Dana said he should be ready to fight by this summer...

really, with a torn ligament?

thats crazy. no way he'll be 100% by this summer. it takes MINIMUM 8 months to be fully normal after a torn ligament in the knee.

I doubt he gets back that soon but if he does, I expect he'll be fighting a little different or he won't be able to train hard enough so his cardio won't be that great.

"GSP's rehab could not be going better," said White. "I kid you not, he texts me every day. Tonight during the fight, he was texting me pictures of him kicking, of him doing things.

"He says, 'I am praying every night when I go to bed that Nick Diaz wins this fight.' I have never seen Georges St. Pierre ... hate somebody. He hates Nick Diaz. I've never seen him hate somebody. I've never seen him so motivated to fight somebody, and to beat somebody as he is Nick Diaz.

"He's ahead of schedule now, being the freak of nature that he is, and the hard worker and dedicated athlete that he is, I think he's going to be back sooner than doctors anticipated."

Ariel Helwani sought clarification. "So perhaps the summer time?"

"Yes" said White.

Boxing isn't JUST about your hands. Boxing is about movement, defense, ring (or in this case, Octagon) control, footwork, as well as offense with hands. Diaz has little defense and is a pressure fighter with good hands.

well he outboxed and battered the guy with the best boxing in MMA according to ****aroach and of course Nick isn't a mayweather when it comes to boxing he is a MMA FIGHTER

and if not nick then who is the best boxer?

"Best boxer" in this context refers to the guy with the best technical boxing skills and abilities. It doesn't mean the guy that would defeat the other guy (hence the 'Diaz has good hands'). Roach is talking as a boxing trainer/boxing purist about the technical aspects of boxing. It is no different than talking about the difference of a 'boxer' and a 'brawler' within the sport of boxing. Take the Ricardo Mayorga-Vernon Forest fights, which were classic boxer vs brawler encounters. Vernon Forest was clearly a much better technical boxer, by about a mile, but Mayorga beat him twice, once by KO and once by decision. This is because there are various other aspects of a fight than just who is technically superior.

Thats what I been tryin to tell people for awhile now. I wonder when someone will exploit the fact that the diaz throw pitty pat arm punches. They just maximize their reach and only throw with power once they have their opponent off balance.

Diaz is a complete striker. He uses his hands for offense and his face for his defense. :D

bj penn is shot to ****

that was his last fight. and diaz is a hell of a lot bigger than he is.

in his day he had better timing than diaz, and that's what freddie is talking about when he says boxer

i agree with roach. diaz doesnt "box," he's not a ring general. he doesnt use the "octogon"

you're going to have a hard time using boxing footwork to any real degree without shoes on.

diaz throws lots of punches at the right distance moving straight forward. he puts combinations together very well

his gift is his conditioning and his durability
he's got the best gas tank in MMA. he's a legitimate five round fighter who knows how to relax with his punches and set a huge pace because he's not selling himself out

in that sense he is like a boxer
but he doesnt really box

Damn if the Diaz brothers had better foot movement, you know lateral movements and so on, those fools would be unbeatable. I understand what Roach is saying, Nick has good hands , meaning that he knows how to throw punches and combinations with great accuracy but is not a full boxer because he lacks foot movement and lateral movements, He basically just goes straight forward like a Margarito or Katsidis..

Diaz is a better boxer than Penn imo, one of the best in the UFC.

I can see how this might be possible in MMA actually cuz I was looking at this from my first hand experience point of view. I've torn a couple of ligaments in my right knee, and it took me about 9-10 months to get back to 100% to play soccer and hockey. But with mma, there isn't as much agility and running around so maybe for that limited movement he might be ok. And if he does other kind of cardio like the stationery bike and stuff like that, he MIGHT be able to come back in the summer.

Also he might have a really good surgeon that used some new inovative method for quicker recovery which is possible cuz since I had my surgery 7 years ago I know that ligament surgery has improved.

Why do people act like "arm punches" are bad or rookie-esque? Arm punches are not telegraphed and when added in accumulation are more effective in the long run compared to loading up on power shots. Arm punches are veteran moves who even Bernard Hopkins still employs that kind of offense for the reason of not telegraphing

Not saying its bad. Just saying its blatantly obvious what theyre gameplan is yet everyone in there with them back up which is the absolute worst thing they can do. Arm punches have no real power and leave you open so their opponents should walk right through the pitty pats and force them to fight off their back foot.

The Diaz bros are pressure fighters....They do have power just not one shot put you in a coma power. Nick Diaz pressures fighters with his output and mixing it up, sure he doesn't have power but he has enough to execute being a pressure fighter. Diaz's long arms help them a lot too.
