View Full Version : holyfield: toughest fighter ever??
their have been many guys who had good chins in boxing...but not many who just had a disregard and didnt give a **** if they got hit or not...hagler and holyfield are the man 2 that come to my mind..i think holyfield is the toughest fighter of all time...and dont say marciano because he didnt get hit by the big hiters that holyfield has gotten hit by
oldgringo 12-30-2004, 10:52 PM Hagler was never visibly hurt for as long as I can remember and took absolute bombs from some of the all time p4p hardest punchers in the sport. No one is/was tougher than Hagler. I cannot remember seeing anyone eat punishment the way he did...and then win and have such a great career. I recall Holy being hurt on numerous occasions but even so he's still very high on the list.
panza thang 12-30-2004, 10:56 PM in light of holy****ed still insisting on persuing his career the name of this thread should have been;
holy****ed; dumbest bonehead ever???????? :D
how bout it..?
Marciano is the hsrdest nail ever in the sport.
Not that Holyfeld aint tough.
spaghettibender 12-30-2004, 11:14 PM He's tough, but not the toughest by a longshot.
I always thought that Lamotta was one of the toughest all time fighters, 6 brutal wars with Robinson. Easily in the top 5 greatest chins of all time.
panza thang 12-30-2004, 11:15 PM hey, leffy..
nice avatar picture you got there.. now where, at what website did you get lucky and find that..? monty python is it?
Boxerdog 12-30-2004, 11:38 PM How the hell can you start a "toughest fighters" thread and say "don't say Marciano"?
gwenstefani 12-30-2004, 11:59 PM i would say holyfield,,but marciano had smaller gloves and you get lots more broken ribs in those days,,plus not all the luxuries of nowadays,,fighters were tougher,,some would chew on rocks to make their jaw tougher
Tex Cobb= more guts than sense.
I agree with oldgringo Hagler must be the toughest.
(and look to the left to see how you train it ;) )
I think Zivic was the roughest, toughest SOB that ever stepped in the ring.
tikal 12-31-2004, 08:04 AM My vote goes to Marcianno. I cant think of another man on this planet that could have fought for a couple rounds after their nose split in half.
Ali also deserves being mentioned for taking Foremans best shots and fighting Norton with a broken jaw.
brownhw 12-31-2004, 08:26 AM Of all the fighters I've had the pleasure to see in my life, I would put Real Deal at the top of my list of toughtest fighters. He has a heart that may be too big for even himself and remembering all the times he's showed his will, determination and courage in the ring makes me feel good inside. Bowe, Qwai, Bowe, Tyson, Lewis I & II, Rahman, the list goes on. No boxer that I have seen hasw fought with the edge that Evander has, so yes he is the toughtest fighter in my book.
ispayder 12-31-2004, 08:46 AM I definitely agree with El Duderino, It must be Hagler. Taking all the best shots from his opponent and still winning. Hagler is really one tough guy.
hey, leffy..

Hey panza, joa det er pyton, din gamle faktisk.
dempseyfire 12-31-2004, 10:41 AM How can one say one fighter is the 'toughest ever' . . .seems like a pretty ridiculous claim. Boxing requires toughness in itself, and through history there have been tons of just inhumanely tough and rugged fighters. Holyfield is one of many . . .

See, this **** is so unnecessary and one of the reasons youre so highly regarded here (when youre not banned anyway). The thread is to give the man his due respect; not insult him for refusing to retire. That crap was on a different thread entirely! Sometimes the saying "if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all" really applies; this was one of those times.
Holyfield did have an amazing chin, but I think his heart and determination played a big part of it too! He was usually the smaller of the two when it came to heavy wt. fights, and he was always so damn tough and took blow after blow and remained on his feet. Undying love and respect for the man, the fighter, the warrior! ;)
My vote goes to Marcianno. I cant think of another man on this planet that could have fought for a couple rounds after their nose split in half.
I have been trying to find that picture showing the damage to Rocky's nose. How in the world cam anyone look at that and imagine that it is a shot of the WINNER?!
One tough sonofa*****!
Sidestep_1 01-01-2005, 06:25 PM Holyfield is a very tough guy. Other tough fighters are Hagler, Marciano, Mayorga and, maybe the toughest of, Ali ;) !
drag0n_ 01-01-2005, 06:27 PM Holyfield definitely in the "elite tough guys" group with Ali,Hagler,Marciano,Tyson etc
Holyfield definitely in the "elite tough guys" group with Ali,Hagler,Marciano,Tyson etc
What how can you mention Tyson??? He cant take being given a beating.
Floydmayweather 01-03-2005, 12:50 AM I think Hagler was the toughest he got hit and it didnt even seem to phase him a bit.
Vikingblood 01-05-2005, 04:21 PM I'd have to say Chuvalo or Cobb take this distinction over Holy. Although Holy was tough son of a gun in his day.
Mr. Ryan 01-05-2005, 04:27 PM Marvin Hagler was the toughest fighter ever. When Holyfield would say he wasn't hurt, people questioned that. Nobody questioned whether Hagler was ever hurt in a fight. Holyfield was tough, but Hagler was superhuman.
warped 01-05-2005, 06:01 PM Tyson has taken some hard shots but he has nowhere near the noggin that Holyfield has. Holyfield never stops throwing leather either.
Tough SOB
Mr. Ryan 01-05-2005, 06:04 PM Holyfield never stops throwing leather either.
Except against Larry Donald.
It's hard to declare just one fighter as the toughest there ever was. There's simply no concrete basis to judge a fighter's toughness. However, i do believe Joe Grim should be mentioned.
Most of the fighters that were already mentioned (Hagler, Holyfield, LaMotta, Marciano), they were all tough as nails and never stopped coming. However, unlike Grim, they had skill or power. Grim pretty much had nothing. He was a mediocre fighter who only won 3 of his 101 bouts. Still, he was possibly the toughest son of a ***** to ever grace the earth.
As a below average middleweight, he fought the likes of Philadelphia Jack O'Brien, Bob Fitzsimmons, Joe Gans, Jack Blackburn, Jack Johnson, Johnny Kilbane, and Battling Levinksy. Sure, he never beat any of them, but he was never stopped by these far superior and often much larger opponents. Imagine being a defenseless, skill-less, and powerless middleweight against monsters like Fitzsimmons, O'Briend and Johnson. Grim was one tough dude.
TheGreat1 01-05-2005, 07:05 PM How the hell can you start a "toughest fighters" thread and say "don't say Marciano"?
he does refer to Marciano in the opening thread.
TheGreat1 01-05-2005, 07:08 PM both Hagler and Holyfield where tough. but Hagler was not being hit by big HW's such as Bowe, tyson, LL either. Holy is in my opion the toughest ever. behind him i would have to go with Hagler,JCC, and Rocky, but as it was said before, Rocky wasn't fighting big hitters like Holyfield.
Mr. Ryan 01-05-2005, 07:10 PM both Hagler and Holyfield where tough. but Hagler was not being hit by big HW's such as Bowe, tyson, LL either. Hagler, Marciano, and Holyfield never quit. Chavez, on the other hand...
TheGreat1 01-05-2005, 07:14 PM Hagler, Marciano, and Holyfield never quit. Chavez, on the other hand...
they also never won 90 fights in a row.
Mr. Ryan 01-05-2005, 07:28 PM they also never won 90 fights in a row.
They also fought better quality of opposition.
Holyfield certainly ranks as one of the toughest boxers ever, along with Hagler, Mike McCallum and George Foreman to name a few
How the hell can you start a "toughest fighters" thread and say "don't say Marciano"?
marciano was getting hit by 185 pound men in the infant years of boxing...holyfield has gotten by men like foreman lewis bowe tyson..although hurt...he still fought back
Boxerdog 01-05-2005, 10:55 PM Your title says it more eloquently than I ever could dude!
pinkpanther 01-06-2005, 09:58 AM Not in the same league as Marvin Hagler
