View Full Version : If Mayweather loses tonight, will it be an anti-climax?

I was thinking today that if Mayweather did finally lose then it would likely be at the hands of one of the bigger names in a division, like Judah if they get that one, Winky with his "jab all night" style or Hatton if he dropped back down and they had a superfight.

Imagine tonight if Mayweather got caught, or dropped a decision to a fighter no one's regarding (on this board, or on betting sites) as a major threat, in a fight we're curious about but not over ecstatic?

It'd be like a loss dropping under the radar, wouldn't it? (Kind of like the stories about hardly any commentary teams bothering to travel to Japan for Tyson's mandatory bout with Buster Douglas).

I know it's unlikely to happen, but it IS possible. If Mitchell pulled it off tonight, it would also put a downer on future fights. I'm sure we'd all still watch Mayweather-Hatton, but it wouldn't have the same edge, would it?

Is this even coherent? It's 2am over here, and I'm having to stay up to watch this thing....

A Mitchell win wouldn't be too good for boxing. He is not that entertaining nor has he got the appeal of the superstars. It would be a huge shock and Mitchell could probably get a rematch or a world title fight. However, i don't think this will happen. if Mitchell can go the distance i'd be impressed!

Yeah, I don't think it will either. But anything can happen in boxing, I guess...

It is, yeah. But I meant Hatton-Mayweather, which is rumoured to be early next year, wouldn't have the same draw. It would no longer be two undefeated welters going at it, it would be one undefeated welter vs. a welter who moved up, got beat, and came back to his level.

It's all academic anyway... I got it starting in about 15m and we'll see Mayweather beat him.
