being caught off gaurd may be simply a mistake, but on the other side, it could show a defect in the fighter's defence.
TuPrincipe 11-21-2005, 05:19 PM He wasn't fighting reckless in his latest knockdown (from what I heard), he just got caught with a good punch which shows flaws.
TuPrincipe 11-21-2005, 05:20 PM Both times, he was almost KO'ed and had to eek out a non-impressive win. Also, both times the rounds were almost done, so he got lucky in that sense.
still not fair to judge him yet imo. he needs time to develope. amatuer boxing is a bit defferent than pro boxing.

Spinks is still a welterweight or He CAN be if he wants to have a shot at beating the "man" right now.
I'm thinking the winner of Mosley/Vargas Floyd will decide to fight because
A)Low risk (Shot fighters)
B)Big names, so big money.

I thought I read somewhere that Spinks was moving up, because he can't make 147lbs. any more.
TuPrincipe 11-21-2005, 05:29 PM Even so.
You just don't know with Floyd. I'm thinking either Mosley or Spinks, based on the fact that I think Mosley will most likely win.
